Missing Supporters

I was shopping in Belper last week and my ears pricked up at a conversation between two elderly gents in the aisle at the supermarket. They were lamenting the fact that getting tickets (or season tickets?) was beyond them at present because they couldn't print their tickets. One said that he thought he might have to cancel his direct debit.  A club that is in such dire financial straits should surely be encouraging as many supporters into the ground and removing obstacles. The confusion over season tickets and a closed ticket office just before the start of the season is financial madness or am I missing a huge point somewhere? Surely the income generated by opening up the ticket office and telephone outweighs the cost of staffing it? I really feel for those of our older fans who can't access the system.

It’s not a fair comment. We are @ 10-13 K down on pre COVID attendance. Why would around 10% of all UK deaths be regular attendees of Derby games?? The answer to the question of small attendance must be closer to home and be a reflection of the organisation and ownership of the club which has led to the malaise amongst fans

Maybe Nick Blackman and Jacob Butterfield were super spreaders?

A fair few aren’t in their old seats quiet in my neck of the woods … It will change.

I reckon we have the holiday dip, plus the nervous for health reasons, plus the worriers over laying out money when we are seemingly in difficulty financially. Then we have those who are just out of the habit, the annual “shall / I shan’t I renew” Then those, like me who didn’t realise how easy it was to claim your old seat back .. so The 16/18 K I can easily see getting to low 20’s as the weeks pass. If we get some results we will be at low/mid 20’s pretty soon. After that it’s the 5k who come when times are good and the footy is sexy .. ‘‘twas always thus” I think. Just a slow start considering what has happened to the world in the last 18 months. Hey and consider that there is a 18 months worth of children who haven’t been “baptised” by mums, dads granddads and grannies

All will be well and with the south stand on their game it can only get better.

I'm glad to get back to normality  but I will still do everything I can do to protect my 90 year old mum who I care for and my father-in-law who had a second operation in April for lung cancer. I am enjoying freedom with lots of walks and picnics but because of the above scenario I am hesitant to mingle in crowds, even if outdoors.

Yes, I do realise that. I know three people personally that have died due to Covid, and a heck of a lot more who haven't got back to anything like normal living. Thought I had acknowledged in my post that there would be a variety of reasons why they aren't there.

That doesn't alter the fact that the people who were sitting in my area of the ground, all regulars, did very little in recent seasons to get behind the team. Their money, their choice.

I didn't like it and much prefer to sit with supporters who give some support.

Its been great getting back to our seats .

Bit like sticking your head above the trench, though, as you nervously glance around. Great delight and smiles all round as you see for the first time in months and months your fellow positive supporting rams fans. Inner groans and disappointment when you realise some of the moaners and foul mouthers have renewed !

If he’s 5 years old he’ll only get the free ticket for one season now that the club has changed it’s age policy

I would hope my post did not infer otherwise, as it was a point I was fully aware of, when brutally attacking said 5 year old newbie.  He needs to get used to the harsh realities of being a Rams fan, and the earlier the better I say.

He'll thank me for it... in around 6 decades time!   ?

One thing that really struck me yesterday, and I have no idea what it means, is that very few people around us in the East Stand left before full time.

Previously, there would generally be a big rush out by a fair few people starting on precisely 80 minutes ( ie generally a good 15 minutes before the end….?) . Their right, no problem, but blocking everyones views at what is often the critical time in the game .

Yesterday no-one was leaving on 80 minutes, and very few before full time.

As I say, I have no science behind what this means, but it does seem an interesting coincidence that we have a great atmosphere the whole game long, we have the vast, vast majority backing the team and players and we have very few people leaving early, when we get down to a core attendance of around 16000.

Could be a complete coincidence and my thinking is utter balderdash of course !!

This is one moaner, Derby 0 Sunderland 4...Lionel Pickering said "All those Derby fans that moan go and support those down the A52", Lionel you should never have said that to Derby fans, When the 4th goal went in I was pissed off, So I walked onto the pitch threw my Season ticket away and was aiming for the West Stand Directors Seats, Unfortunately as you see I was pulled up before I could finish what I started.

Jags is there.

It wasn't a poor game of football at all. That's the sort of comment that you get when Sky show a game and it's not the 'big boys'! It was a hard fought game that the ref never really got hold of. There was tension and excitement and anger and happiness. Plus skill and determination.

Why do you have to pick at other peoples views?

Jags is there? Yes he was is it down to WR? I think it probably was.

Sorry pal. I'm on holiday. I'll be back for the West Brom game!

Apologies. I've been on the Mythos. It's Stoke isn't it. I even checked the fixtures prior to posting and still got it wrong.

Pick at other people's views? What do you do then mate?!

You think Jags was there because of Wayne. Wayne says ask Jags, he should have said or Spanish! ?

Nice one hales, When the 2 stewards asked me to come quietly with them they marched me right passed the Mackems, By the time I got passed them I was covered in spit, Police wanted to arrest me, Luckily a mate was head steward at the time and he took over, I asked him what's going off...gotta throw you out Alf he said and out I went, Free beer the rest of the night by those in the Neptune and Tiger bar, My mate got pulled in the next day and was hauled over the coals, He gave me a bell to help him out.

We came up with a story that I was his Uncle and he couldn't have me being arrested, A letter was sent to DCFC and all was made good, I took a 7 game hit, My very next game all those around applauded my return, Then a copper mooches along the row of seats taps me on the shoulder and says "we have our monitors on you so watch out" my reply...enjoy your day fella now go and escort some old dears across the road aye.

There’s a huge shortage of staff everywhere because of the pingdemic. No staffy no openly.
