  1. I wouldn't get your hopes up that high, we may well have quite a slow start. A lot of players still getting to know each other on and off the pitch, they're going to need time to gel.

If I had to call it right now I'd say we'll win convincingly on the first day of the season in front of a bumper crowd and it's a proper party atmosphere, expectations will sky rocket. We'll then lose away at Charlton with a packed out away end which will be a bit of a reality check. Have mid-table form for the first couple months and then hit our stride later on with PP becoming a fortress.

We'll then finish top six, lose at Wembley and Derby County will officially be back to normal

  2. What possibly might be being overlooked is Rosenior considering one of Sibley or Knight as a winger rather than a midfielder if it's easier to sign quality CM/CDM free agent options (e.g. Dale Stephens)

Both can do a job out there and will probably have more joy in League One trying to take players on.

If you look at our squad, we're stacked with quality midfielders and I can't imagine Hourihane or Bird being left out of many starting line-ups this season. I hope we'll be playing with three in midfield.

  3. We might still attract someone a bit unexpected, like the Hourihane deal, but I would be happy with a few more young additions. Plenty of old heads in the dressing room now, think we could use some energy and pace.

Add some players hungry to prove themselves, perhaps more loans like Roberts, and we'll have a really nice mix.

Forsyth is a must sign, he can still win everything in the air and whip it in to the box. I thought he probably should have been in the team ahead of Buchanan at the end of last season.

    Collins and another U23's striker?

Be a shame in a way if Foz doesn’t finish his career at Derby, but I don’t get this over the top appreciation. He clearly isn’t the future, and we have enough oldies in the back four squad. We haven’t got a great deal of wages to play with either. Get a decent youngster in at left back. Left back is not a position for blocking pathways. I bet we have all played left back in our time. It’s not overly difficult is it.

Emailed this over to Rosenior to pin this post up in the dressing room today.

Who ends up on the score sheet?

The younger generation don’t see it like that. They just see superstars, endless broadcasts and closer interaction with each club’s Youtube channels than anything before.

The younger generation has next-to-no interest in the lower leagues (because the quality in comparison is poor and that ultimately makes the games less entertaining).

The older generation detest the idea of a Super League but it’s going to happen. We’re edging closer and closer and it’s only a matter of time before the younger generation outweighs the older generation and they hold the majority vote.

My generation, born in the 80s, can remember growing up with Euro96 and the likes of Gazza, got the last touch before the money men came in. Not old enough to remember terrace standing but still old enough to remember a more level playing field and top-flight 3pm kick offs.

Those born late 90s and beyond have been exposed to just circus football.

As that late nineties generation, football for me has always been a Sky product.

I’m of the generation that worships the Premiership that the tv money gave us as kids. That 04-11 era of the Prem is so well documented and mythologised with my mates. It’s still got a tight grip whether it’s watching Premier League Years or old clips of games/goals on social media.

I think subconsciously for my generation there’s an idea that the money has made football better but it’s just the tv product that’s better.

If people my age had ever known the relative parity of the 60’s-80’s, I think we’d prefer that but as you say, all we know is the circus.

Being a season ticket holder at a perennial championship club does give you a perspective that friends that support Chelsea/Liverpool etc don’t have. Football is sort of now an eternal hell hole where blood, sweat and tears go into just trying to get a seat at the PL table.

It’s a point that’s been made a million times but…that’s the grand prize for so many clubs is being the team that people from all corners of the world are watching Man City stick four past on a Monday night.

  6. Dealing exclusively with free agents is actually suiting us down to the ground here, there’s lots of players around 28-32 that are looking for a bit of glory.

Sign with the biggest club in league one and potentially get promoted after the clubs just come out of administration/relegation, resulting in you never buying a pint in Derby again.

Players will know what the atmosphere was like last season, we’re such an attractive prospect for any free agent that’s reaching the end of their prime. Likely made their money already, not too bothered about a pay cut to potentially win something in front of a big home crowd.

I think that has to be what Rooney was selling him originally and it’s a great sign for the rest of our window that it’s clearly still an attractive option even without the Wayne factor.

Here’s hoping we have an entertaining team to watch fight at the right end of the table ?

You’ve literally ignored my entire point, but you crack on.

Wildsmith’s gone from being way off the number 1 spot at one of biggest clubs in L1 to currently being in pole position for the number 1 spot at…one of the biggest clubs in L1.

I think you’re missing the point that just because we found out about this today doesn’t mean Wildsmith didn’t know about it from the off.

  8. The opportunity for someone to build their own team, even if it’s on a limited budget, is weirdly exciting given the circumstances and I think we’d do well to give that opportunity to Rosenior.

If Curtis thinks he should get the job, that’s enough for me.

If Hughton, Mowbray, Jody Morris or perennial candidate Steve McClaren got it, that would be fine.

Can’t understand calls for Clough, cannot stomach watching that blokes teams play away games again. Would bring in some good characters but awful tactically.

Think we’ve lost a good one in Rooney but speaking of bad away form, we were terrible last year. Best of luck to him but was shocked he was going to stay anyway.

I can see Lawrence leaving, but I do find in interesting that he hasn’t signed anywhere else yet. Could he have been waiting until the last minute, as you point out the club and the majority of the fans have stood by him, perhaps he’s planning to repay that loyalty ?

Probably not of course, but I’m full of optimism today

With Lawrence, his motivation other than money would have been to get into the Wales side for the WC but the Wales manager has made it abundantly clear he won't be in the squad under any circumstances (fair enough with his GTA antics and he does have a random red card in him)

Hope against hope he likes Rooney, the club and being captain more than playing for Norwich/Burnley. You'd feel comfortable about us at least not going down with his goals in L1.

  10. Hard not to be sceptical after recent events.

Clowes was initially linked with buying the stadium for whoever took over, not taking over the entire club. Am I unreasonable to hope that someone who was never spoken about as having the money to buy the club is going to team up with Ashley/Appleby?

More as a way of selling the stadium to make it lighter on the potential bidders pockets? Not sure if I’m way off here/in denial but this guy doesn’t seem to be rich enough to own the club without backers and if he has backers; who the hell are they?

  11. Have a sinking feeling this is true and we’re back to square one

What I’m hanging onto is that Ed Dawes is extremely dramatic and wears his heart on his sleeve. What seems more likely is his contact at the club is Owen Bradley who obviously can’t come out to say anything these days.

Feels more and more likely the club will cease to exist because of Mel Morris’ ego.

    #Bringbackblacksocks

I’d risk it all to get the black socks back.

There’s two schools of thought when it comes to changing the home kit:

The delusional Navy shorts, Red numbers crowd that gather around in their care home posting nonsense, actively rooting for Derby kits to look awful…

And then there’s the black socks hive. The brave few who know the only way for the clubs fortunes to be turned back around is to have those sleek black socks return. Make Derby kits sexy again.

As far as I’m concerned if you don’t want black socks you’re a heretic.

Most of them are getting on and probably want more money than the average league one player. That's the kind of recruitment that got us here, if you hadn't noticed.

I don’t think anyone’s suggesting we break the bank to bring anyone back but if they’re willing to take the wages on offer here (likely below their market value) to come back to Derby and play for Rooney, that’s a good thing.

Might be wrong but no one’ seems to be asking for us to get Chris Martin/Tom Ince in on 20kpw.
