This is what the free speech brigade ultimately fear isn't it? The Saudi government have literally sentenced someone to death for their posts on Twitter

Luckily he's got free-speech absolutist Elon Musk on his side - leaping to the defence and condemning the Saudis. Or has he?

    Radio silence so far

Technically, despite being a free-speech absolutist in the infamous BBC interview Musk said something along the lines of Twitter will abide by the law of the land and if people want to change that they should vote in different Govts - obviously a lot easier in some parts of the world than others 😕

I also note from the article that he was also sentenced to death for his tweets, retweets and youtube activity.  I guess one of those doesn't fit the borderline obsessive anti-Musk narrative that some people have on here.

Tyrese Fornah from Florists? They quoted Reading £1 mill for him. Really? They are going to sell us a player to help us get back to the Champ? You have put your reputation on the line here. Done deal you say.

Its self serving really, they've missed playing us in the Brian Clough Trophy.  They are gonna try and help us get promoted this season so we can play them again next season...

  3. PW said we weren't a top 3 team but didn't imply the players weren't good enough - iirc he said players such as Conor and Fozzy couldn't be expected to go flat out for 46 games, they need help and we need more bodies.

As we all know 4 or 5 good signings before the transfer window shuts and this season starts to look a lot better, I didn't read anything negative into his comments other than we need to get moving in the transfer market pretty damn quick.

  4. Not a chance.

If some people are saying the Derby job is too big for Paul Warne, anyone thinking we can parachute a female manager into the top England job with no experience in mens football is living in cloud cuckoo land.  The first indifferent result and she'd be under intense pressure.

If she comes into the mens game though and does well at a high level, then there is a conversation to be had.

And what you’ve done is look for opportunities to argue. I think he prioritised defenders to fit his 3/5 at the back. He said he wanted to, we needed to. And we did. I’m happy enough with the players he got in.

However, that means he didn’t prioritise a striker.

Warne was having conversations with McGoldrick as soon as the season ended. He’s said as much. He also intimated that he was aware of McG’s desire to return home. So that tells us that he could have started planning then. That’s June. 2 months ago.

I'm glad he got defenders he wanted. I understand that the striker market is slow/empty/whatever you want to call it. But you can’t tell me he didn’t focus on the defence over the attack.

Also worth adding I appreciate any and all money that Clowes puts into the club. I’m simply sharing my frustration. Not sure I need your input, as I’m not demanding anything other than a chance to vent. Which is what the forum is.

I'm pretty sure that Warne and the Recruitment Staff are capable are focussing on more than one target at a time.

The fact we haven't got a striker in yet and the rumours that Billy Sharpe is now considering a move to the US as more money is on offer highlights our predicament - we haven't got 500k to splash on a striker and what few strikers that have moved for nominal fees have probably had better offers (financially and/or locationally) elsewhere.

Just because we haven't got one in yet, doesn't mean we haven't put  as much effort into it as recruiting for other positions.

  6. Well said @Rev

We're still under EFL restrictions and we're still turning the ship around.  Its gonna take time and there are gonna be ups and downs along the way.

I think both David Clowes and Paul Warne (and his staff) are honourable men and will get it right if given enough time, some of the comments I've read on the forums this week have been borderline delusional.

It's sad that modern day society demands instant success whilst conveniently ignoring where we've come from and the strides we've made.  Yeah recent results and performances haven't been great - and no one knows that more than Warne himself, but turning on the manager and booing the players 135 minutes into a season isn't helping.

Warne's said we need players in, the transfer window is still open and they are working around the clock to bring the right people in - our squad may look a lot different in a few weeks time.  Whether we can afford the players we want/need however is another matter, beyond Clowes/Warnes control and a legacy of Mel Morris tenure and the EFL.

Sacking a proven manager at this level not even a year into a 4 year deal, whilst we're still hamstrung by the EFL would set alarm bells off imho - shades of Mel Morris hiring and firing culture.  Paul Warne has been bought into a club on its knees, tasked with rebuilding it from top to bottom and getting us promotion.  Whilst we would all like the progress graph to be a nice, smooth upward curve, real life is rarely that simple.  A kneejerk reaction from the club now would set us back further than we already are.
