Atleast this means we are unlikely to have the two fixture lists coming out and there is some relative confidence we can fulfil our fixtures.

Little shred of hope for the day

Sorry to ruin the shred of confidence but all it means is that we have been entered into cup competitions.

The league is different because it requires you to commit to a full 2 legged round robin for 46 games. If you can't fulfil a cup fixture, the cup bye is a well established means of moving the competition onward without you.

It means we're hoping to fulfil the opening fixtures, and even if we can't there's no danger of us ruining the competition

I’ll take it for now!

Wow getting relegated to the third tier has really hit home. We're going to be playing in the Papa John's Trophy next season.

But on the bright side, at least we're still playing football.

Decent draw, should be expecting to beat both Grimsby and Mansfield and progress out the group. All dependent on still being alive and having a competitive squad come August, mind.

Neither exactly glamour ties though! Rather depressing to have sunk so low that our first team is in this competition, but I do hope we take it seriously still. Should always be wanting to win every game, and this is our best chance of silverware in a long time imo, however minor a trophy it may be.

Managed to upset the Grimsby Town fans on Twitter haven't I.

Mate tagged me in the announcement, all I said was the joys of being relegated, playing Grimsby in a pizza cup.

It's not the Leeds level of replies, but still.

If we don't beat those lot in the play the kids cup, I'm in for some right stick up here.

That’s the problem, we will play the kids, but we really do only have kids in the academy.

Get hiding now or hide all the sticks in Cleethorpes.
