Waghorn - sounds like we'll sign him if there's space in the budget later in the window once we've got our other targets in first, or missed out on so many he's the best available.

PW spoke to Waghorns agent, Agent may want XXX we may want to give X+ there could be a meeting in the middle, Offer looks to be on the table, Down to Waghorn, If non starter Waghorn goes with PWs best wishes.

Will he know yet who might be available on loan?

Not interested in loans at the moment it seems. I assume that could change but he made a bit of a thing about pulling out if a loan in January for a striker as it would stretch the budget. Maybe there not affordable. Doesn't like big time Charlie players with diamonds and bling apparently either.  That's probably a lot of strikers ruled out.

Talked about a change in culture - moving away from a bland all over white colour scheme at the training ground, ensure players respect the badge, on time to meetings, not shaking Warne's hand when subbed, mobile phone use, etc...

Players voted for the club captain (may not be a player who plays every week). To be announced on Thursday.

What was wrong about the culture at the club?

We’ve probably had the best bunch of players in terms of honesty and commitment to the cause over the last couple of seasons.

I'm not saying there was owt wrong with the culture last season...but...coming in after 9 games and trying to put a stamp on players you didn't sign could have bit him on the behind, PW has now had 1 year at the club, He's signed his own players, He's putting down a marker...you know like when a dog pisses up a lamp post, This is now PWs squad, Lets hope that lamp post is standing firm come late April 2024 Dogs Reaction GIF

Possibly he thinks they were a bit 'rag tag'? Having been through so much, having young kids and old pro's who almost felt they were doing us a favour by sticking around through all the rubbish (when others left). Plus we had the Lawrence/Keogh stuff, Rooney undermining the manager...just constant uncertainty and changes in management over a long period.

Maybe in his head he wants stability, professionalism, organisation, long term planning not lurching from one disaster to another. He isn't so much bemoaning the players as seeing the need for structure and a stable identity they can adhere to and have pride in.

Training ground was paintwd all white and felt "hospitally", so made a change there. Stopped players walking on the club badge on floors, for 10:30 meetings, some players would turn up at 10:30-ish. £250 fines introduced for when players get subbed and don't shake his hand.using mobile phones when they shouldn't. A few other examples were given but I couldn't type fast enough and already forgotten what he said.

Edit: remembered one more - kit now turned the right way round after use for it to be washed.

Enjoyed that - PW seems like a decent bloke and someone you'd have a great night out with at the pub.  Some won't like his informal chatty nature but it was far better than some media trained stale interview.

On the professional side he sets the standards around the club, seems to know the sort of characters he wants to work with and demands they work hard.  I just hope we can get him the 2 or 3 more players he needs to have a real good go at promotion.
