Kayden Jackson - signed on a 2 year deal

A fellow Ram asked the Ipswich fan on another forum about him,  it's pretty decent and not partisan so you get a pretty accurate view of other clubs on there. This is what he said about KJ:

On the pitch he's very quick with good positional sense. Technically, as a player he is probably lower Champ/Upper League One standard if being considered a starter. He can be pretty frustrating at times when he runs into blind alleys and his crossing can be inconsistent. But as a squad player he scored goals and made positive contributions over both promotion seasons. He'll do whatever is asked of him without complaining. He used to play as a centre forward (and for a time was the only one we had left in January when Hirst was injured) but has spent the last two seasons mainly as understudy to Wes Burns on the right wing. Of course, the emergence of Omari Hutchinson kept him that bit further away from the first team over the run-in until Hutchinson was needed in a central role.

Off the pitch he is one of my favourite ever players. Regardless of whether he is playing, just by being there his attitude and presence in the squad is going to improve others. He was one of our longest serving players having been signed by Paul Hurst ahead of our previous relegation. He got bombed out by Paul Lambert and made to train with the U21s and was largely ignored by Paul Cook. He never complained and never said a bad word about anyone. He just put his head down and kept working harder. His redemption under McKenna has been one of my favourite subplots since following the club, in no small part down to how humble he has remained. He could have used his final interviews last season to take a swipe at those who doubted him but he chose not to. He loves the community side and he will be out supporting any charity initiatives the club are involved in, largely unreported. He said he was proud to be part of our double promotion, but he is more proud when he hears other parents tell him he has had a positive impact on their children, as he wants his family to remember who he is as a person rather than what he achieves. It has been great to use him as a role model with my own boys as to why they should never give up.

I'm really chuffed he has managed to get another decent contract and hope it works out well for him. I will certainly keep following his career with interest.

We've just signed a player in Osborn who has never played below the championship , been involved in two promotions to the premier league and is 29.

We are now heavily linked with a player who has just been involved in back to back promotions from league one to premier league.

We are also linked to a striker who was the top goal scorer for his current club last year and who scored 15 goals  for Blackpool to help seal a £2.5 million transfer to Swansea.

When cloughie built our first title winning side the whole was more than the sum of the parts.....but it was a great team.

He did the same at Forest and they won the European cup twice.

It was the team as a whole.

As previously stated .....we blew millions upon millions on bang average tosh for years with supposed top managers and we were useless.

Warne signed Kane Wilson who was great last Season.

Has anyone heard much of him?

Ebou Adams......who had stuttered badly at Cardiff  ....now we all want to take him home to meet our parents.

Nelson.......who was a colossus all year long.

Maybe just maybe there is a well designed  plan in place from the boardroom , recruitment staff and team management that's looking to build a TEAM based not only on talent but also temperament and application who will give all they have to this club.

Players who will do what they are told to do.

Let the manager build his team and see how it goes.

If we're bottom at Christmas then we can get the pitch forks out but all this talk of how wonk we are before he's named his first 11 is frankly tiresome.

A fine post. As last season drew to a close it was very apparent that we had a ‘team’ to support, players who would work for each other, the manager and us the fans, whatever their situation ( ie Max Bird). It looks like we do now have everyone pulling together and will be signing players willing to do just that. Can’t wait for the season to begin.

Very well said. I for one was impressed with the way Warne put a squad with a great spirit together last season, and hope he continues that approach. Positive attitudes in the squad will work wonders and make ordinary players look better!

Playing regularly in a side that got promoted to the Prem isn't really to be sniffed at. He clearly has plenty to offer. Unsurprising to see the snide comments from posters about a player they've probably never seen play mind.

Not just any team. A team managed by Kieran McKenna, who’s probably the hottest managerial prospect in the country. The fact that he played an important role in his team makes me more excited about this.

Absolutely brilliant post. There are so many negative posters on this forum who will criticise new signings before they get anywhere near a Rams shirt. I for one believe Clowes, Warne etc know exactly what they’re doing. It would be so good if people would get behind them and support them. I feel the club is in the best hands it’s been in for many a year and am really looking forward to see what the future brings.

It'll be interesting to see what Jackson's like and whether he's used as a starter or a back-up. If he's pacey and hard-working, as previous posters have suggested, he could be a very useful forward to come off the bench for the final 5-20 minutes. That's how McKenna has used him for the last two seasons. Hasn't scored much, but that's the territory if you're not starting.

It sort of suggests that we can expect a starting #9 in addition to him, will that be Jerry Yates?

A big plus is that he has been fit & available for the last 2 seasons, which is more than can be said for JJ, Washington, Waghorn, and even for the magical, self-healing James Collins.

Three seasons seems like a bit of a risk for a 30-year-old but I guess that's how you get players to sign for you rather than someone else.

Ah, confirmed just as I hit 'submit'!

Two year deal - makes more sense.

  • rynny changed the title to Kayden Jackson - signed on a 2 year deal

Guessing it’s a 2 year deal with an option for a third then. Slightly better deal for a player of his age, but I’m still far from convinced by the signing.

No-one is really, he hasn't played a game yet...😐

He's a player with Championship experience who's just helped Ipswich to back-to-back promotions, and he has an excellent fitness record, plus we didn't pay a transfer fee. His goalscoring record isn't great but we'll just have to wait and see what impact he has.

Someone send a telegram to Paul Warne: Milleniumram isn't convinced.
