I was at Brighton away a few weeks before Nigel got sacked . We won 2-1 and played some scintillating football. It was clear to us that the manager had brought in some very good players . Later , other managers benefited from his hard work . They were given extra funds that made the difference.

McLaren and Clough won the same amount of promotions too😎. I’d a lot of time for both but in terms of success, we didn’t achieve anything by sacking Clough. Just better to watch at times under SM but as you say, Clough’s teams had their moments too. And as for Rush, well…..why did we bother with him?

Nigel had a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We'd get in a promising position and he'd do something that ended any chance of threatening the playoffs. We owe him a debt of gratitude for steering us through the post-Jewell years, but his reluctance to play Eustace to anchor the midfield, or to listen to other opinions, undermined his record. He may have been harshly sacked in some eyes, but he had an amazing degree of leniency from GSE compared to what he'd have got from other club owners.

I agree with that to some extent. It’s just a pity we didn’t achieve promotion as a result of his departure.

Oh I'm sure there's a few around these parts that will expect top 4, however unrealistic that is.

Based on a rough estimate for next season's budget, a top half finish should be the aim, with anything below 18th being an underachievement.

I imagine he dumped us because he'd had enough of the crap that the Club had left him to deal with. So what.

I suspect he was told what the first team budget was and how much of that was taken up by his own wages. It was in the beat interests of all parties to part ways imo.

I'm not madly in love with the idea myself, but I have a notion that's exactly the kind of striker Paul warne will be trying to find.

Not sure that's his ideal.   He's on record as saying he likes pace up top - but he likes pressing players too.   I reckon his ideal would be a Jamie Vardy type - a threat in behind but with an engine too.   I don't deny that a Collins type is more likely what he'll settle for though.

Warne may have a top half budget if we go up, other teams with similar budgets will having a better starting point with ready made and experienced championship teams.

Top half will be a target, but not a failure if we didn't finish there.

He went as soon as he realised his mates weren’t going to be able to buy the club

Best of luck to him in his managerial career but I’d take Paul Warne over him and his crew any day.

The Championship is a very strong atm. I’d take bottom half without a relegation battle.

watching the QPR game last night magnified the job we have to be able to compete in the Championship

QPR did play well on the night and of our current squad i believe only 2 would get in there starting 11 Cash and Adams and possibly Nelson and QPR are bottom 6 side

Massive job to get the right players and although PW has done a good job getting us promoted the nest step is still a big worry IMO

Warne is a L1 specialist and brought in to get us out of L1 , he isn't though a championship specialist so will be a real challenge

I will get right behind the team as always but I still think we have a lot to improve on and that's not going to be easy

Billy Davies was no more than a Championship manager really and that showed in the prem, I hope Paul Warne can change our style a bit and surprise a few but time will tell but for now lets just enjoy the promotion party today as Warne said himself enjoy the good moments in football when they do arrive

have a great day today all Rams fans 👏

They will be calling for him to be sacked if we lose our first two games of next season.

Agree 100%! I'm old enough to remember 1986 and scraping out of the third division v Rotherham.. I would never in my wildest dreams believe that we were going to smash the league above and get a second successive promotion. And so next season I fully expect us to be in with a chance of something similar. Am I bonkers thinking that? Probably!

Well done, Warney! where before we crumbled post-xmas, we've finished stronger than ever and honestly, this is nothing less than your hard work warranted. Huge close season now, with a major overhaul to come, but those are some lovely problems to have. Hopefully, DC can attract a bit of additional cash to fund the war chest. I'm sure he'll be doing his level best.

A massive 'thank you' to you and all the coaching staff from yours truly!
