Mullin is their highest earner on £4,500.00 a week, whilst a nice wage for a lower league footballer and people with normal jobs - I'd imagine Alfie May would be looking for somewhere in the region of double that given his body of work in the past two seasons. It makes them competitive with the likes of the Shrewsbury, Exeter and Cheltenham - it's still a mile off being able to compete financially with ourselves. It's not a too dissimilar to Salford, who bought their way out of the National League and into League Two. I can’t be sure of course, but I suspect the days of mega salaries in the lower leagues may well be past. Yes parachute clubs and a handful of others will be able to afford more but will he be wanted by them ?
B4ev6is
Who says he will go to them. He may just want to play football I think we should be looking for a pacey player that can work well with macgoldick that can play off slip through balls. strawhillram and angieram
Simmo’s left foot
He’s always caught my eye as a decent player when playing against us, could be an excellent signing. With the outgoings so far easily covering his wages, then a player like him combining with Didsy could be electric 😀 Edited May 15, 2023 by Simmo’s left foot
StarterForTen
According to an EFL source of mine, Cheltenham are one of four league one clubs whose highest paid player is on under £150,000 per year - that’s about £2,900 a week.

So are those 4 clubs the lowest payers ? I wonder what average wages are across the league ? There will be headline big bucks in places but I would be surprised if the average was much more than 4K a week ?

nottingram
Would be wary of paying fees for players if his age to be honest. Any transfer budget should be going on players with resale potential . Especially as his scoring is quite streaky JustOneBiblicalKazim and cstand

Ambitious
Yeah, it would be nice to bring in a striker with a decent level of production at this level rather than taking a chance on a championship player who may have been off it in the past couple of years. I think the fee is more than reasonable to allow him to move on. We need a couple of options upfront, perhaps three if McGoldrick moves on. Srg
I’d be surprised. He’s 30 before the season starts. Definitely doesn’t fit the identified profile. Linking him with us likely keeps the fee rising and wage demands. At the very least it drives clicks on websites. nottingram
Would rather we spent actual money on players with some resale potential. Plus he has a weird streaky record and hardly comes without risk. Hopefully better out there.
deanoakaram4life
The only way I can see this happening is if Mcgoldrick is off. If he was 25 then it would be a definite yes for me, but there is only a downward trajectory for his career. Let’s hope it’s not with Derby! Dean (hick) Saunders
2 successive years of 20goals in a pretty average L1 team seems decent unless I’m missing something.
