Early Realistic Aspirations for 24/25

What are our early aspirations for next season, prior to any signings?

Personally, I would be happy to consolidate our position in the Championship without spending too much money. If we could steer clear of the relegation dog fight and flirt with the top half, I would be happy.

This would give us a platform to build upon and aim for the play offs the following season, all the while, steadily improving the quality of our team.

My head says, I would like us to start with a good sensible recruitment drive.  Sign players who are young with promise, I would like to see a few unknown foreign players...players who will contribute and become saleable assets.

I would also like to see us pick up a few Luke Planges from the Arsenals/Liverpools of the world, try and get some u21s who are on the cusp of the 1st team.

Id hope we see a team fighting and I would be happy to finish anywhere but relegation, ideally around mid table. And with another couple of decent windows, hopefully, we start challenging again.

HOWEVER...my heart says, lets ride this wave we are on, selling out the stadium, stick the house on Black, sign some players and lets go and win the bloody thing!

Probably mid-table but hopefully with sparks of brilliance along the way from the young hungry-for-success players we're signing as they gel as a team ready for the promotion push the following year

If were looking to shift players on 10k a week who scored 19 goals last season and another on around the same who, like him or not, was Captain last season, to facilitate room in the wage bill, I predict a miserable bottom 6 finish with us getting a few loans in January to keep us up.

If it's all rumour and we bring in 6 or 7 new players and spend some money- 12th-14th.

The club to end next season having progressed both on and off the pitch.

It should be possible for the club in the future to be self-sustaining financially - the Academy should be the mechanism for this to start to take shape. At one time, it was envisaged that Moor Farm would become a football conveyor belt, supplying 1 or 2 first-teamers every year. If that can't be achieved, what is the point of having a top-level Academy?

Win half of our home games

Finish mid-table

Play better football

Exactly this.

Generate an atmosphere at Pride Park, have some good results and performances that fans can get behind. You want to see us sell more season tickets for 25/26 than for 24/25.

I think avoiding relegation is too low of a bar to set, we need be comfortably mid table and look more like we’re pushing ourselves into the top six than keeping our heads above water.

Play better football and win over the fanbase.

Warne has such a task on his hand to get results and improve the product on the pitch. Last season was my first in about a decade without a season ticket, i sat in the east stand for the final game and shocked how many people around me were moaning about the manager/football/players *as we got promoted in front of their very eyes*

If he’s going to stay the long course here, which everyone should be hoping for as you always want your current manager to be the one who’s capable of taking you to the Premier League, he needs to not only step up to the championship but show signs that we can play good football in the Championship.

Anyone talking about pushing for promotion needs a reality check, we’re probably going to have to sign over 10 players to compete in the Championship next season and if we don’t it will be because we have the likes of Collins and Hourihane still at the club.

A lot of change coming, you can’t expect a promotion push immediately, Ipswich are a huge, huge outlier who have one of the best young managers in the country and spent approx 10 million in League One before they came up.

Why would it be down to having to decent experienced pro's in our squad/at the Club, rather than down to the 'main 11 players' we sign up/on?!

I hope we get players who excite. In past years we’ve had players like Ebosele, Lawrence and Dobbin who could ghost past defenders. Players who get you off your seat.

We have done amazingly well to get back to the Championship, but much of it was workmanlike by necessity.

I hope we end next season with a real blueprint for the future, and I hope we can bring through some players from the youth set-up.

If we don’t go up or down - it doesn’t matter to me where we finish. My big hope for next season is we end the campaign with one or two (maybe even more?) players that we are excited to have at the club for the following season. A new Phil Gee, a Paulo Wanchope - Christ - even a Jeff Chandler. Give me hope and belief!

Survival is paramount that's for sure!

Looking at the last couple of seasons I would say let's aim for 17 wins which is falling short of play-off contention but far enough for staying up.

On a performance/style of play basis I just want to have a sense of fearlessness against teams that will be awash with £30k+ a week talent. I think we've seen enough championship football to know that even though a team looks terrifying on paper it doesn't mean they are a stable, motivated unit to play against. Also It will be interesting how Warne can adapt to accepting draws as positive results.

My aspiration is 6th and promotion via Wembley. It's not the most likely of outcomes, but is possible.

Paul Warne is key here. We won't have a competitive budget, but we do have momentum, team spirit and a manager who specialises in making the whole better than the sum of the parts. A few canny signings and Warne's ability to make us just good enough...and a shed load of luck and the Rams are going up.

OK, Warne's record in Championship isn't good, hopefully thus will be the season he gets it right.

Apart from the reference to Collins and Hourihane I would echo all of this. I tend to agree with @RoyMac5, Collins & Hourihane won’t make or break our season - probably not starters but good players to have around (albeit I suspect both maybe released).

The biggest factor for me is to have a feel good factor around Pride Park to keep fans with the players and management team.  Opinion very much split last season - flirting with the bottom 6 won’t help this so minimum mid table is needed with a style of play that fits a progressive Championship club.

I think that the promotion bounce and Warnes ability to knit together a team spirit is going to be key. This spirit may be utilised to compensate for a rebuilt squad, and having a lower budget than some other teams in that first season.

Earlier I referred to building blocks for a future charge and basket case clubs, I'd like to see us beat a few of these clubs, both in the table and on the pitch. PPS to get us over the line on some of those days.

Oh and the Teeside Dog Botherers, let's beat them, at their place.

The primary aim next season is to make sure we’re not relegated. Achieve that and we can then hope to build/consolidate/challenge the season after. However, for me, it does matter where we finish. If we survive by the skin of our teeth (maybe 20th or 21st) then we’ll be relieved to have survived but it would have meant we’ve endured a season with very few wins and probably not much joy. On the other hand, if we finish mid table I’ll feel more confident about the following season.
