Lineker is one of the biggest top hat socialists currently employed by the BBC. He uses his profile at the Beeb as a platform for his socialist ideology. I would respect him if he accepted the average UK wage of £38 131.00 a year and not per week.

I doubt you'd respect him regardless of his salary. Your first two sentences show that.

The BBC has lost the plot in the last decade  they have diversified and simply can’t afford their aspirations in my opinion the BBCs  aspirations have no relationship to what the listening/viewing public want.

I used to be a avid fan of BBC radio 4 it was always on, I haven’t listened to Radio 4 for 2 years due to all the Woke stuff.

The sports scene music always brings a smile to my face, an hour of talk about Derby and then the match, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Given the choice of an hour long discussion about gender reassignment or Sports scene and it’s Sport scene every time.

Except it's not that choice is it? It's disingenuous to suggest it is.

There's nothing like a discussion on the BBC to bring out the Right's froth.

I can't see why there is this reluctance for the BBC to use advertising to supplement it's income, they already do it on the BBC World stations that you can watch in your hotel room, the world over. There are many local commercial tv and radio stations in this country that provide a good service and don't rely on the tax payer being forced to foot the bill.

It is well known that there are 100s of people on the BBC payroll who are excessively overpaid. How can anyone in a job paid for by the public, whether in the BBC or elsewhere, justify being paid more than the Prime Minister, who is responsible for running the country?

Is not a straight choice I agree but it is indicative of the way the BBC has lost touch with the people who pay the licence and watch/ listen to the BBC.

Liz Truss was massively underpaid then, in your opinion?

Or maybe it's the Director General at the BBC that you should contact, not the Tories.

"Around £19 million from the BBC’s local budget will be “reprioritised” from broadcast services to online and multimedia production."

So the BBC would rather spend your money on attracting a younger, probably woker audience

Why don't they just shelve the Eurovision Song Test, that'd save loads of money

Crazy thing is that a lot of their ‘target’ audience don’t listen to radio and don’t watch TV. My lad is 22 - he streams any content he wants via Spotify or Netflix/Amazon Prime - he’s simply not interested in anything the BBC produces yet they insist that they want to produce more content for his generation and sod the older folk who rely on local radio and TV…..

Its got nothing to do with providing local news. Radio, TV and newspapers have been very little to do with telling us what us happening, either locally or nationally for years. It has long been about propaganda, and why produce it from half a dozen different locations when it can all be done centrally, such as Westminster?

Finally, someone has got to the point. It has f*** all to do with politics or who thinks the BBC is bias or not.

I'm 34, I don't use any of the services apart from BBC Sport website. I don't want to make sweeping generalisations, but plenty have already on this thread so....£160 is a rip off, for me and anyone under 35.

But £160 is obviously cheap for others who listen to radio etc. But if they keep wasting money chasing the wrong audiences, then services like the ones being cut make it even more ridiculous.

So you don't watch any BBC TV or listen to radio or use the website.

Well I do.

Not a surprise in all honesty, this was rumoured to be happening a few years ago, was only a matter of time.

Think we will see area BBC buildings with shared studios including digital content like podcasts can be recorded, shows like Sport Scene might not be dead a buried, just not something that you would be able to tune into live on the radio.

As a TV licence payer, I have to be honest and say I don’t personally get value for money in what I pay for each year as oppose to services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, so I kinda begrudge paying more, I would if I had to, not one of these that will challenge the legality behind it all.

Outside of using the BBC Sport website occasionally and following the news accounts on Twitter, I would struggle to tell you what I watch/listen to. £160 a year, hmm.

Being outside the Derby area I would have to pay a fiver a month to listen to live commentary, yet for a few quid more and some computer location based trickery I get to actually watch the games, it’s a no brainer. Sport scene I can take it or leave it, I only really tune in when something major has happened, the emergency shows. Outside of that it’s a chat between content creators that I already follow online and can read their opinions through their social media channels.

I appreciate my usage case will be different to others on this forum, feel sorry for those that rely on these shows that are not savvy with the internet, however I can understand the logic behind moving to hybrid programmes whilst the TV licence fee remains frozen. I’m not sure they can really justify an increase whilst so many families are already struggling to keep the lights on and forced to buy a licence just for having a TV in their house.

The solution quite simply is partial funding through advertisements…well that and and stop paying Gary Lineker £1.35m to front a football highlights show for 10 months of the year.

Well I tune into it in fact got saved on my phone and I think it should be kepted get rid likes of strictly comes dancing and just that like live singing stuff load of rubbish rather they made things like king Arthur and mirlin or something like that.

Yeah, sadly though B4 the BBC won’t work their programming schedule just to suit you, Strictly is one of their big shows that gains the views.

Have you thought about giving some of the podcasts a go, ask your Dad to help you out downloading a podcasts app and search for

As for the cost of the licence it is what people are prepared to pay for? How many no football fans want to pay for all the Derby County sport coverage?

You don’t need a (TV) licence to listen to the radio.

Exclusive football coverage on the TV, is only possible for Manchester United.

Scrap the licence fee and fund it solely through advertising. Over paid presenters and a diversity manager £250k+, it’s turned into a money pit and they’ve completely lost touch with how the majority of people consume their entertainment. They’ve lost out on multiple sports contracts over the years they’ve even lost some England games in recent years. Their model is completely outdated and needs a revamp but their too comfortable charging people a licence fee under the threat of jail time if you don’t pay it.

BBC Diversity manager £250k for a 3 day week don’t forget.

The BBC are too busy looking after the gravy train in London to bother about regional Radio stations scrap the license fee it’s outdated get rid of the whole lot.

I was listening to Erewash sound today they announced the presenters are volunteers.
