It's roughly the same thing thing

Speeding and cheating on every wife and partner and being sacked from 5 jobs for lying and parting while the Queen sat alone in church at her husband's funeral. Like 2 peas in a pod.

We could bring in her husbands facilitated porn fetish passed off as incorrectly finding a webpage for a holiday to Paris. Till it happened again .  Or her links to something in the 70's facilitating something far worse.

This point is a real concern. Our squad was too small last season and he seems to want it to be smaller.

20 players is nowhere near enough depth

And i thought i was a worrrier lol

Think he said 20-22… 22 Is 2 for every position which i wager no club in league one has more than that number for any one position.

thats before u start considering the academy options too assuming the recruitment there can step up a little bit more now too

I never said that wasn’t the case? Of course it did, because Mel was a bamford. I’m not blaming anyone currently at the club for the mess.

But the fact remains we now have to rebuild the academy, which is a much slower process than rebuilding the first team. The new academy manager is a strong appointment, and I have faith he’ll get the job done. But it will take years, not months. No one is coming through for the foreseeable future.

You called them record breakingly bad.

Those boys did the best they could.

At the moment you are coming across as just about as suitable to judge Paul Warne as Harriett Harman was to judge Boris Johnson.

Liar liar pants on fire 😁

Just to add...I don't like Politicians...and that's the truth 👍

You really think 20 players is enough?

Or do you think our record breakingly bad U21 side is full of gems?

"22 isn’t really enough either. I generally say 25 is the ideal squad amount. Any major injuries and you’re ducked with only 22 players. With only 20 you’re ducked anyway, that’s ridiculously thin."

20-22 is core squad size, not players used over a season. U21/18 players would not be included in this figure. Neither would January replacements. I dount Warne is including a backup keeper or 3rd choice (Loach) in the 20-22.

We had a tiny squad last season? We still used 28 players in all competitions.

1 GK, 5 CB, 4 WB, 4 CM, 4 W/AM, 3 CF is 21 first team players. That looks perfect to me.

"We can’t rely on the academy as things stand, it’s a mess. There’s no quality coming through any time soon. The new academy manager will be sorting that out, but it takes time. I’d be surprised if anyone comes through for the next 3 years."

The academy as a whole has a lot of talent in it. I'd love to know your knowledge of all age groups for you to conclude the academy is a mess.

You're basijg your entire argument on U21 team results rather than individual performances. There are few who were in the U21s last season whilst still being eligible for the U18s.

A massive fault with the U21s last season was failing to play actual CBs at CB. I can't think of many games where we managed to field 2 of Chester, Rooney, Bardell, Solomon. Those 4 played a combined 1181 minutes in 20 league games, the equivalent to 13 games. We were reliant on first yesr scholars, CMs and full backs filling in. No wonder we conceded so many.

Of those who played at least 25% of the league minutes, 11 have left the club. Your argument is based on the performances of a lot of players who are no longer at the club.

I can count at least 10 players who will be in the U21 squad for 23/34 who I expect to breakthrough into the first team. Some as soon as this upcoming season, others will take longer due to needing to adjust to men's football first.

DRobinson and Richards had a taste of first team football in 21/22. DRobinson featured again in 22/23, with Bardell also appearing. Hawkins and DBrown made the bench but didn't get used.

Well..except that this ‘logic’ ignores the three teams coming down from the Champ 😎

Suspect that was entirely deliberate given Wigan have been deducted points & Reading are set to suffer the same fate. Only Blackpool of the relegated clubs are stable & given they are a well run, sustainable club, will likely aim for a gradual rebuild following relegation rather than throwing money at an immediate return. Therefore I would agree with Warne that Derby, Barnsley, Bolton & Peterborough would be the main contenders with a couple from Charlton, Portsmouth, Wycombe & Blackpool challenging also.  Get our recruitment right & we should be expecting a top 2 push.

To the topic of the thread - watched the interview which I think was well timed given there may have been some apprehension with McGoldrick leaving, Roberts signing elsewhere & no new signings announced as yet. Warne looked relaxed & I don't see why not - still extremely early in the summer and as others have mentioned, we'll probably be announcing signings when players return from holidays or their contracts expire 30th June. He's got a lot of support with a well-regarded Head of Recruitment in post, a supportive owner & likely a decent budget for this level - probably the best situation for a Derby manager since Lampard in June 2018.

Have no problem with his stated size of squad either - around 22 sounds fine assuming the quality of a second XI is comparable with first XI but we will need some signings into the Academy (likely Prem academy departures) to bolster those numbers if unlike last season, we suffer significant injuries or suspensions. Particularly important in attacking areas & given those players won't be known to opposition scouts, no reason why another Ebiowei or Plange couldn't emerge & chip with important goal/assists.

D Robinson will definitely get minutes in the pizza cup (I hope we try and win this even if it is a bit of fun). I’d imagine there’ll be at least one other from lower down that’ll earn minutes. It’s clear Aduroh isn’t a first teamer in Warnes mind but he’ll play papa John minutes too so if he wants a squad of 20-22 we’re already up to 23-25 in terms of players who will play.

Will Loach be here still? He won’t be counted towards the 20-22 so again up to perhaps 24/26 in terms of players to pick from.

GK

JW / new / loach

CB

new / Rooney*, Cashin/ new, new/ fozzy*

RWB/RB
new / Smith* / Rooney* / Aduroh / Barkhuizen*

LWB/ LB

new/ Fozzy* / Sibley* / Barkhuizen*

CM:

Bird/ Hourihane / new / Smith / Thompson / Robinson

Attacking Mid/10/ Support:

Sibley* / New / NML* / Barkhuizen* / Hourihane*

Forwards:

New / Collins / new / NML*

Players with * indicate players who played in more than one position under Warne at some point last season and gives an idea of the versatility we’d have. Something like the above would give us a squad of 26 players including Aduroh and Robinson who clearly aren’t first teamers and Rooney and Thompson who Warne hasn’t given much game time to. This is 22 players with those 4 on the edges. Around 10 new signings needed to win the league I reckon 😎

It's hardly crept into this thread.

It's turned up mob handed, kicked the door down and is now dancing in the kitchen drinking the wifes Baileys.

I was scrolling through and all of a sudden I see Boris Johnson being mentioned. Was trying to figure out how the topic even got brought up in a thread about Paul Warne 😭

Do you think Warne’s comment about players being a big fish in a small pond was related to Alfie May?

Thought it was an interesting point that PW is looking for players who in his mind can handle 25,000 fans and the expectations they have.

Whether it was direct or indirect it does technically apply to Alfie so I would say possibly, but I'd have to assume he was just referring to the expectations here being much larger as we undoubtedly are one of the biggest clubs in League One if not the biggest to be honest.

Read the thread yesterday but watched interview this morning. Good interview - hard to disagree with many of his points. We are recruiting at work for people to join our small close team of 6 and his points about personality are spot on. If we mess up we're stuck with them, and our whole team may change. Same for Derby. I like how he looks at all aspects when recruiting rather than just stats. Would love to see the players who holiday together's faces as his texts come in 🙄

Oh wonderful, arguing about politics/politicians is creeping into the main DCFC forum now 🙄

Sorry, possibly my fault but that old duffer Brailsford started it 😉

Lets get back on track. I suggested last night, after a good few beers, that I was an anti-Warne’r - that’s not entirely correct. I was against his appointment, I am not keen on his tactics, and I would rather listen to 5 hours of the Spice Girls, than 5 minutes of his pre/post game analyses.
However, he should be given this season (by me, and others who have similar doubts) to prove himself to be a better coach/manager than we have him down for. So come on Paul Warne!  Prove me wrong, buy some decent players, forge a decent attractive team, and get us promoted in style such that our next season in the Championship will be a very successful and competitive one too.
Time to start being a Cox.

so at one stage Warne wasn't even sure McGoldrick was going to play on last season !!  What was behind that ?

Didn’t he mean he wasn’t sure he was going to play on for the upcoming season? As in he was potentially considering retirement once the season came to an end, as well as considering a contract extension with us or moving back to Notts for his last hurrah

Possibly Rodrigues? Lots of stories out there that we were in for him conflicting with what our local press said (we weren’t), perhaps it was Warne subtly setting that record straight.
