I thought it was a good move for him, but perhaps he feels he has an opportunity here - I'd consider him a strong favourite if Rooney were to step down. I highly doubt it would be something to do with his ability to bring in his own people - surely something like that is talked about very early and why wouldn't you allow a manager to bring in people he's comfortable with?
