Ignorant to the standard of the MLS these days but it’s either better than most of us give it credit for or Byrne’s too proud to admit what he’s done was wrong and has had to resort to the MLS.

If only he had a time machine.

He’ll probably go now and be back in January.

With Russell doing so well there you'd have to assume it's bottom end Championship level for the most part.

Not every player is looking for a good standard of football though, maybe he wants to live over there and experience the lifestyle and you also have to think that he might have been offered pretty good money too and would rather that than play for a good championship team.

He's averaged a goal or assist every other game since moving over there (0.52 goals/assists per game to be a bit more precise). He only had a better record than that against 3 clubs in the Championship (played against 39):

  • Bolton - 1.17 (4 goals and 3 assists in 6 games)
  • Watford - 1.00 (3 assists in 3 games)
  • Wolves - 0.86 (3 goals and 3 assists in 7 games)

I think you're being generous by saying "bottom end Championship".

So in MLS, unless signed as a marquee player (very much doubt it) the salary cap means senior players can not earn more than $612k per year, which is under £10k per week. However, the average MLS senior-roster player earns well under half that, in fact about £4k per week.

Guessing Byrne would be over the average but under the top rate.

Might have this wrong, but I thought he was on £12k a week with Derby?

The MLS in fairness has become a decent opportunity for some football league players.

Nathan Byrne might just fancy a new challenge and the environment over there makes it an easy transition.

Liam Ridgewell had a decent spell there while in his prime years.
