kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong
I'm beginning to think that if we are to undertake a full rebuild of this club, from top to bottom, then a drop to league 1 might be the only way to achieve it,the only way to fully and immediately remove Rooney and his sycophants from the club together with all of the other celebrity baggage we have been collecting and dragging along with us since 2016. The majority of the squad will also be gone and we will be under the radar for a time which will allow the rebirth to have less intense scrutiny. Feels a bit like Britain in 1940 shedding the last of its useless allies (France and rooney) who were dragging us into the abyss but which allowed us to then rebuild, grow stronger and finally be victorious. Well, that's one way it could go,hopefully. LeedsCityRam, r_wilcockson and Jourdan 1

Big Trav
Don’t think it matters really. We stay up this season we’ll just go down next season. Just pushing back the inevitable with Rooney in charge. Our biggest hope is we stay up and erik alonso comes in and sacks Rooney and his ‘staff’ instantly and go all out for greesy wilder r_wilcockson

We probably can't afford to sack him as things stand and he may want to stay as getting us straight back up is his only realistic way of salvaging his managerial reputation other than dropping to the lower leagues anyway Sickening thought isn’t it, we go down and Rooney has to stay - that is if he wants a career in management- as no one else will want him and we can’t afford to sack him

No, there is another option. We stay up and Rooney goes. Clearly, the coaching and management set-up is all wrong, as well as the weak playing staff. Hobson had a choice between one thing or nothing. So in reality he had a take or leave it decision. So the OP is correct.

Curtains
1 of course Some people seem to get pleasure in other peoples downfall. Some people are getting pleasure from Derby’s position. I find it very sad. Steve How Hard? and Tamworthram

RadioactiveWaste
Still, despite the misgivings, option 1. Trying to convince ourselves a positive reset is going to happen in League 1 is pretty much a coping mechanism. Things might get better over time, but being relegated isn't ever a good thing.
