Collins worked his socks off NML was brilliant, great goals from Mcgoldrick, thought Fozzy was very good baring pen, Cashin excellent as always, best performance as a two by Bird and Houraine, Smith was excellent as a RB filling in, good game over all

Agree with all that. Bristol did try and target Smith and I though he struggled at times, he stood firm and coped very well under the added pressure. I guess the verdict on the pen is - yes it was. My view was pretty clear (except distance wise) they looked hip to hip muscle to muscle and Bristol guy just folded. Sure sure there was “contact” but that looked like it was a “bought” penalty and not foul play. It’s part of the game and I am sure we have done it but it still sticks in the craw.

On Fozzy, he isn’t a spring chicken but he seems quicker than in the last year or so, still has juice in the tank after 90 minutes. What an incredible servant of the club he is

I don’t think we can have any real complaints about the officials today (funny how we feel like that when we win ?). The only odd thing was when he booked Roberts for time wasting. Yes, he’d been taking longer over the throw ins than he should have but, he was finally booked for taking too long when the Rovers threw the ball at him and there was now way he could have caught it to get on with the throw in.

Even with my Derby blinkers I didn’t see us do anything unreasonable or childish .. yes we walked rather than trotted and maybe decided a different player was going to take a throw in but next to what we have seen from other teams on a regular basis I thought we were very proper.

Would be fabulous, if Warne can consistently get Max playing with more intensity

It would, there were times where he looked like “I am a midfield maestro” and thus got caught being a bit slow but he kicked his own backside and started to bite back. It really is what a good manager is all about when selling a style/philosophy and how players respond. Max has got it for sure but needs to bed in another part of his football brain - and after today it’s coming on nicely. Just need a repeat on Tuesday. Who’s going to be it with Hourihan missing ? Tommo or Rooney maybe ?

That was absolutely stupendous. I have to admit looking at Bristol's recent run I was expecting a tough match, maybe even a defeat, but they hardly got a look in! I think that the pace we played at was an important factor, with the main one being the right formation. And playing 4 at the back meant that Mendez-Laing and Dobbin were playing further up the pitch, so they could attack better, and it mean that our midfield boys had mor options when passing the ball. Simples, hey?

I think Tuesday night's hair drying session had its effect - to see Hourihan run half the length of the pitch to cut out a cross was, I think unprecedented at Pride Park! And without the 3 goals, man of the match would have gone to Mendez-Laing. He was awesome! But the rest of the team were up there as well! The penalty aside, the only things Derby players got wrong were things like Bird playing the thrown in ball back to the taker too hard, twice. Don't you just hate Warne-ball? Oh, and the defendding for the two goals conceded. But apart from tht, and the shot which Wildsmith had to save in the second half, Bristol didn't get a look in.

There were a load of dubious decisions by the ref, with the 50 - 50 tackle by Hourihan being harsh, especially with the card given to him, but was still probably one of the better refs this season. Not that there is much competition - the bar is set so low that all he had to do was avoid tripping over it  as he stepped forwards! The penalty was a penalty for sure, although I was expecting at least one more which never came. But how often have we seen a ref book 3 players for time wasting? Especially as we have had to watch about 35 hours of wasted time over the last two and a half seasons going virtually unpunished? Although I cold see why Roberts got carded. He had taken his time at throws several times, including pretending to drop the ball a couple of times. So all the Bristol player did was throw the ball at him hard so that Roberts dropped it for real. He forced the ref to get the card out. Which reminds me - several times we had players in numbers surrounding the ref, one time leading to a booking for a Bristolian! Progress!

The fans were really good and loud, and there was good banter with the visitors, and all in all it was a great day out. This could be a watershed moment - we can kick on from this, especially as we seem to have found a way to get the team playing well.

Looking at Barton's comments after the game, I thought that they were strange. He talked about the importance of not losing the second half and getting a hammering. No wonder we cruised the second half, if that was his half time team talk. After the penalty on the stroke of half time, I was expecting an onslaught at the start of the second half. One goal any time in that second half, would have put us under loads of pressure.

As for time wasting what about near the end the Bristol player took a throw that was given to Derby. Clear time wasting but no card from the ref for the same offense.

Just got home...

So, let's just re-cap on this afternoons game...

WTF just happened?  ?‍♂️

Collins:  Best performance thus far.
DMcG:  Same, but with the added bonus of being absolutely clinical.  BOOM (x 3).
NML:  A Beast.
Fozzie:  Best of the rest.
For once, all eyes were not on the defence, so I concede I couldn't name anyone else for being great or poor.

All Rams goals at my end.
Best 45 mins for what seems like an age... and the second half wasn't too shabby, all things considered.

Just a game-in-hand win away from a PO spot.

Even the ref was the best we've seen this season.  (Not perfect of course, but none of them are!)

Pleasantly mild (Why on earth did I take my coat! ?) And surprisingly dry, considering this morning's washout.

A stunningly beautiful woman waiting for me when I walked in.  Film night, sofa-cuddles,  and a celebratory tipple or two in store for later.

Oh... and an extra hour in bed... not that I'll need a full hour!  ?

What the heck... I'm putting today down as a good 'un!

??

I guess you are going home tomorrow?

I think that's the key. It's not as simple as switching from 3-5-2 to a back 4 - we played the ball forward much quicker than in recent matches, thereby maintaining pressure on the opposition midfield and defence.

I don't share the view that the referee was decent, unless you base his performance on him making more or less the same number of mistakes for each side. Wildsmith fully deserved his yellow card - he needs to learn to waste time in a much less obvious way but the booking of Roberts was farcical - I thought the Rovers man was going to be the recipient.

Roberts intentionally did not catch the ball when thrown to (at) him twice.  Time wasting obviously, but a word may have been enough.

And I think Warne knows that. He said as much in his interviews .. as in, it works, but with what we have we can’t do it every week. What I love about 4 at the back and wingers is you get partnerships between winger and his back man. Never liked a loan striker especially if you are playing nervous across the back stuff. Strikers need foils / support. Unless you have proper runners like Bryson in his pomp, a loan striker is desperation city. 442 or 4411 or 4231.
433 works but specialist types of player is way more important - it’s fragile if you have injuries or lack depth of squad as does 3 at the back. Real wing backs are a rare breed. Lowe and Byrne are the only ones in recent times that had the full set of skills required.

(IMO ?)

I believe that the only loan strikers we have are Osula and Dobbin.  Didzy and Collins are under contract. ?

Worlds going mad ?

My son aged 11 had a key ring with a toy bullet chained to it. The “Hi-vizzed” airport security guard confiscated it. “ How the heck is he going to fire his gun on the plane now? “ I quizzed ?‍♂️ at which the yellow vested chap stared at me aggressively but had no words
