Oh gawd. Rooney in his interview saying he asked the players who wanted to take the penalties. And that after we put our best penalty takers first in the shootout.

If you follow the science you put your best penalty takers last and you never ever ever ask the players at this stage.

Got away with it. Surely we have some sports science people at the club?

Onwards and hopefully upwards.

What? If you follow science as you say your best penalty taker might not take one... just like Ronaldo for Portugal in a shoot out if i remember... the other time were sprinting forward celebrating and he hadn't taken one.... great science lol

Not sure about that. I can see the merit in your best penalty taker going first to get off to a good start rather than risk chasing the penalty shoot out. If your best penalty taker goes last, there is always a risk he wouldn’t even get to take one.

Obviously we're talking fine margins. There are reasons for putting your best first as you say, but statistically it's better not to. The rationale is of course that the pressure builds through the shootout so you need your most reliable taker at the end. And you're not, for instance, left with a 19 year old rookie taking the decisive penalty in the final of the Euros.

Not sure about that.  I can’t remember if it was a Euros or World Cup but Portugal had Ronaldo as last penalty taker in the final.  He never got to take one.  You get one chance.

The 'it will be quiet on here because we won' brigade will be greatly disappointed by the volume of praise coming Derby's way!!

We looked weak defensively but grew into the game and deserved to win. Good mentality.

Ebosele was a menace, Watson has an eye for a pass, Morrison really took control of the game second half. Williams at full back looked steady. Plenty to be pleased with.

Negatives - centre back pairing was really weak and Allsop is not ready for the first team on tonight's showing.

Festy is a bit of an anomaly and it showed tonight. Frightening pace and direct dribbling ability but his technical ability and decision making is awful. Will still be a very good option to have and will scare teams to death because of the former.

I can only assume you're referring to his passing range and end product? Try focusing on a players strengths and nor his weaknesses... his strength is is strength.

Someone in another thread a month ago said he'd get bullied by lower league footballers, we certainly didn't see that tonight.

but if you put your best penalty takers last, you might already be knocked out before they get to take one.
