Things that annoy me that should annoy me

What an effin'  mess!  ?

First reaction is the joy that everyone is "OK" (technically!)

Hope mum recovers fully and quickly... and get's back in the drivers seat asap.  Obviously I don't know her personal circumstances, but if it's not already the case, having the freedom to tootle about in the car as and when, can be a life saver in it's own right, particularly as we get older, and perhaps lonelier.

Doggy seatbelts?  Who Knew!  I confess, that's me, but not only does it sound a good idea, it seems in this instance it actually did it's job!
I lose count on a daily basis, as to how many dogs I see roaming around the boot space of an SUV!  I'm not officially a dog lover, but Grrrr all the same!  ?
So nice move, on that score @David ?

I do think these latest gadgets are excellent... "City Braking", "Adaptive/Reactive Cruise control" etc... but I do wonder (generally speaking, as opposed to referring directly to this specific incident) they may just make us all a little lazy?  A little less concentrated?
I must confess, I'm always using my adaptive cruise.  Partly to avoid exceeding the speed limit, and partly to ensure I don't... for whatever reason... go ploughing into the car in front!  I hasten to add it's never been needed, and never kicked in (other than gently and purposely slowing me down as I approach a moving car in front, as it's designed for).  I doubt this incident would have been avoided if the car behind had been fitted with such a mod-con, but I strongly suspect the impact would have been lessened... quite considerably, no doubt... as the car would have auto-emergency-braked before driver was even aware (as he obviously reacted too late, or not at all!)

Hey... I'm waffling!  Put that down to my excitement about the good news that both are relatively OK!  Hope you're pampering them both today.  ?

Drivers that are not paying attention on the road.

My Mum had just left her house in Stapleford last night, bringing my dog back having looked after him whilst we were away.

Less than 15 minutes into her journey, down the A52 traffic on the inside lane onto the M1 was slowing down, my mum slowed with the traffic in front of her down to no more than 10mph, is smashed from behind into a spin that took her into the next lane, then hit again head on and sent back into the left lane by another car.

https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/motoring/live-updates-serious-crash-causes-7104628

Thankfully both Mum and dog are fine and uninjured, a little stiff this morning and marks on her from the seatbelt, it’s not lost on us how lucky they both were.

My dog has his own seatbelt which probably saved his life, when the emergency services were collecting their stuff out the car, they had to retrieve his bag from maybe 20-30ft down the duel carriage way.

Could easily have been him. So many have dogs loose in the car, let this be a warning, a £10 belt that clipped on to his harness possibly saved his life. You can be the safest driver on the road, yet you cannot control what other cars are doing.

Whilst waiting for emergency services as she was trapped inside, car door hinges were buckled, my mum asked the young driver why he didn’t stop, his reply was “I couldn’t”.

Now unless he had a break failure, I can only assume he was distracted by a mobile phone, car radio or something as to put a car into a spin and causing that much damage at low speeds, he clearly was not paying attention and reacting to what was happening in front of him .

Witnesses have collaborated my mums version of events, fully injured, gap insurance the lot so financially she will be fine. Mentally though, not so much, doesn’t want to get behind the wheel again, shook her right up.

Not sure what’s happened to him, but surely a case of driving without due care and attention.

I'm glad your mum and dog are fine.

A good few years ago I was driving along a straight road and needed to turn right when a biker choose to overtake me, hit the side of the car and went straight over the top. The biker was in a nasty state (which saved him from being prosecuted) but I wasn't physically harmed at all. But, it shook me up a lot so I can only imagine how it must have been for your mum based on what you've said.

For what it was, I got a pretty sizeable amount in compensation for my damaged mental state, so your mum should expect a decent amount too. Whiplash, shoulder/back injuries and muscle pains, PTSD, etc.. List everything you possibly can which is relevant no matter how small. She'll e referred to a medical specialist of some sort to corroborate the claims, but it's better to claim and have them ignored than to not claim at all.

5.30pm, rush hour as well.

We went down to pick them both up, got my mum staying with us now for a few days, Jax got into the car and travelled like nothing had happened. Was a little shaken up at the time apparently, but no he appears to be fine now as is my mum thankfully.

Could have been so much worse, that’s the scary thing. Hit at a different angle in the next spin, that’s in hospital with injuries.

Is this the lad that crashed into your Mum?

If yes, The Police will investigate to whether he was driving while on the phone, The accident would have cost the emergency services quite a few ££££££££££££££££££££s, Highways also, As GOC has said, Get your Mum to the Doctors and get a written report, Not forgetting ruined clothes, A new 50 inch TV in the boot,  Rolex watch missing as it must have flown out when hit, Van Gogh painting of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies?

I'm sure I saw this reported on Central News, had no idea of who was involved. To hear @David inform us it was his mum and Jax has shaken me to the core. Thank god everyone is relatively ok. Very traumatic experience,  love to your mum and Jax, and belated congrats on your wedding.

Other dog owners. Never in one field has there been so many know-it-all know-nothings as that of dog ownership.

A "good morning" and quick sniff is all we need.

I don't have the time for, nor do I want to stop and make idle small talk for 10 minutes.

And I certainly don't need your 'friendly advice' or opinions on dog behaviour, training, diet and ownership for my dog!

The Verisure Burglar Alarm advert, I've never seen so many actors having neighbours being burgled or being burgled themselves, Even the fella that moved into a big house with big windows in a new area had one installed, Do your research man before you move.

I think I'll get one ?

Selling stuff second hand online. Had a guy wanting a refund/delaying payment because a jacket I sent has reached him creased. Not only are the creases clearly visible in the photos I advertised with, but it's less creased now than when I sent it!

Facebook selling is the best, stick a car on for £2000, would you take £30 and a guitar.

I've given things away on FB marketplace FOR FREE just to get them out of the house. Some of the messages I got back were utterly mental. The most annoying being the "I'll only take it if you can deliver it, I'm only 15 miles away" followed by a tirade of abuse when I say no.

Mate, it's free. Get it yourself or duck off. Simple as that you entitled clown.

Agree, FB marketplace is mental.  Stuck a "4 drawer 6' super-king divan bed - base and headboard only" on there a while back, advertised as such, but WITHOUT mattress, collection only.  Several photos attached. I kid you not, these are some of the messages I received:

  • Does it have drawers?
  • What size is it?
  • Does it have a headboard?
  • Do you deliver?
  • I see it's collection only, I've got a Honda Civic; do you think it'll fit?
  • I don't want the base but can I just have the mattress?

Next time I think I'll just make a bonfire.

  • 4 weeks later...
  • 2 weeks later...

Been with British Gas since PFP Energy went bust last autumn.

BG doubled my direct debit, despite me being £700 in credit at the time. Prices have gone up since April, obviously, but I looked at my statement yesterday and the BG app says I'm still £600 in credit, and helpfully points out:  "You're paying too much".

Tap on the link and the only options they give you are to make another one-off payment or increase the Direct Debit ?.
