I like Warne. He is honest as the day is long, says as he sees it etc. I believe he will be a success in the long term once he gets his own players in. But for all those who want him replaced….. we can’t afford the cost of the the payouts required … would blow the business plan out of the the water I believe .

So get used to it … he’s here to stay. You might even want to start supporting the Owner, Manager and Team rather than sniping all the time

Me too. I have to say I like him a lot more than Rooney. The Circus is over now. Funny, but I can’t remember many complaints when we lost 10 away games on the bounce, or when Ryan Allsopp pumped 40 balls in to the corner flag each game. Is Warne thought less of because he wasn’t a famous player?

So what. Football is a sport. Sport is about competing.

So what? Cmon roy i expect better from u

u know its relevant

im Not saying they should be happy but for once they should exercise patience and let the club start to walk unrestricted having just got itself out of critical care having been at deaths door at the start of this season

2 weeks before a competitive ball was going to be kicked we found out we still have a club to support.

We picked up what was left in the transfer market that other clubs passed up on.

this is a free hit of a season. For once can derby county fans give a manager something of a reasonable window of opportunity to fashion a squad before we start calling for him to go.

Half The reason we find  ourselves in this god forsaken position is our constant demand for instant results and performances.

thank god social media wasnt about when brian clough was appointed hey lol

There's no such thing. As has been said about promotion you have to take it while you can and make the best of it. So this season has to be made the best of, it was working (was that real or just luck?!) and now it's not. I feel it's very acceptable to ask why and what the answer to that might lead to.

So basically you are saying that after buying the club the first and most important decision Clowes made - which was appointing a manager - he fudged up.

If that's not a criticism of Clowes then we live on different planets.

It’s a criticism of one decision that Clowes has made. Doesn’t mean that I’m ungrateful for the guy as you seem to insinuate, or don’t believe he can can succeed here.

Hes made many other decisions I agree with - appointing a head of recruitment, the impending arrival of a chairman etc etc.

But the "one decision" as you try and play it down is a pivotal one regarding the managerial responsibility of the club.

Pretty major one decision that it seems you fundamentally think he's fouled up on.

You're basically questioning his judgement as owner which is pretty serious.

I didn’t want LR to go but that doesn’t mean I was against the PW appointment.  It was quite telling that LR was only ever interim manager but reading the interview with DC in the Marketing Derby magazine it was clear he wanted something different.

This will be unpopular but sometimes you have to move slower to move quicker.  It’s always going to be difficult while we can’t pay fees, even loan fees.  PW needs at least 1 summer window.  While we can choose from a better selection of free agents, and we can probably pay a bit more in wages than other L1 clubs, it’s still difficult to get players in their prime, which is what we need.  As we’re getting “free” loans we’re probably not getting the best loans available to L1 teams.  The likes of Dobbin, Springett, etc get criticism but their parent clubs have let them go on loan to L1 for no fee and whilst probably paying a fair chunk of their wages.  Other clubs in this league don’t have these challenges, particularly the first one, and will therefore attract better loans.

The actions of one man have set this club back at least 5 - 10 years.  Prior to him we were a sustainable club, with a good squad, a good management structure, a good scouting network and an academy that was beginning to produce.  This isn’t meant to be an “I’m so glad we have a club” post but effect of administration is a reality and the effects are wide ranging and long lasting.  PW didn’t walk into the club like any other manager at any other club.  All the key roles needed to be filled, a scouting network rebuilt and moral rebuilding.  The academy was completely decimated to extent that the age groups have had to bolstered with loan signings.  We really had next to nothing.  We’ve had too much change at too much cost.  Let’s give PW the time to build the club over a long period of time.

Won't be a popular school of thought, but next season is the season where we need to get promoted. Happy-clapper I may well be, but if we went up this season with the current restrictions in place, I fear we'd be hideously outgunned. Of course, this season is not over yet, not by a long shot, but I'd not be too upset were we to miss out this year, re-group, plug a few gaps and then hit the Championship the following year with no finance-related monkeys on our back; free of soft or hard embargos, free of debt, free of wage cap, free of EFL business plan... These are surely the sunlit uplands for most Derby fans and the more I think of it, the more I feel that this is probably what Mr Clowes has envisaged as the most achievable and arguably the most optimal route forward.

For balance, I made it clear from the outset that I had reservations about PW's credentials and how effective his style would be outside of L1, but the good run of form he and the team produced mostly quelled those fears, that is until we came of the rails. As someone who always wants to see managers given time to build a team (something they've not had at Derby for a decade), he remains just about in the black. That said, the argument that Warne has been found out against more canny managers holds water and our record against the better L1 clubs is frankly appalling. At the outset, us doubters were informed that Warne had more than one style and could adapt to our current roster, but that has not proven to be the case, so doubts linger about both his tactical nous, and the suitability of the type of players he might recruit trying to implement it. Put simply, will he recruit a top L1 team for a campaign in the Championship. Equally, will pump it down the channels to the quick lads be an effective strategy in the Championship? I think we need to finish the season as strongly as we can and take stock. There's some big decisions ahead, whatever the outcome and the fairest and most accurate assessment of Warne will be when he has a deeper squad with a full -pre-season in their legs.

A last thought, would be that those sticking small knives into David Clowes really, really need to STFU. Without him there'd be no Derby County. The same people repeatedly tell other folk we need to 'move on' and forget what happened, but they are simply trying to scrub history so they can whine about anything and everything with impunity. While for me, Warne's 'credit' is under review, Mr Clowes retains a 'AAA' rating. I find the lack of appreciation and loyalty in some quarters really depressing, not to mention a bit distasteful.

I don’t think that suggesting that the chairman got the coaching staff appointments wrong is sticking a knife into him.

I would think everyone is appreciative that he stepped up to buy the club. At some point, if he gets future appointments right he will no doubt be able to move the club on at a healthy profit, if that is what he wants to do.

Last time I checked, the season ended in May so it's a tad premature for a start. Secondly, I'd expect Warne to get a second season where he has a larger squad and a few more players that suit his style. If folk really need to criticise the owner, they might have the respect to actually wait to see how his plans play out rather than diving in at the first opportunity for a moan.

We tried to play football under Rooney.  We were very often toothless and it was frustrating but we tried to play with the ball on the floor and a lot of people think that should be a starting point.

And? It’s a forum, we’re here to debate decisions, be those from the manager or owner.

Clowes will be subject to critique from the fan base as any owner will be. But I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t appreciate him for what’s he’s done.

If the manager gets together a team that plays football in an entertaining way that is successful in the Championship I will be thrilled.

If the manager rebuilds the academy so that it is successful in producing decent players i will be thrilled with as well.

His history suggests that he is unable to do the former and has never done the latter.

No matter, I will still buy ST number 56.

I have never actually liked Rooney - all my friends thought hilarious when he went to derby - but he was the perfect person at the right time when the poo hit the fan and really admired him last season, how he conducted himself and what he did.

Hardly. This is a fans forum. If he headed to Clowes place of work and shouted at him that he’d failed then fair enough but doubting a choice of manager isn’t as cruel as you’re making out.

Clowes would probably be the first to admit that this isn’t his area of expertise. He’s a property and construction man. His judgement on these things is clearly incredible. He’d been a football club owner about 2 months when he appointed Warne…

Judging from what was written, Rooney provided the pulling power and motivated the players (he did both quite well) but it was LR who was behind tactics. If that’s right, then it would support the decision not to appoint LR on a permanent basis.

The chance of promotion this season seems to be slipping away. We know from the last supporters’ meeting that if we get promoted, we are onto a new business plan. Given our turnover, if we do go up it will be well within us to stay up

Some are now saying: maybe another season in div1 will be best for us. Don’t buy that at all. We could be stuck in this league for years if we don’t get it right or if we have a run of bad luck. And we have form on both. The longer we’re down here the more difficult it’ll be to get out, EFL restrictions or not.

Another scenario is we go up, get battered week in week out and get relegated back to league one which could result in us yo-yo-ing between the two.
My view isn’t that another season in this league is “best for us”, just that it isn’t necessarily the worst case scenario some suggest either. There are pros and cons to both situations.

Promotion this season - increased revenue in the championship, potential to retain better players, potential to attract better players. We COULD do fine and stay up at the first attempt, or we COULD struggle to compete with others due to the ongoing restrictions and be relegated.

Miss out on promotion this season - We might lose some of our better players, we’ll potentially still be able to attract decent free transfers with the wages and facilities we can offer, Warne gets chance to build a more balanced team and we COULD go up next season carrying momentum into the championship at which point it’s guaranteed the business plan/restrictions will end. We COULD also miss out and be stuck in league one for longer as you suggest, but again with restrictions lifted we’d then be able to recruit far more competitively to get promoted at the third attempt.

The bit I struggle to reconcile with my own views versus other people’s is the apparent urgency some feel to be promoted and the implied short term thinking that is coming from some areas of the fan base with regards to the management team. What would be so terrible about staying in this league compared to being promoted? I want to watch Derby County play football matches and ideally win more than they lose, if that is in league one, the championship or the premier league it’s essentially the same expectation I’ll always have, just that the surroundings and standard of the opposition might change which could then affect our ability to win those games. I won’t lose the opportunity to support the club if we stay down, anymore than I will if we get promoted, so any scenario will work for me once I’ve dealt with the associated emotions of being promoted or missing out, the summer will happen, players will come and go, the club and our support will remain regardless of league, that’s the great thing for me as we so nearly lost that.
