That’s all true mate and it isn’t necessarily fair to anyone we do sign.

But, the club made an active decision not to bring Martin back and whoever we bring in to replace him will rightly be compared to him because we could have had Martin.

Obviously there’s contracts/age to take into account but this isn’t a Martin fan club issue, whenever you let your top goalscorer go at any club and bring someone else in, the fans will compare the two. It’s only natural and healthy to hold the club accountable for their decisions. I wouldn’t expect people to stick their heads in the sand.

Obviously the Chris Martin debate has become its own monster over the past few years but it remains relevant to what’s going on at DCFC today and likely for the next couple seasons. The only way to kill it is to nail this signing and not have to look back at what could have been.

No no no no no

the club made an active decision to offer Martin a contract to stay , not one of us knows the detail of said contract in terms of length, money , playing time guarantee,

it could range from being an insulting offer to a bloody decent one,

martin chose to look for something he felt was better for him and rightly so,

we move on as fans non the wiser really in two camps

give Martin whatever it takes to keep him or offer what you think fair and stick to it within perhaps small bargaining

Whilst we haven’t even signed him I will reserve judgement on him until I see him play in a Derby county shirt

( unlike a Nick Blackman at 28 who could give nothing extra to what we already had)

I am not convinced that we always play our signings in their preferred positions. Players who are not doing so are rarely as successful with some notable suggestions.

It’s almost as if people thought he’d stay whatever the club offered as he “loves” the club. Not that he’s doing what’s best for him.

I was sad to see him go but you are exactly right. You have to draw a line somewhere or else you quickly end up in the mess we found ourselves after the 15/16 window.

If I'm being honest this window feels like the first window in a hell of a long time where we've gone about our business in a well thought out manner. We've signed 6 first team players for what? Somewhere less than 5 million ? And most look like they will end up being good signings to me in positions we needed to either fill or add depth.

Past performance is no guaranteed indicator of future growth.

Derek Hales:-

Charlton 73-76 72 goals in 129 games

Rams 76-77 4 goals in 23 games

Hammers 77-78 10 goals in 28 games

Back to Charlton 78-85 76 goals in 191 games.

Best forgotten at Derby, all-time great at Charlton.

Funny old game, football!

His first one against Blackburn in the FA Cup was a belter but best forgotten after that.

Know how many goals he scored in his first 55 championship appearances? 8

not exactly spectacular, however he went on to score bag loads for us and a firm fans favourite. Davis hasn’t got many goals yet but he’s 22 he’ll come good if we get him. Villa fans really rate him too

Some do but as has been said on here, some don't.

Joswiak flies down the wing, crosses into the middle, Davis muscles the defenders out of the way, Marriott picks up the loose ball.

1-0 Derby. Simples ?

Jozwiak crosses.

Davis lifts Marriott. Marriott heads in.

So many possibilities!

Scored one while wearing the red shirt of Derby against Colchester in the cup. Still the owner of the greatest ever match programme interview ever.
