What's the point of starting a transfer rumour then in the same breadth totally writing it off happening.

Saw it so shared it and gave my opinion on it … not hard is it?

You seem very certain that we have zero percent chance of signing him.

I don’t think we do and I don’t think we’ll be in for him but why not share it when I saw it?

Dwight Gayle is far too smart of a striker not to score goals at this level.

We saw it with Jordan Rhodes who people assured me had lost his legs and wasn't the same player. I said the same thing then as I am now. The level we are playing at is absolutely honking to the point where it's embarrassing for some of the lads playing to even call themselves professional footballers.

Gayle is probably finished as a forward in the Championship, but in a top 8 team in the League One would cause no end of damage. I have no doubt he's better than the other strikers on our books.

No, no, no. He was a pretty decent player, but he has not been on his game for 5 years. We have Washington and Waghorn supposedly back soon. That would be 3 average journeymen strikers, waiting for one above average journeyman striker to not be available. We missed out getting someone we needed. Gayle would just be a case of badly papering over cracks with expensive wallpaper.

My first thought was the same, but then you look at how Jordan Rhodes has done this year.

This is Derby though, so he'd almost certainly be crap.

But we are short of firepower right now. Definitely not the future, unlikely we could pay anything close to what he wants but then again I very much doubt any other club is going to except as a massive gamble.

If he wants to play for us because it’s close to home and he wants to keep fit and he’s getting near the end of his career, I’d happily give him a 6 month deal at normal squad pay with a promo bonus. Pretty sure that’s similar to what Waggy has.
Warne is much maligned but along with DC I bet we aren’t handing out sweeties, long contracts to older players. They are doing a job for a specific objective. We won’t go anywhere and can’t look anywhere long term while we are in this league and still under the eye of the EFL. So of necessity deals will be pragmatic.

There’s another shot too of the same car at one of the junctions near Pride Park, coincidence? Deep fake?

Stoke 23/24 - 14 Apps, 0 Goals
Stoke 22/23 - 37 Apps, 3 Goals
Newcastle 21/22 - 9 Apps, 0 Goals
Newcastle 20/21 - 20 Apps, 1 Goal
Newcastle 19/20 - 22 Apps, 4 Goals
West Brom 18/19 - 41 Apps, 24 Goals

Would have been on 20K+ at Stoke, and surely there'll be lower Champ teams in for a player who's plied his trade in the Prem + Champ his entire career,

Wouldn't say no though...

The amount of games can be misleading as as the playing time has been mostly some minutes. Better insight would be minutes played and goal contribution/game. PL = Premier league, CS = Championship

CS Stoke 23/24 - 14 Apps, 0 Goals              402 min
CS Stoke 22/23 - 37 Apps, 3 Goals              2409 min, 3 G + 5 A = contribution  every 3.33 games
PL Newcastle 21/22 - 9 Apps, 0 Goals         106 min
PL Newcastle 20/21 - 20 Apps, 1 Goal         543 min, 1 G = contribution every 6 games
PL Newcastle 19/20 - 22 Apps, 4 Goals      847 min,  4 G + 2 A = contribution  every 1.5 games
CS West Brom 18/19 - 41 Apps, 24 Goals    2845 min, 23 G + 8 A = contribution every game

A minute here or there and he's not worth it. But play him regularly, like Stoke did last season, and he will produce. I'm sure he'd destroy this league with Collo.
