LazloW
Unbelievably heard Paul Hawksby and Andy Jacobs on TalkShite this afternoon saying how breaches of FFP should be fines rather than points deductions because taking points away penalises the fans; financial shenanigans are nothing to with fans and so should be fines instead. Can't remember the media coming out in sympathy with DCFC fans when we were having points deducted left, right and centre. Quite the opposite in fact. But, of course, this a premier league club so have to be treated differently to lowly EFL scum. RadioactiveWaste and Comrade 86
Kernow
Excellent timing for Everton, if it had to happen at all. They've had their deduction and they're only just in the relegation zone. They need to match Burnley's results, get 1 more point than Sheff Utd and 2 more than Luton and they're safe. There's no chance they'll go down. If they had this deduction last season, they'd have been 8 points off safety, the quality at the bottom is dreadful this year. It's a warning signal to other sides in the PL who may look to overspend but not actually achieve anything. You pump all that money in to things to stay in the PL, only to get a points deduction if you spend too much and possibly go down anyway. But then TalkSport presenters aren’t exactly known for their insight or common sense (or any idea about what is happening outside the Premier League). To hear them speak there’d been no other club in England to have received a points deduction (kept going in about Rangers and ‘other big clubs’. Derby or Reading never crossed their tiny minds. Bit like I remember Ian Wright going on Talksport and talking about Derby being a club with substance and people were treating us appallingly, during their Lampard to Chelsea two week w***-a-thon. alexxxxx
Points deductions make a mockery of the league. Been hearing more about Everton's plight and again it seems like some of the reason for the charge is an accounting disagreement about interest charges on loans for their new stadium between the league and the club. Where have we heard that one before? Edited November 18, 2023 by alexxxxx
Crewton
Meanwhile, Leicester and Leeds, those past giants of financial probity who are responsible for the introduction of automatic points deductions for teams entering administration, are planning to sue Everton for compensation. Eric the half a ram
Question, if the bigger teams, Man Cury, Chelsea etc, started getting scrutinised more closely, is that not increasing the likelihood of a breakaway Europe Super League, playing to its own rules? Like a kid on the park who picks up his ball and walks away from a game because he doesn't like the way it's going!!

Possibly into admistration? Those clubs will get a right welcome next visit to Merseyside if they pull the trigger on this. I've no love for Everton but really don't want them to be put through this s****. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12765089/Everton-NINE-POINT-deduction-administration-Burnley-Leicester-Leeds-compensation.html Crewton

secretsquirrel
If Man city got a points deduction of 50-I reckon they would stay up-probably have to be around 70 to guarantee relegation.

Man City regularly get 90+ points. They'd stay up with a 60 point penalty. But we are way off that. They have been charged, but they haven't been found guilty. ram59
This punishment of Everton shows up a massive flaw in the Premier League's rules. They have given Everton a 10 point penalty for making too high losses, but they welcome with open arms the likes of QPR, Villa, Bournemouth, etc, who all made illegal losses in the championship, in order to gain promotion to the Premier. Why aren't these clubs hit with points penalties either in the Premier or on return to the Championship? angieram, Crewton, Foreveram and 4 others
