Far and away the best post in this thread.

I appreciate the need for stability but as with any job and company if expectations are not being met on a consistent basis it only makes leadership appear weak if they continue to tolerate it with no consequence. Clowes has values and I respect that, but he didn't reach the level of success he has secured for himself by running businesses on sentiment.

At some point, Warne has to produce. The clock is ticking.

Agreed. I don't go much (distance reasons) these days but have had season tickets in the past... have never booed anyone (even opponents, I think!)

But actually that contradicts your later point, because the "us" making comments here on the forum are not automatically the same as you or I when in the stadium. You and I have both agreed that our actions there are not necessarily 100% reflective of our feelings/views expressed here. Also the forum remains a relatively small subset of the overall Rams-following population, and on the basis of the poll David did not too long ago, there's a lot of us here who watch on Rams Player and don't necessarily go to so many games.

So yes, there will be some overlap, and yes things expressed here can influence matters (if we take our attitudes to matches and/or help fuel the fire more generally) but actually a lot of the imagined "toxicity" at games is independent of us. Even then, there'll be firestarters and it doesn't necessarily mean others will give it oxygen, but they might, and most likely if something inside them agrees that they've seen enough rubbish and they're not taking any more.

Yes, I do agree there are firestarters and when I go to away games (which is pretty regularly) there are some foul-mouthed gobshites who are absolutely toxic - and were when we were riding high in the Championship too!

It seems to be hip these days to criticise, or even to sit back and wait to be entertained. Support seems a lot less "active" than it used to be.

By the time he went we were decent and improving every season, had a young, committed and talented squad and had digested the after effects of Paul Jewell.

There was some utterly deranged stuff said during Nigel Clough's time, overall he handled tricky circumstances reasonably it wasn't until expectations from the ownership raised it became an issue for them. He was frustrating, stubborn and slow to develop the team...

Almost as if we had to ride out the rough times a little longer than most would have liked but were then rewarded with a few years of positivity and near misses. Perhaps we’re facing a similar sort of challenge now.
As much as it’s not pretty, if Warne and co continue to deliver the divisive performances/results then they’ll still end up moving on and someone else gets a turn, just not as soon as some would like.

There’ll still be a club,  Clowes has refreshed the infrastructure of the club and backed the academy process which will hopefully bear fruit in time (first team players and/or saleable assets). The club is in theory debt free and will no longer be subject to the agreed EFL business plans of the last 2 years, which might see a bit more investment in the side. We might (probably will) lose some players, we might have to ride out some more time out of the limelight, but we’ll come again in time.
I know it’s not what everyone else feels but that’s my stance, I’ll just keep rolling with it cause it gives me something to think about beyond work and domestic life. (I’m also aware I don’t have the financial commitment some of you do and am in no way belittling that). Just offering a different opinion to many who are annoyed by todays “statements”, one thing is guaranteed…Warne won’t be here forever, it might just be that we have the choice to make as to whether we can accept the short term and stomach it for longer, or not, and that is a personal choice that people have to make.

Now DC has given us his verdict (or somebody high up at least) we have no choice but to get behind the team. How is PW going to improve things though ?

DC’s ultimatum to PW.

1. Never play with wing backs again

2. Never play with two holding midfielders again.

3. Up the tempo and maintain it from KO til full time.

4. Pass and move and stop dawdling on the ball.

5. Stop hoofing it up the channels and play through midfield.

6. Teach the players how to cross, shoot earlier while concentrating on body shape.

7. Give the lad Brown a go upfront.

8. Where is the set piece specialism ?

9. Lose the bobble hat.

I don’t think that statement means a lot.

It could have a big impact on the players though. I don’t get the feeling that they all love this style of play and after all, it’s how they perform that will decide Warne’s future.

I thought the Stevenage third goal was a good example of players not arsed about playing for the manager.

Yet didn't manage it. He's still not managed it. If you think the fans will put up with another Nigel Clough... 😄

I can't see how they can work through any of this. The football has been poor for too long - how do we turn that around? Warne seems to me like he's tried everything he knows with the players he has. Would January make a difference? I can't see how it can - if we remember last January he failed to bring in a forward and has done the same in the last transfer window. Why is this? Do players not want to play for him - football is a very small community and players talk to each other.

The final straw for the club has to be supporter confidence - a club like Derby rely too much on supporter revenue and this will clearly dwindle and is doing very quickly - in fact, the last 7 days has shown the biggest majority now have no faith in PW and his team. And in the football world, you aren't going to turn that around unless we go and win 5+ on the bounce. Can we win 5+ on the bounce - you'd have to say, No.

I have to bend over backwards to get to night games, lose 2 hours wages in the process and drive too far to watch what is currently being served.

If we were playing well (and even losing) I'd still bend over backwards because the football is my release. But, I can't do that for how the team are playing right now and I've had a season ticket for 30+ years.

I don’t like what we are being served up. A big effort to travel for midweek games but I’ll do it. Just match your talk Warne. Want to out score teams then play some entertaining football! And I’m perfectly capable of getting behind the team for 90+ mins but still want entertaining football, even if that means Warne has to go

This situation is so disheartening after the togetherness and impressive support of the survival season. I have wanted Paul Warne to succeed, hoped that his football would be more exciting than Liam Roseniors’, and hoped the atmosphere would continue. Sadly none of this has been the case. I have seen glimpses of good football, but all too often it has been poor and unreflective of some of the players we have available. The responsibility for this can only lie at the managers door. The Exeter performance was better overall but the atmosphere still muted as if the majority of supporters were celebrating a win despite their own feelings that enough was enough!

On reflection I recall thinking that when Paul Warne got the job was his heart really in it…. but have supported him to this point. I do think however he now has the air of someone who feels he has made the wrong choice but is living with it, trying to put a brave face on, say the right thing. This is not good enough for Derby County we need to be playing football we are proud of and a manager who can provide this.

I don’t agree with this idea that it’s now our turn to get behind them and cheer them on.

I’m sure we all got into football because it’s an entertaining game. We pay money (be that for a ticket and cost of travel or travelling to far off places to be able to pay for RamsTV) which many of us struggle with at the minute, in order to go and be entertained and have that enjoyment.

The players, manager, coaches, etc get paid well to provide that entertainment. It’s not on us to mindlessly cheer each week, it’s for them to give us something to cheer about. We’ll sing and cheer and bounce if we’re entertained but it comes from them in my view. That has been missing recently, the entertainment has gone!

If the football is poor and boring then the atmosphere is likely to be negative and why shouldn’t it. Why should we accept paying money to be bored and frustrated for 90mins?
