hope the damage wasnt to bad. at least ur mum was safe

I've been there yesterday and today, the house had about a metre of water and mud in it, the whole ground floor is completely written off. A lifetime of memories destroyed which is the saddest part. At least she is safe as you say, when you read about the old lady who tragically died in Tapton in similar circumstances it puts things in perspective, if we hadn't managed to get there fairly quickly it could have been so much worse. Her neighbour rang the emergency services to tell them she was alone in the house and they turned up 7 hours later to see if she was OK!

Surprised no one has mentioned this on here today? Unless I missed it.

Anyone on here from Chesterfield/ Sheffield area? Crazy amount of rain today.

It's been reallybad here in Chesterfield today with almost every road across the town under water, closed or impassable. There are plenty of photos/videos online showing the scale of it. My 87 year old mum rang me from Clay Cross at 9am in a panic to tell me water was coming into her garden, by the time I got there 25 mins later the road was under water and waist deep in her house with her trapped upstairs. I managed to get her out with the help of a neighbour and it took me 4 hours to get her to my house in chesterfield. I'm not looking forward to what I'm going to find tomorrow when I can get back there!

    "Some people lie in football"

All eyes looked and fingers pointed , due to the timing of the comment, to someone involved in the Jordan Rhodes saga ..  shown around , deal in principle , didn't show for medical .... all gone quiet ..

Prime suspects on this forum were

    Rhodes himself

    Rhodes agent

Perhaps the fibs were closer to home and Warne had the rug pulled from under him by the person responsible for budgetary compliance and the goalposts moved ?

Makes sense to me at least ....

If it saved us from another inflated wage spent on an over the hill player with no resale value then the person responsible for budgetary compliance can only be applauded

Prince William refusing to go due to CO2 emissions and wanting to be green. Assuming he uses commercial airliners for long haul, he does know that the planes are still going anyway lol.

    Stupid move.

What a lame excuse. Good job all those foreign dignitaries and royalty didn't use the same one for his mother's funeral or his father's coronation or there would have been a few dozen of them rattling around in Westminster Abbey on their own

As useless as that fact is, I strongly suspect it will prove to be the only fact stated within this thread, as the rest of it is going to be very heavily influenced by supposition and speculation!  👀

Pretty much like every other thread ever then. At least we're consistent.

It definitely is for strikers, honestly don't see many other options than scouring abroad for cost-effective options. Premier League clubs have little choice. The UK market is so sparse that carthorses like Keinan Davis are being talked about in the realms of £5m - a goal every 366 minutes in the Championship and every 810 minutes in the Premier League. He's a player that I would struggle to get excited about in League One, nevermind in the Championship or higher.

There are players out there, of course, Notts County signed Macaulay Langstaff from Gateshead for £50k. He scored 30 in 47 for them and gone on to score 41 in 47 for Notts County. I would like to bet that he scores a lot of goals next season too. We've just not been a club who has been proactive in scouting players, take a look at Sheff Utd on the other hand - they signed both N'Diaye and Che Adams from non-league recently. Che Adams on our own back yard.

I hoped that things would change under the new ownership/management with regards to recruitment, but does seem to be similar trend - we've just looked at players from the Championship out of contract and who may drop into League One and got the ones that suited the system. Nothing wrong with that at all, that's not my point, but while we've been picking up Bradley, Nelson, Elder, etc. Barnsley have gone to non-league to find players and signed a few: Dallas, Lofthouse, Lopata. They may be bad signings who can't cut it, but I was hoping to see some creativity in our recruitment strategy this season, perhaps a couple of non-league/league two players with a bit of potential. We don't do too bad at recruiting for the academy, typically, perhaps we will see something from the lads we've picked up to play for our U21s but our recruitment for the first team, on the other hand, has been as bland as unseasoned chicken.

Barnsley are taking a huge gamble, they have lost good players from a team who narrowly missed out last season and replaced them with non league players. They may strike it lucky and unearth a gem but its unlikely that they'll all be like that. Dallas for example is 24 and the highlight of his career is a handful of games in league 2 before being shipped out to Solihull. He was OK in the National League last season but wasn't even Chesterfields best player imo, Dobra is far more exciting although his temperament needs work. Chesterfield had an offer on the table for him but his agent touted him to the highest bidder.

  7. I think the problem with these lists is that not only do they blur the lines between 'despised' and simply being not very good but they are a bit retrospective rather than reflecting attitudes at the time. My memory might be fading a bit but I don't recall much hatred for Robertson or even Burns when they were playing. Robertson certainly had a good relationship with the Popside and the dislike of Burns is more for the man he is now. The Forest thing wasn't such a big deal then as it is now, we were all far too busy hating Leeds, if we had signed an ageing Bremner it would have been a whole different ballgame. I might be looking back with rose tinted glasses but I don't remember the same level of animosity towards players back in the day although I would have feared for some of those names mentioned had the internet existed back then!
