I really hope the EFL gets removed and a new organisation put in place. Still no sign of salary controls, easy to understand FFP rules, removal of parachute payments, changes to how young player sales are made etc. The whole thing is still rotten and not fit for purpose, particularly in the championship.

There is plenty of things the EFL need to address, but it's not always simple. The one thing that the EFL really must balance is the ability for teams to be competitive which gets harder and harder every single year. The problem with parachute payments is that it's essentially a Premier League clause, not Football League, so you can forget about getting rid of that because you need the owners of Premier League clubs to vote on it.

The EFL needs investment. Honestly, I don't understand why they try so hard to restrict spending because the 90% of the spending is EFL club to EFL club.

Let's take Jack Marriott for example - we paid somewhere in the region of £2-4m for his services which in hindsight we shouldn't have done. However, Peterborough were able to use that money to sign Ivan Toney. Without us signing Marriott, they don't sign Toney and they don't flip him for 10-20x the profit.

You restrict teams with money to not spend money, the knock on effect is that you reduce the market value of football players because there isn't enough clubs spending money and the lower league teams essentially don't have a market to ship their best players. It seems they only look at the buying club spending the money, rather than the selling club receiving the money.

Yeah, football's problems go far beyond the EFL.....Premier League, UEFA, FIFA, Sky etc.

Basically, money - or, strictly speaking, the distribution of it - has destroyed the people's game.

(Don't get me started on Boris ?)

The distribution of it is a tricky subject. If you're one of the top 6 clubs, who are 80% of the value of the Premier League in international markets, then you would feel like you're doing plenty by sharing your TV income with the likes of Brentford, Burnley, etc.

There is no scenario out there where everyone is happy, that's for sure. The other 14 clubs in the Premier League at the moment are the ones who should be happiest with their deal!

I get that the EFL are rubbish, along with Q, but there is some truth in that statement, which they do state is in relation to Clowes acquiring the stadium. The sale of Pride Park was a challenge, it was owned separately by Mel Morris and he wouldn’t budge on the price due to the MSD debts, it was a potential deterrent to other bidders and definitely a complication to the clubs future as we had to prove to the EFL we had somewhere to play home fixtures.
Clowes acquisition of the stadium removes those barriers and puts him in a good position to take the club on himself or to facilitate a smoother transition to another owner (lease deal on the ground or selling it for a fee he’s happy with rather than the specific MSD/Mel set in stone figure though you’d assume that equals a loss of money so can’t see it happening, no one is that saintly.)

What I want to see in an EFL statement is some clarity around the immediate future, can we sign players? Are we able to extend contracts? Enough posturing and self congratulation, give us fans some hope and clarity.

Morris owning the stadium actually didn't represent a challenge though, it would have been the same if the club owned the stadium with the MSD loan secured against it. The big challenge (including the  Boro claim however spurious)  was in the level of liabilities the club has or had. The sale of the stadium will mean the MSD loan is cleared. This, plus Clowes other commitments should mean the club will be safe.

That's Redrow Homes on the shirts sorted, ready to go to the printers.

Does the Premier League have a hardship parachute fund for disabled football clubs that got relegated not due to team performances?

With Pride Park sold, does that £18m lean against it now disappear off the administor's books?

Excellent news coming out today. Getting the ground out of the clutches of Mel is incredibly important, hopefully we now never hear from that t*** again. At the very least, our short term future is secure again so we’re not in imminent threat of liquidation. And we finally appear to have a serious bidder with proper proven funds, unlike the clowns that have proceeded him, no pun intended.

Maybe things are finally starting to look up. The key now is to get a deal through before the end of the month, so we can out of contract players tied down.
