Spine Tingling Derby moments

What are your spine-tingling derby moments? The moments where a little tear started to come down from your eyes or a shiver went down your spine? For me there are more than a few. But the most recent one must be the atmosphere before kick off at Pride Park against Carlisle. Not sure I've ever heard the ground this loud and after all the club had been through a couple of years ago it felt like a truly cathartic release of passion, energy and noise.  (youtube video start at just before 4 minutes)

Going on the most recent one, the split second where Bird lines up outside the box, you hear “SHOOOT”, then silence, then the net ripple, then the roar of celebration.

Before that when Marriott dinked it over Casilla at Elland Road.

Hendrick at the City Ground in 2011.

Pearson vs West Brom.

The loudest I remember was when we were down to 10 v Middlesbrough atmosphere was brilliant and went through the roof when Jonathan Hunt smacked home the winner.

The administration / relegation season:

Bielik against Birmingham, made even sweeter after the poisonous atmosphere from the away end. Tom Lawrence’s goals against Sheff Utd was it. Sibley’s late winner against Peterborough. The win against Fulham. Curtis Davies against Reading. The atmosphere and release when these goals were scored, the togetherness and the sheer us against them attitude with the potential death of the club hanging over us made these game ‘spine-tingling’ for me.

Got to be worthy of a shout.

Paulo Wanchope receiving the ball in the Derby County half, charging past 4 United players before slotting it in the corner past an amazed and helpless Schmeichel.  Saw it live in a pub full of stunned United fans, I screaming like a demented banshee, oh what a moment, what killer looks I got and how little I cared.

Derby 4 Ipswich 4, Steve Mac just appointed with a watching brief. We were falling apart so he came down and stuck his oar in.

Turned me from a casual supporter in to a fan. Got that football shiver that I hadn’t had for 25 plus years. …That shiver … I think all of us know it, it doesn’t come every week but when it does, it’s a moment to savour.

A draw ? A team in the bottom half of the table ? …. Didn’t care, there was something special that night and it made me fall in love with live football all over again. Made me a proper Ram. The best of memories 🐏

Hard to beat that recently after the trials of administration. But as others mentioned bielik goal after the march and marriott goal at elland road (wasnt there even)

but for pure emotion just walking out into the ground first game after we were rescued from administration has it for me

Going to the first match after relegation to Lg1 is a most depressing moment to fans of most teams, but for us, it was the joy and relief that we still had a team to support and a hope that we would never take that for granted again. Watching our players come out of the tunnel to start that game was really emotional, realising how close we were to losing it all.

I’ll throw another one in from recent times. Not a “greatest moment” but a huge unforgettable emotional upwelling.

That first game when we were emerging from Covid. Masks, hesitancy, showing your NHS vac cert, looking around, sitting in my seat, sun shining players coming out of the tunnel. Out of nowhere I had tears of relief, phew !  The world is getting back to normal, darkness recedes. It was a beautiful day.

The moment the ref's whistle blew to signal the end of the first game after we went into Administration, meaning we'd beaten Stoke. The deafening roar of defiance from the crowd at that moment set the tone for the fans for the rest of that season.

Also, beating Everton 2-1 in September 1969, the games against Benfica and Real Madrid and the 4-4 draw with Man U on Boxing Day 1970, probably the loudest football match where it was only fans making the noise that I've ever been to.

Many more that others have already quoted.
