  1. Being considered in the automatic race is a huge achievement in itself.

We’re too far off the automatics race but I think we’ve shown we’re just as good as the top three that have been running away with it all season.

If Warne can find another gear with the right January signings, we may well still be within touching distance with a handful of games to go but Weds, Ipswich and Plymouth are all very good as well. I can see one of them being catchable but the odds are so against us with three sides being that many points ahead

If we are now a centre forward short how about - on loan a certain Chris Martin on a reduced wage obviously as Bristol city want him out of the place - we know he can’t run but he can play to the strengths of the others we have and remember it’s the third division we are in. He could just make a real difference to help collins and Mc Goldrick

Made it to page 26 before the Chris Martin suggested popped up, if I was still regularly posting it would have been on page 1

Standards are slipping here, very sad to see.

  3. Thought he was a pretty perfect bench option and should have had more opportunities ahead of Collins in the past couple months.

Saw one of the DCFC Twitterati suggest that Warne sent him back rather than him being recalled, not so sure because this seems like a potential headache for the rest of the window with our restrictions.

Some interim accounts will be nice. Talking about 352/4312, Warne’s amusing ramblings, McGoldrick’s finesse and Sibley’s hair gel is all well and good, but it is not a touch on amortisation, EBITDA or discounted cash flow analysis is it?

Haven’t seen anyone send an abusive tweet to Kieran Maguire in months, appalling really

We’ve forgotten what this club is all about

  5. Honestly really enjoyed his presser but you don’t get any league points for interviews

I am very wary of the media love in.

Rowett was maybe the most media savvy manager that we’ve had in my time (that bloke would have sent his son to North Korea if it meant he got a feature on football focus) but was also my least favourite Derby manager by a country mile and an arrogant little fraud

I see Owen Bradley tweeting ‘Paul Warne is the nicest man I’ve ever met ?’ and just remember him saying the same s*** about Paul Clement

Yeah he speaks well and is comfortable in interviews but I just don’t think that makes a successful manager

What I think you can gleam from that is actually informative:

    - sitting with the rest of his staff and being social with the players, to me that sounds very self assured. Doesn’t seem like there’s an ego there, he’s not there to be the alpha male.

    - Was pushed by a reporter for a Premier League quote but avoided the whole ‘get this club back where it belongs’ shtick and seemed very conscious that he may not be the one to do it (if it ever happens). Used the word ‘potentially’ a lot and just seemed very aware that football is football, he could be sacked. Lives in reality.

    - already set up the idea we might not go up this year, to me it sounds like he has a two year plan and has been told by Clowes we need to be promoted out of League One by end of next season. Take into account what Rosenior said about being set a target by Clowes (that he didn’t meet) and that’s a reasonable assumption. AKA it’s a 4 year contract but really it’s 2 years.

    - didn’t really pay homage to ‘how wonderful the fans are’ etc which yet again seems very assured, I don’t think he’s going to be affected by fan opinion/pressure or starting any bounces any time soon

    - spoke about football as entertainment and theatre, a lot of people seemed worried we’re going to get defensive football but that quote indicates differently

Looking forward to seeing how he sets the team up on Saturday.

  6. Style of football doesn’t bother me, particularly if we’re droning on about ‘attractive’ football

It doesn’t matter how it looks and I should be clear that the doesn’t mean defensive, scrappy 1-0’s are what get me out of bed in the morning

What you need to be truly successful and entertain the fans is to score loads of goals

If we do that with a team of lads all over 6’2 playing longball or with a bunch of Tom Carroll’s and Max Bird’s hogging 70% of possession every week, we’ll all bloody love it

A quick look at Rotherham’s league finishes under Warne shows they consistently scored more goals than the teams around them when they were promoted AND when they were relegated.

Big fan of Rosenior but never managing to get one of McGoldrick or Collins consistently starting and scoring is part of why he’s gone.

Don’t give a toss how anyone does it at this point, if Warne gets them scoring no one else will either

  7. Wouldn’t say this decision is madness but comes as a shock. Not sure the performances have warranted him leaving and I really liked Rosenior the man, I wasn’t 100% convinced of him as a manager right now but I’m sure he will be a good one. We’ll never get to know if that could have been with us.

For me, we’ve had the start you would expect of a team that’s talented but recently been thrown together. It also sounded like Rosenior played a key role in bringing a lot of the players in but…

Clowes has had time to figure it all out now and has a better read on the situation than all of us. It’s not reactionary because Rosenior was never given the job and looks like it’s always been the case that Clowes wanted his own man. For that reason, I think it’s probably the right choice.

Whoever it is, there’s a squad sitting there ready to win promotion and I hope they’re ready for the expectations that are undoubtedly about to be massively f****** raised

Such a difficult situation for someone to come into with this clubs history, you’ve seen it before with Derby where a self-imposed ‘promotion or bust’ mentality kicks in. It can tear a season apart if you have a bad run and get so so very toxic.

Not delighted to be back on the hiring and firing carousel but the away form was f****** atrocious, won’t miss that from the Rooney/Rosenior era.

    Onwards and upthefookinramswards

  8. Very disappointed with tonight and a few bad calls from him recently but any calls for Rosnenior’s head are reactionary. That was really embarrassing to watch the Lincoln fans taking the piss but don’t be daft.

And before anyone says anything, it’s none of the ‘oh we barely had a football club a few months ago, why can’t you just be happy?!’

No, it’s because we’re less than ten games into the season with a brand new squad and a first time manager!

Anyone with half a brain knew it was going to be a tough start to the season with a team still gelling and Rosenior still figuring out his best XI

I also want everyone on here overreacting to remember what every bloody fan of Portsmouth, Sunderland, Ipswich etc said to us about coming down the league one; there are games where you get embarrassed in a Lincoln/Plymouth’s cup final and it’s f****** horrible.

A few people have tricked themselves into thinking that wouldn’t happen to us and are detached from the grim reality of League One

Tonight was pretty bad but I don’t think it’s any reason for Rosenior to go. The away form is a long-standing issue but we’ve been unlucky to not win our other away games.

Rosenior was also crucial in assembling this squad, they’ve come to play for him. I really don’t think after a mediocre start we should be getting rid of the manager, regardless of experience.

Couple wins and we’re back in it. Another 10 or so games of not scoring and then you start looking to see if we can do better than Rosenior. But he deserves a bit of faith and patience here, we will start converting soon.

  9. You can see Rosenior is still experimenting with the team but this one is another disappointment

No link between DM’s/CB’s and the attack, meaning we’re constantly pinging it out to the wingers.

I like Sibley and Collins but neither seems capable of taking the ball with their back to goal and holding it up.

There is no playmaker in the final third and then there’s no one battling in midfield, the balance of this line up is well off.

Collins works hard but I struggle to see how he really impacts the game

Some of the best right backs currently started out has midfielders Kyle Walker, Reece James to name two. I think it will be Knighty's position going forward in his career.

Both of those two are quick and very strong.

Knight is nippy and brave but lightweight.

Said it in another thread but Knight obviously is a good League One RB because I think he’d look very good in most positions.

I think he’d elevate us in midfield and would round off the Bird/Hourihane midfield very well.

Might be in the minority but I’d want Knight as our 10 over Sibley, Knight’s an all round player who can press from the front, dribble, pass and consistently get in positions to score. If you played him there in League One I think he’d be very good.

Not against Sibley at all, he’s clearly a very talented player and a pleasure to have in this league…but there’s a reason he’s never nailed down a starting spot while Knight has been borderline undroppable for a couple years.

About James Collins: if he olays on Saturday hiw about a session of “Collins. Collins. Collins. Collins.” It might do him the power of good. Its to the same tune as “Derby. Derby. Derby”!!!

Agree with this a lot, there’s been a few players over the year that would have done much better with just a little more vocal backing from the fans.

The next stage in the evolution of Derby fans having an increasingly positive impact on team performance is doing stuff like this for struggling players.

Such a brilliant atmosphere at PP these days but still could get better.

  12. Keep playing like this and goals will come, if not the floodgates will open

Keep the faith with this talented team and their brand of football, it will get results.

You’d take 1-0 in every game but we will spank someone at some point in the next few weeks.

We need a break at some point though, Fleetwood have played well but had some jammy moments in the first half, the goal is coming.

  13. I think Jason Knight impresses at any position, he's a talented all rounder and if we'd just signed him this summer as an unknown RB, we'd all be agreeing he's pretty decent.

However, suggesting he's better playing at RB is just what the OP said it is: playing devils advocate. It's a fun debate exercise and an interesting post as usual from @brady1993 but I strongly disagree.

Arguably our best player, who has played in midfield his entire professional career, unsurprisingly is best used in midfield.

For me, he's what we're missing in the midfield of Hourihane and Bird, someone with energy and bite who can make runs in behind as well as defend from the front. If he played at 10 or as an 8 he'd get a much better goal return too, his Derby goal tally is actually a bit  disappointing but we've never seen him play consistently in one position. If he's the furthest forward in this midfield, he will get goals.

A lot of people believe in Sibley but I'm a Knight believer. He's got Sibley's aggression without the bookings, the best way I can put it is Sibley is reckless whereas Knight is brave.

Playing Knight at RB to squeeze Sibley (or Smith) into the starting XI doesn't sit right with me, Sibley needs to break into that line up on his own merit. He's had a long time to break into this team and do what Knight has been doing for years; regularly starting games.

RB should be the priority transfer target because Knight's earned the right to start in midfield.

  14. Think it’s natural to have a moan after the game, particularly when the second half tested the weak bladdered derby fans. I certainly had a good old moan coming out of Charlton last week.

Missed Oxford but have been to Charlton/Barnsley games, have to say I’m happy with how things are lining up this season.

You’ve seen flashes of quality from us but it’s early season games, they’re weird. Once we’re in mid season form we’d finish off someone like Charlton with the amount of chances we created and we’d have been very comfortable if Collins had made it 3-0 yesterday.

But we’ve ground out a win yesterday in an early season game that no one will remember. It was tip top.

Glaring weakness in the squad is that, in my opinion, our best player is stuck at RB. The midfield lacks a bit of bite with an engine room of Bird/Hourihane but it obviously boasts two playmakers that are possibly unparalleled in the division.

It’s a funny problem to have and it’s easy to get drawn into the idea we need a Shinnie type in there. For me, once Knight is back in midfield he will add a bit of steel/ball winning ability as well as bringing his quality going forward. That’ll be an incredible midfield and with Sibley/Smith for depth, we won’t come up against any better.

To me it looks like the plan is to play teams off the pitch and there’s going to be some really entertaining games this season, can’t wait.

  15. Black socks…

We did it boys, we finally did it. There are tears in this old fools eyes.

This is for everyone out there who kept up the good fight and stood up for what they knew was right even when the whole world was telling them they were wrong.

Every year the new kit thread would start and every damn year we were in that thread demanding black socks. Well look who’s laughing now.

The tasteful Rams are on the up, enjoy the promotion season everyone ?
