I can’t say Ball ever looked like a championship forward ( apart from against West Ham )

Potential to be a Championship forward. Had the physique to be a handful and his record of 1 goal every 400 mins in his breakthrough season (in a lower mid-table Clough side) was respectable for a 19 year old. A couple of years building off that and who knows what may have been. I think he lost his hunger when we started loaning him out.

He has been on the bench as we have very little choice.

Liverpool would only loan a youngster to get regular game time. Though thinking about it, they may loan him back to us for the rest of the season re covid.

The way we are going though, nothing is going to chance from our side and we still have very little choice ?

Someone rang Radio Derby last night outraged about the transfer as he reckoned Gordon was the best young prospect he's ever seen play for the under 18s. Given we have been in various states of lockdown and not allowed to go to Academy games all the time he's been playing at that level I thought it was a pretty bold claim.

Unless he was Darran Wassall, of course!

Good luck to young Kaide, sorry to see him go but that's life at Academy level and it's a great opportunity for him.

Was it Mel?

Fixed that to-

Liverpool have press ganged Derby into taking a paltry fee for a young player, who decided a 200 k signing on fee would be nice. The fee will be less than they pay there reserve goalie for a month with no adds on as Derby were desperate and couldn't risk a tribunal.

Derby have potentially lost 20 million in kids in two seasons for 10% of the value -  why bother -take the 5/6 million a year for running the academy and just buy two players.

Do you know what the deal is?

Yes. We train young players for a few years.  If there wanted by bigger clubs they go for potentially 10% of there long term value.

I don’t think £3million is a paltry fee for a 16 year old who hasn’t done anything yet! I’m sure there are add ons aswell based on future performance.

Are we sure he's the best 16 year old in the country or have we just made that up & said that to move him on?

He must be a good prospect for united & Liverpool to be interested, but they'd probably poach most half decent 16 year olds given half the chance in the hope they make it.

If they make it then its a good gamble paid off. If they dont then they sell the next solanke or ibe to Bournemouth for an inflated fee & see a big return

There have been loads of kids that are apparently the next big thing & drop off. There is more chance of him not making it than making it at the highest level. People develop at different rates and the best 16 yr old now might not be the best 18 or 20 year old in a few years.

For all we know liam delap & Gordon could be the next best think or they end up having a few loan moves & end up being the next harry Wilson or Patrick bamford carving out decent careers but not setting the world alight

Id take the money. We need it, Gordon potential & long term. We need money to sort our short term future out

Is what we spend on the academy excluded from P & S?
