There's an old saying Pete "you have to be cruel to be kind" I'll lose no sleep if we miss out on either the play offs, Get to the play offs or lose the final, We've had this before under the wee Scotsman, We were promoted and slaughtered in the season back to the PL...11points 😡.

Also "you don't look a gift horse in the mouth" so if by some luck/judgement we do get promoted then you grab what you have, Another season in League1 will not be a disaster imo, This season has been a big learning curve, We as fans now know what this division is all about, PW is well aware of what this division is about, We now need those players with the experience of this division, Attitude and character to make a go of it next season.

I had a good conversation with a coach that works at Moor Farm 2 days ago(not the 1st team)we spoke about the Women's team and the cost of promotion if they were to go up...£500k 😬, He showed me a picture of his friend(Punjabi Rams)with a DCFC flag at the side of Forests Red bus at the weekend at PP...there must be a picture out there on twitter I guess, Also on the 1st team squads fitness where we all have mentioned we look tired, A nod and a wink confirmed our thoughts.

A small squad and with no new faces in January could be our undoing...time will tell 😉

But the reason we were slaughtered is because Billy sabotaged our season before it even started. He is famously quoted as saying at Wembley  "It should have been Preston's ribbons being tied on the trophy". He then went on holiday for who knows how many weeks, so when he finally set about bringing in Premiership quality players, they'd all been signed up, and we had to make do with what was left (ie the ones nobody else wanted). In addition he tried to take on the Premiership teams with his hoof-ball tactics, which only worked the once when Wimbledon surprised everybody with those tactics), and most certainly don't work when all you've got are Championship quality players. And in the middle of all that he started engineering his dismissal with regular statements to the media about needing the club to back him, when there was actually very little more they could do. He was duly sacked, leaving Paul Porno to take over the reigns of the hamstrung horse.

As I said Dave.

"We've had this before under the wee Scotsman, We were promoted and slaughtered in the season back to the PL...11points"

Buying Claude Davis for £3m was the highlight of our transfer dealings 😡

What a ridiculous statement to make regarding Covid, you can't possibly say that suddenly losing nearly £30m of income had no effect on the business. Yes, I agree that the business was vulnerable because MM's actions, but without Covid the club would not have gone into administration at that time. If he had continued in the same manner, then it would have happened at a later date, but there were signs that we were starting to reduce the wages before administration, when high earning players were not replaced.

I still cannot fathom why clubs weren't given special dispensation due to Covid, which then meant miraculously we werent able to access the 8 million grant/loan. infact the only reason I can think of is because had those things happened, it would probably have saved the club and Parry wouldn't have been able to get Mel.

There's nobody left.  Then there's Eddie Lewis, Andy Griffin and a whole host of total pap he spent millions on in wages like Fagan and Macken.  Better with nobody at all.

I think the story went something like this.

Rick Parry said...DCFC never asked for a Covid loan

DCFC said...we were told by the EFL that if we asked for a Covid loan it would be denied.

Excellent post. At the time I had some sympathy with Gasdby, but in hindsight he should perhaps have been ruthless and sacked poisonous Davies after his disrespectful Wembley comments.

Make your mind up, you can't say Covid had nothing to do with it and then say that covid accelerated it.

You make up your mind.

You say that if we had continued in the same manner than regardless of Covid us entering administration would have happened at a later date.

But then you try to mitigate that this wouldn't have happened as there were signs that we were moving in the right direction financially.

So actually you don't know if Covid didn't appear then we would have entered administration anyway. Down to Morris.

The following DET article says David Clowes has settled a historic debt relating to agents fees. It also states we paid £250k in agents fees last summer as they are capped as part of the business, so not ruled out entirely 🤔

And the club statement it relates to;

I'm being particularly dim this afternoon.

What does "the club is only permitted to pay a maximum of 5% in intermediary fees on any transfers" mean if we can't pay any actual transfer fees? What is it 5% of? Wages?

I’m also baffled, maybe it’s 5% of the contract value? So effectively wages as you suggest.

A lot of the players in League 1 are only earning £2k a week. If we can pay several players £10k-£12k a week , we must stand a chance of getting the better players , especially if we can get Beilik’s wages sorted for his last year.

His agent might have been one that we needed to pay to get him moved to Birmingham to save some wages - who knows

So does that just mean small enough to not need to be disclosed seperately?

I wonder if it is a matter of timing. The accounts are up to 30th June 2022.

David Clowes bought the club on 1st July 2022. Rob Couhig is on record as saying that the money for the compensation to WW came through two days after this.
