  1. This is a very funny thread, although brings back some bad memories of my own.

I took my kids to Butlins Minehead just after I broke up with the first Mrs I-Ram, so 20 years ago. I paid for a ‘Silver’ chalet, as Gold was too expensive. Jesus what a s******* it was. Mouldy shower, terrible dirty paintwork and carpet, and mattresses that when uncovered looked like they might have at some stage been used in an autopsy. It did make me wonder what you got for Bronze, presumably something akin to Alexei Navalny‘s final cell. I did get a discount after much discussion, and me sharing photos with them as to what I was going to send to the press, but we left on day 4 of 7 anyway. After 4 days of a nauseating and annoying young Stephen Mulhern, my ex-wife didn’t seem quite as bad after all.

  2. I should perhaps add, let’s not get into the same tiresome debate about Warne’s strengths and weaknesses. I am more interested to explore whether you think Clowes, or you yourself, would say he merited another 4 years based on his achievement.

  3. Paul Warne has achieved everything David Clowes has wanted to date it seems.

Warne now embarks on his next challenge, which is clearly more demanding.

    My questions are:

    1) Will Clowes in the coming weeks show full support for the job Warne has done, and the job he now has to do, by renegotiating his contract giving him and his team a new 4 year term to work with?

    2) How would you personally feel about it if Warne did now sign a 4 year contract. My instinct is that Warne currently enjoys about 80/90% positivity on this forum. If you were Clowes, would you restart the clock now?

  4. Too early to say before we have even assembled our squad, but I think it unrealistic to think anything better than bottom half of the table.

My guess is we will buy some solid performers, and have a competitive, fighting, spirit which might stand us in good stead particularly if we we were to be scrapping for points at the end of the season. I can’t see us having too much flair though, nor therefore be a good watch. Proper fans though will accept that I am sure.

Retain: Vickers, Nelson, Nyambe, Rooney, Bradley, Cashin, Fornah*, Ward, Wilson, Elder*, Mendez-Laing, Blackett-Taylor, Washington*, DBrown

    *Try to loan or sell

New contracts: Wildsmith, Forsyth, Sibley, Thompson, DRobinson, Collins

Release or loan ending: Loach, Adams, Bird, Smith, Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Gayle, Waghorn, John-Jules

Assuming we'll play a form of 3412 or 3421, that would mean we need the following: GK, LWB, CMx3, AM/Wx2, CFx2

A bit surprised you haven’t put an asterisk by Bradley? You have clearly seen more of him than me, but to me he seems shot. What have you seen that makes him useful in the Champ?

Walter Roulstone (1866–1953) was an English footballer who played for Derby County.[2]

William Roulstone was signed in 1886 by Sawley Rangers F.C. Very little is known about Sawley Rangers except they were founder members of the Derbyshire Football Association. Albert Williamson was only at Sawley Rangers for one season, 1886–87. Albert Williamson was on Derby County's books for the one season prior to the start of the Football League, 1887–88.[2][3][4]

Walter Roulstone made his League debut on 8 September 1888, playing at wing–half, at Pike's Lane, the then home of Bolton Wanderers. Derby County defeated the home team 6–3. Walter Roulstone appeared in 21 of the 22 League matches played by Derby County in season 1888–89. As a wing-half (20 appearances) he played in a midfield that achieved big (three–League–goals–or–more) wins on three separate occasions.[3]

He was the first player to make 100 league appearances with Derby County. His brother Frank was also a footballer. Although Derby County had had a poor season (1888–89), Roulstone was retained to play alongside the more experienced professionals being brought in during the close season in 1889. Roulstone stayed with Derby County for seven seasons leaving in 1894. He played 118 games becoming the First Derby County player to play 100 games for the club. He went to local non-league club Heanor Town in 1895.[5]

I knew you wouldn’t leave a Roulstone unturned.

  7. Based on what I have seen this season I would look to try and move on Washington, Fornah and Bradley even though they have contracts.   Fornah might get better, perhaps loan him out, but the other two have been on a downhill trajectory for a couple of years. Good character is not enough in the Champ. I would look to retain Collins though. One season. Still giving his all, keeps himself in good condition, chips in with important goals. A good back up but hopefully not even second choice No. 9 next season. God I hope we don’t go big for Michael Smith from Wednesday.

I'm fascinated to see how things play out next season. I feel/hope the style and control can come with better players and he will adjust.

I do find the City-style, backheels in your own box, way of playing pretty ridiculous and feel a solid defensive team can have success. I haven't seen much of the Championship this season, but speaking to a QPR mate, sounds like plenty of teams are trying to be like Pep.

We clearly need to bring in some better players, but also feel we have plenty of players who will be decend Championship starters and subs players..Wildsmith, Cashin, Nelson, Sibley, Nyambe, Thompson, NML, CBT, Smith, Wilson, Forsyth. Hopefully Adams and probably some I've forgotten.

It will be fascinating to see if he can adapt his tactics, and fascinating to see who he buys. I am pleased that you, and a great many, seem to think he will be ok. I wouldn’t be disappointed if you/they were right. But enough from me about Warne, certainly for a couple of months. After today, he deserves a break.

  9. Nice bloke clearly. Great interview. Excellent achievement gaining promotion. He clearly deserves the opportunity to take us forward next season. But his football approach still leaves me cold. I wasn’t aware but the Sky Comms said today that the players get a day off for scoring at a set piece. Sounds like a nice bit of man management, but it reinforces my belief that he is too focussed on set piece success and having fit scrappers prepared to win their share of second balls, than having a team that might play some decent football. Don’t give them days off - try getting them to pass to each other in tight situations. As I posted on the matchday thread, we looked very ordinary today. I actually said woeful at HT, but fortunately we did raise it a little second half.

Delighted of course to be back in the Champ, and really pleased for Clowes.

    Ok Bris

Not sure why you want to call me Bris? You can’t tell me we played well first half can you? If Bird hadn’t scored his goal many would be rightfully be bricking it on here. We look so poor with the ball, unless it’s from a dead ball. We are going to win, and we are going up. All great news. But we should be looking a lot better than this surely?

  11. Sorry to jinx this exciting day, but I am going to watch this live with Andy Hinchcliffe. My record this season is something like seeing us win once, draw three or four times, and lose about five or six. And we were rubbish when we won that one 😂.

Fortunately, we are at home to bottom of the table Carlisle, who have nothing to play for, and even if they did they are s****. Surely this is a stonewall certainty of a win!!

Come on Warney! Please entertain this half-fan.

    Up the Rams!!
