  1. Poor old Frank, don’t blame him for going to Chelsea (should have sorted it our quicker) but looks like he’ll get dumped. Don’t understand resentment towards him, regardless of how he left he gave us one of the better years we’ve had this millennium. I had time that year to go to plenty of games and some of the away days were brilliant. Also, he left us for a Champions League job...not Championship Stoke.

Might be good news for Tomori though, fallen out of favour with Frank despite the majority of fans thinking he’s one of their better CB’s. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back into the picture and get playing time if he gets the sack.

Not sure what Lampard would do next. Is a PL team really giving him a job, would he go back to the championship or is he going to pack it all in?

  2. You can tell he’s played abroad, he’s got the attitude of someone who’s had to prove himself over and over again everywhere he’s been. At 33, he’s seen it all and appears to have really stepped up as a leader. Also, has the audacity of someone who’s played in South America, he’ll meg someone and he’s got the first touch to back it up.

He’s not Martin but they have the same effect on the team. Outlet up top, hold the ball up and get other players involved. He’s got height and athleticism that Martin doesn’t but isn’t quite the same threat on the edge of the box. We’re not cutting teams open much but fortunately CKR has given us the first real threat from crosses we’ve had for a while. Suddenly Buchanan, Forsyth and Byrne are putting in some excellent deliveries because they have a target.

Love him for now and I think he’ll have a role to play in important moments this season. He’s proven how effective a target man is for us so I’d hope we’ll bring Dursun in January and look to ship out Waghorn. He’s only got 6 months left on his contract but there’s a chance he could cover the Dursun fee. Waghorn’s 31 in January while Dursun’s only just turned 29, seems like a no brainer if it’s possible?

Love that for him, duck off the EFL ara t race and go play in an easy league in a beautiful country. No shame in it, he’ll have a great time.

Who was he playing for last season? Luton? Can’t say I’ve been to Melbourne but I’ve been to Luton and I doubt he’ll miss it.

Very easy for me to say at the moment, I know we're only 4 (6 inc cup) games in, but Chris Martin is some player.

He's directly contributed to 5 goals already, 3 assists and 2 goals, a MOTM contender in every game he's played so far.

I can't believe you wouldn't give him a 2 year deal, not that I know if that was the deciding factor or not.

I can't say I know much about the way you play but he has been great for us so far.

Paterson, Wiemann & Martin combing to beat Forest.

Side note, Wiemann has been playing CM for us, who would've thought?

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hope the Emmys won by Watchmen will remind anyone who hasn't seen it to get on it. Think it's in my Top 10 of all time. Thrilling.

Also a show that will benefit from binging, you’re so confused at first that I would have killed to not have to wait a week between episodes.

A banger of a show and THAT episode is worth waiting for.

It's all getting a bit silly now. We looked pretty toothless with Martin in the team.

Are you suggesting it’s Martin’s fault we spent the majority of games passing the ball between Bird and Rooney on the halfway line?

There were lots of issues with the team’s toothlessness and they didn’t all directly correspond to Martin. It’s fair to say Martin offered us no pace up top but we didn’t have pace on the wings either.

Don’t think calling Jourdan silly is fair when you’ve got in a huff for suggesting our top goalscorer last season was an important  player ?

  7. Will be good for the forum/fanbase to get some closure.

Don't think there was much wrong with the Martin hangover after he didn’t sign, to have the best striker we’ve had at the club in the past decade leave so unceremoniously was weird and gut wrenching for a lot of us. To then have the club so clearly leave the door open to him coming back in the statement when the deadline passed has made the past month weird and that glimmer of hope obviously was going to be latched onto by those that wanted him to stay.

If the deal’s announced and it’s a two year deal, it will all but confirm what most of us have thought. He wanted a two year commitment coming off a good season and we weren’t ready to commit to him for that long. I think that’s fair enough, it wasn’t a case of him not being good enough but the fit wasn’t right anymore.

I’d guess that Cocu’s relationship with Martin was good but his relationship with the club wasn’t. When he initially left in 2017 he was still in his prime and the mismanagement at DCFC saw what could have been the best years of his career disappear (health problems didn’t help either). Thrown around like a rag doll for the past 3/4 years, I doubt he was happy about another period of indecisiveness just as you feel his career’s back on track. A one year deal wasn’t going to work.

    Few things of note:

Bristol City- very good landing spot, a sideways move but they’ll be pushing for the top 6 next year just like us. Not surprised a club like that came in for him, didn’t buy for a second that he would end up in league one ffs

No Pace- never did have any when he was arguably the best player in the league! If you’ve got pace in other areas, you can afford a player like Martin up top to not have any. His elite hold up play/skill on the ball will unleash those players and make them better. If we’re getting rid of players who don’t cover ground quickly, we better get rid of Rooney ??‍♂️

And that was it for me, I think he’s well worth a two year deal at this level but we simply don’t have the speed in the squad to accommodate Martin, Rooney and Bird. That midfield pairing is what we’re built around right now for better or worse, we’ll need mobility up top to accommodate for such a static midfield.

There’s a thread about what we want in a striker going round at the moment. What made Martin great in the McClaren sides was that he suited the team perfectly, he made other players better and got the best out of Bryson.

What we need in a striker right now is someone who’s going to get the best out of Louis Sibley.

  8. New F1 documentary series on Netflix is excellent. I’m a big fan of sports documentaries and this is definitely one of the best, captures some really genuine behind the scenes moments.

Not even a massive F1 fan, just a really good watch.

  9. 2049 was pretty good.

I only watched the original for the first time this week. I'd been putting it off for ages because the reputation surrounding it told me that I probably wouldn't like it and that it's a bit of an overhyped ordeal.

I found the original to be outstanding in some areas, the design of the world has clearly been genre defining. It's the perfect escalation of the gritty, lived in sci-fi future of Star Wars/Alien. It's an absolutely stunning film...but it doesn't half f****** know it. I didn't mind all the lingering shots of the city too much but the film is like 30% plot and 70% shots of the far flung future of 2019. Thought the romance sub-plot was weak, not much actually happened and you have to watch a specific version of the film for it to reach its potential. Unfortunately I only had access to the original cut with the bored Harrison Ford narration.

However, Rutger Hauer's really charismatic in it and probably should have been the main character instead of Deckard. Last 20 minutes are really good. The themes in the film are really fascinating and the replicants are a brilliant way to explore them, hence them being the most interesting characters. I'm fairly sure Deckard is the most boring character on purpose though. The replicants are meant to be more human than him.

All that said, 2049 isn't quite the masterpiece some have made it out to be but it is very good and, in my opinion, superior to the original. It takes all the core elements that made Blade Runner a classic and goes in its own direction with them. The visuals of that future and the themes are explored more thoroughly than in the original.

What's great about it is that it's not a soft reboot like Star Wars and Star Trek have had, its a self-contained story that changes the status quo of the Blade Runner universe and ends with a satisfying conclusion.

My only real issue with it, outside of something that would go into spoilers, is that the score is so annoying in places. I felt like my senses were being assaulted. I understand the blaring score with sweeping shots of the dystopian future is sort of the house style but after 2 1/2 hours I could have done without 'BWAAAAM, BWOOOOORM, BWUUUUUUUUUUM' bursting my eardrums when a blokes just walking down a f****** corridor.

8/10- go see it if you're a fan of the original.

  10. Baby Driver: 4/5

Really quite good, maybe not as amazing as some reviews have made it out to be. Think the fact it's an Edgar Wright film means it gets the benefit of the doubt from a lot of people but that's for good reason; he has started made a film that wasn't anything less than above average yet.

Car chases are the best I've very seen, very grounded and technical while still being fun and outrageous. Some of the side characters and conversation are Tarantino level good.

I was pretty late to the game, not sure if there's many more showings of it left.
