Well they are top of League Two so we definitely can't expect to go there and be able to impose ourselves on the game.

Notts County are massive and we are simply not equipped to deal with their quality.

Ok, you eight listen up. Don’t concede. Don’t fanny around with it, hit the bloody channels as early as you can. Barks and Laingy what are your jobs? ‘Run fast and cross Boss’. Run fast and cross, good. Got it. Collo you get on the end of it ok. Thanks boys, now remember why we are doing this. Ok. Tactics over.  Sibbo, go get me a coffee. The rest of you go for a run.

  2. Haven’t seen the game yet, nor indeed the highlights package, but very disappointing that we didn’t have the wherewithal to beat a very poor team.

Also disappointing to listen to our manager say that he was concerned about being overloaded by Cheltenham’s midfield, and his clear instructions were to bypass a midfield battle and just get it out wide quickly to the wings.  We have Bird, Hourihane, Smith and Fornah. All good ball players. Surely, to god though those kind of players can be up to going head to head and winning against Cheltenham’s Rag, Tag and Bobtail. If our sole tactical aim is to hope NML gets a few crosses in and Collins heads it adequately, we are in for a continuation of what we have seen ever since Warne took over - chaotic, basketball type football, with points ultimately gained from such tactics only sufficient to end up around 6th or 7th position.

  3. I don’t hate Paul Warne, I don’t dislike Paul Warne, I just don’t rate Paul Warne and can’t stand listening to him. This isn’t a new thing for me, it’s how I have felt for about 5 years now.

I am now trying my very hardest to appreciate him, and results like that on Tuesday and away to Peterborough help me with that. If he gets us up this season I will acknowledge and enjoy the achievement, but I have said it a few times before that I think any broadly competent coach ought to be able to get this squad up this season. We have a strong squad in a very weak league.

However, I still don’t think whatever happens that his football is ever going to be particularly pretty or organised and for that reason I do hope if he does get us promoted we still consider replacing him with someone with a record of achievement in the Championship. If he fails for a second season he should be sacked regardless.

    Up the Rams!

Last night even before the game started we had it. Unrelenting moaning.

I find that all quite enjoyable. Part of the matchday experience for those who can’t attend, and aren’t in a ‘local’ where Derby County are ever likely to be a topic of conversation. Ignore it or engage in it. Don’t moan about it.

I don't care who the manager is, what the tactics are, those 2 chances which were handed on a plate for Wilson, how do you even explain not taking them?

I won't go as far as to we should be 2 up, Blackpool will feel they have had the ball in decent areas.

We should however be going in with 2 goals on the board. I'm not sure we'll get chances that golden again all game.

My flab is gasted. No wonder Warne has got no hair.

Wilson has 5 league goals in 6 years. Why is he playing so far up the pitch whilst Barkhuisen, Waghorn and Washington are on the bench?

Has to be wingbacks doesn't it.

Im calling it a 532 with NML playing off Collins - but yeah and one of the CMs given more licence to join the attack

I’m calling it a dog’s breakfast. We might win, but I don’t see it being pretty. I’m going to spend my tenner down the pub. Elayna, the barmaid, has a more interesting couple up top.

No we know little about DCs decision-making other than he had no qualms about removing an honourable man, with plenty of admirable character traits, who had stuck with the Club throughout the admin process, even turning down the Blackpool job (I know it was only Nixon that says he had an offer, but...).

We can imagine we know his reasoning in appointing Warne, but not much of his reasoning seems to be bearing fruit? He failed at Top 6 last season. His recruitment this season has been lacking. He seems mostly uninterested in our expensive Category 1 Academy. The football quality is questionable. But he has a long contract. So we'll see whether more decisions are made.

IMO Warne had a better squad last season, that doesn't mean he won't do better this season maybe. But there aren't many positives to keeping Warne - well there's a whole thread with I think one positive on it, his away form is better than Roseniors.

We don't know Clowes had no qualms, do we?

I agree up to this point there hasn't been much to support the Warne appointment. Just to confirm (which I am sure you know) I wouldnt have appointed him in the first place.

In respect of positives, I don't know how much Warne is respected and liked by his playing squad. If he is, that would be a very big positive, and perhaps give some reason for hope.

  8. Anyone who has shown experience of:

    1) Playing an attractive form of football, ideally 433

    2) Using players to their strengths, not just trying to shoehorn them into a formation.

    3) Using young players coming up through the ranks. No point having a Cat 1 Academy otherwise.

I don't maintain any interest in football other than Derby anymore, so I can't tell you who might be that man. Hopefully though there is someone out there who could come in sometime soon and make the difference (if Warne doesn't get a grip over the coming weeks).

Yes, yes very applaudable. But I repeat Clowes knows as much about appointing football managers as did Mel Morris, although Clowes has Pearce and Mel had Sam Rush! You didn't answer that point, just said that we'd now got Warne!

Yes, stability is a good thing, stagnation is not. You can change managers without spiralling wildly out of financial control you know?!

    #COYR

We still know little as yet about David Clowes decision making, but even a Warne botherer like me can see his reasons for going for him. He did have a CV with evidence to support he could get out of this league, and by all accounts he is a good ‘club man’. I recall Clowes put a lot of emphasis on researching him and admiring his man management skills, and whilst I would have kept Rosenior, again there was logic for sweeping the decks completely clean, and bringing in a new person to lift the general mood. Not sure that all merited a 4 year contract, but perhaps there are performance benchmark clauses in there covering years 3 and 4? Anyway, the point I am making is we might know more about Clowes decision making in the months ahead. I think his breath will already be on Warne’s back, because as a owner and a fan he will know there is not a good feel out there at the moment. Warne needs to start getting some results that’s the bottom line. He has in my opinion a squad that should finish in the top two this season. He needs to stop talking the talk, and provide evidence of his walking the walk.

The content is somewhat signposted in the title mate, irrespective of location 😂

Thank you for the insight, which wasn’t lost on me 👍 However, why is anyone interested in how Rosenior is doing? He is at the top of the Championship. We ain’t going to be there for a few years. More than happy to follow his progress in the Ex-Rams section.

  11. Happy with the win.

    Happy I didn’t watch it.

I am now thinking that might be the best way to approach this season. Check the scores at HT and FT and just watch the one minute Sky highlights package.

    Well done Collo.

I see we got another soft penalty this week. The referees in this division are getting so poor now that they can’t even distinguish which team is Derby and which team they should be helping.
