Is there nothing Rams fans won't moan about.

A win today so we have 3 pages moaning about a commentator that wasn't actually commentating.

Coming up with new and inventive things to criticise should be considered our specialist subject.

This forum is more like the moan in than RD

Is it nostalgia with Graham? His voice was iconic and I can still hear him in my head commentating but do we remember him so fondly because he was doing it during our last period of sustained success under Smith? I might be wrong I just wondered whether that’s part of the reason people hold such strong memories of him. I wonder if it’d be the same if he was instead just commentating on us scrapping around the 4th division with no ‘WANCHOPEEEE’ moments.

I remember him just as much for his emotion and disgust during the bad times tbh.

I think Ed bounces off he’s doing the commentary with.  I found him very annoying when he was with Ramage as they seemed to be too busy trying to have banter and using phrases they’d obviously heard on Soccer AM.  Put with Eric Steele or Dave Fletcher and he’s more focused on the football and more measured.

Whilst we bash away, mostly anonymously behind the keyboard, just go take a second to see what Josh Vickers is going through right now, Ed, just like us all is a real person.

Regardless of how you feel about him as a person or his commentary style there is absolutely no need for personal stuff towards a fellow Derby fan.

Seriously, come on, have a word with yourselves.

Not sure why so many people seem to dislike the bloke viscerally. Okay, if it were up to me, he wouldn't be doing the commentary for us, as I don't rate him professionally. I thought Chris Coles, despite being new to the job, did a better job yesterday than Dawes usually does. But he's obviously a big derby fan and a normal bloke who does the commentary.

Great post. I'm really pleased to see the hate-filled comments have been removed from this thread. What a nasty, horrible, self-righteous bunch of entitled fans we have amongst us. Fair enough, criticise his work if it makes you feel better, even create a petition to send to Radio Derby if you truly want him gone, but there really is no need to attack the man himself. Whats he done to you? As David says, he's one of us ffs.

Besides if I came into your places of work, sat at the end of your desk and watched you work all day, I'm sure I'd be able to find loads of things you do that I would disagree with.

But I would be respectful enough to keep my opinions to myself as your line of work is your line of work, and I have no skin in the game.

I grew up listening to the great (in my opinion) Graham Richards it took awhile for me to warm to Ross Fletcher and the Colin Bloomfield but I did and consider them excellent commentators.

I have yet and probably never will regard Ed in their class and am not keen on his commentary style but allows me to listen to my team play when I rarely cannot be there.

Would I prefer someone in the previously mentioned class yes but until then he does a fair job.

Agree with this entirely.

I appreciate and admire his love and devotion to our club. He did a very good job during the administration phase. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but everything he’s done whilst in his post has been done with complete sincerity.

If what’s been said about the bbc cut backs is true his family will be trying their best to reorganise and find a path forward which is a situation we’ve all found ourselves in. Chin up Ed, things will work out, I’m sure.

To those of you that made it personal, hang your heads in shame. I hope you don’t have to face the same scrutiny and cruelty should you find yourselves in a similar situation.

The crucial thing is that as a football commenator it doesn't matter whether he's a Rams fan; or whether you feel sorry for him and his missus; or whether you love to listen to his voice; but rather whether he can do a good job of descibing what's going on on the pitch to those folk who aren't there in person. I find that that's the area his commentary severly lacks - he struggles to paint a picture of what he's seeing - mainly due to his obsession with the official's performance and the distraction of him seeing a train or a pigeon. Tell me where the ball is, who's got it, which direction they're going in and where they try to pass it and I can feel as if I'm there watching it with him - but there are large chunks of the game where he forgets those crucial parts of the commentators lot - there have even been times when a goal has been scored and I've not been able to tell whether it's us or the opposition that put the ball in the net - that's poor when his job is to inform the listeners.....

Yes I could turn off as has been suggested (and I have on numerous occassions because it's cheaper than chucking the radio at the wall), but surely when his job is to commentate on the game he's being paid (by the publicly funded BBC) to attend, I shouldn't have to turn to the good (and not so good) folks on this message board to follow my team if I'm not at the game...

Have you heard he worked with Alex Ferguson? 🙄

Who said in 2010 that Eric was the best goalkeeping coach in the world and also employed Eric as United's defensive coach.

In my opinion if you don't like listening to Eric Steele talking about football you simply don't like football and shouldn't bother listening in the first place.
