I just don’t think Frank deserves fawning over.

He has done a fairly good but unremarkable job and yet it’s...

Rowett? Snake.

Jewell? Porn star.

Clough? Clueless, non league Nigel.

Davies? Poisoned dwarf.

Frank? Thanks for the memories.

I don’t get it.

Rowett - Crap football, never admitted his mistakes, talked endlessly about improving things and changing approaches and never did til it was forced upon him.  Left us for a tinpot club down the road who have got a fortune in parachute payments, but can't be arsed filling in a corner of their ground.

Jewell - Spent a fortune on absolute tosh, and had us playing tosh.  Anyone who sat through the defeat to Charlton shortly before he was sacked would agreed it wouldn't have been harsh if he'd been shot, let alone sacked.

Clough - Only his biggest detractors (and other club's fans) call him that.  Top bloke, got it right at times, but handicapped himself with negative tactics.

Davies - You're really going to try and defend that narcissistic little weasel??

Frank - Improved the football after a season of Rowett's crap.  Got the fans back on side, gave us some great results, some average results, some poor results.  Energised the club, and gave the whole city a buzz.  Will leave us for a much bigger (albeit tossier) club, that he played 400 games for.

Frank wasn't perfect but he was a season that was more enjoyable than those above did.  And yes @MuespachRam before you pipe up, better than King Bill-eh...

Does anyone on here really still believe that Lampard hasn’t “spoken “ to Chelsea before today ? Sure he already knows exactly what the terms and conditions of his new contract are and probably has for a while Either via his “insider” friends at the club or even Abramovich himself as he’s close friends All done “unofficially”of course ?And him being on holiday wouldn’t stop him sorting out his “dream” job don't kid ourselves But hey ho we are Derby so onwards and upwards ??

It's fairly obvious, but I suspect we have not been idle either, at least I hope we haven't!

If Frank had left us for WBA then I imagine the reception would be different, perhaps even the Newcastle job. I agree Frank did a good but unremarkable job, but no reason to not wish him well. It's the media circus that's been painful, not his actions. I wish him well - I really do. I have no reason not to. Rowett went to Stoke and bragged about the odds on their promotion. Jewell was caught up in a sex tape. Clough was here through a very dreary time of being a Derby fan where a top half finish looked to be an impossible achievement. Davies, well, you don't need me to tell you why he's disliked. Frank is leaving for a Champions League club.

We're in a very good position on and off the field. We just need to get this summer right.

He is deserting us at the first opportunity he gets.

We are one week away from pre-season and we have no idea who our manager is going to be and what the strategy is moving forward.

No-one can blame him for taking a bigger and better opportunity, but timing is everything.

Finish the job, get us promoted, and then look across the bar lovingly at Chelsea.

Frank has shown the same level of commitment to us as one might see in a series of Love Island.

I admire your optimism but let’s see how things develop.

I assume Mel will be unveiling himself at the manager on TalkSport tomorrow!

I am rather surprised that he is giving them this in depth interview, as they have been one of the main instigators of bad blood in all this .   Would have suspected he may have done local Radio .  I don't really care about Chelsea which is all you'll get from Talksport - when was the approach made, etc.   The only interest they have had in us, is when it's suits there agenda .  Hopefully, he may take the opportunity to advise them what nobbers they are .

The way I'm dealing with this is to see us and Frank as like a holiday romance. Whilst the sun is shining and everything is rosy then you promise each other the earth. We know in our hearts that their is no longevity in our relationship but we endeavour to enjoy our time together and meet up again in Blighty. However that bar steward Frank has only gone and nailed his ex in the departure lounge toilets on the way home and whats more has bragged about it to all his mates. I feel dirty.

Should of gone for the ugly friend instead. ?JT anybody.

I think this Lamps appointment is largely media driven. I suspect that both Chelsea and FL feel that it's a bit early, but feel obliged to complete the 'dreamteam'.

The chances are that it will all end in tears within 12 months.

If Frank had wanted the job, it would have been very easy for him to make that clear to Chelsea with all the contacts he has there. Who knows if he was their number one target. I can't fault him for going for the job but I feel it is the wrong move for him and Chelsea. We are in a better position than last summer but we do need a lot of work. The uncertainty doesn't matter to Chelsea as they can't sign anyone anyway, but we can and all that has been on hold. Chelsea has shown no respect, ex players associated have shown no respect. Having thought about it more, I want Chelsea to fail but wish no ill to Lampard... Been a holiday romance but hopefully the next manager commits long term because some stability would be nice.

Well it hit 300 pages then!! ?‍♂️

The way the media has treated us has made this sour. I don’t believe Frank is behind it but we will find out soon enough. When he goes he certainly goes with my best wishes. He’s energised the club again and built a connection with the fans unlike any manager in the 30 years I’ve supported Derby. He’s also given us some great memories with United Southampton Norwich and the Leeds playoff. It’s gutting we didn’t get over the line but we move on.

Hes built an emotional connection with the fans and he will be a highly successful manager in the game. I have no doubt on this. We’d have built again he would’ve improved on last season and I’m convinced he would’ve taken us to the premier league. However, right now in his development, there are better managers available to manage Derby than Frank.

As for moving forward, the club is in a better position than it was last year both financially and in terms of squad size. We’re playing a better brand of football. The youth prospects are as good as at any other  time i can remember. With the right appointment we should be challenging again.

£4m compo plus that for coaching staff with opportunity to continue building a young hungry team - this is still an exciting time to be a Derby fan. I’d certainly much rather be in our position than the geriatric red dogs!! We’ll be finishing above them for the 7th time in a row whatever happens!!

We should be banging an additional day rate on top of the 4m compo to speak with lampard with how long chelski have dragged this on for. Everyone deep down knew he was off But this could have been wrapped up a while ago and we could have begun building for next year.

Who's to say Chelsea have dragged it out?

Maybe, they asked for permission to speak to Frank over a week ago?  Maybe Mel wanted to have a chat, man to man, face to face with Frank, before he responded?  Frank was on holiday, as we know.

Chelsea could do nothing until this morning, when we gave permission to talk (unless there has been considerable delay between giving the permission, and announcing it publicly).

We still don't know if Chelsea have actually asked for permission, or if DCFC have just given it anyway!

There are just far too many unknowns for anyone on here to comment with any accuracy of fact.  It is what it is!

Interestingly, Chelsea haven't put  the news that they've been given permission to speak to Frank up on their website ?

Quite. I do wonder whether Chelsea have actually asked.

Or whether this is another ploy to get Chelsea to put up or move on.

I don't envy whoever comes next. Been saying for a while that once we appointed Lampard and decided we were going to go for a prestigious name over an experienced "boring choice" that it's a long way back. A lot of unnecessary pressure for the new manager to live up to, players having to deal with a change in manager status (from one of the most famous England players in the modern era to...) and lastly the fans. Frank was like a bit of a fairytale - can you imagine going back to the dull plod of having a boring manager like Rowett or Nigel Clough?

The only way back is if they are an immediate success - but given all the changes that's far from a given. I can see whoever comes in not lasting the season
