Derby County vs Exeter City (H) Match Thread

Appreciate Exeter weren’t up to much, but I enjoyed tonight.

There was a purpose and intent to the play tonight, exactly what was needed after the weekend. Two good goals, another perfectly good goal disallowed, passed the ball quite well, varied the play between the middle and the wings, subs were well timed and contributed to the win.

We need more of that consistently. I said in the summer there’s enough goals in the side, if we can get them playing coherently and building some confidence more of those half chances become full chances and subsequently converted into goals (in my opinion).
Onto Saturday now 🐏

Don’t want to be damning with faint praise because that was a markedly better performance than many this season. We seemed to be coherent, attacking and defending as a unit and players were doing their individual jobs well.
but Exeter were pap.

we should be putting a sword to teams like that. Glad we did.

Under the circumstances that was 2 feet in the right direction. Just need to maintain that now and we’ll be happier fans and picking up points.

Good farewell win for Warne.

He has laid the foundations. He can walk away with his head held high and leaving us in a position of strength.

John Eustace can come in and take us to another level.

I see it now.

Excellent news.

Exeter looked like an Academy team. Pretty useless, weak and naive all across the pitch. Offered pretty much nothing in any facet of the game.

Thought we were pretty average. Defence played well but had very little to do. Wilson and NML were good and Bird decent too. Beyond that, not a lot to write home about.

A win is a win, and we absolutely needed that. A long way off looking like we’re turning a corner or have unlocked anything from this squad.

Very little off-ball movement first half. Still a glaring issue at striker with Waghorn poor and Collins horrendous when given his chance. Sibley not good enough and Hourihane walking about isn’t helping anything.

Sibley had just started to drop deep and pick up the ball and play it out to Barks - one for the disallowed goal - when he was yet again dragged off.

Yeah, funny you mentioned that, I noticed that. In the couple of minutes prior to going off it did look like he’d found a way to affect the game in a positive way. Then the hook came (which previously, in fairness, was likely deserved). Not that that excuses him subbing off Wilson, which was just crazy.

well they have lost 7 out of their last 8 games and are in a relegation battle.
