    Yeah.  Fair do's.

But is the reason that it's never been as popular simply down to the ease of which it can be spread around the planet?
We had The Green 'un, the Sunday papers, local wireless, and eventually the odd highlights show.  Live FA Cup final was about the limit... but half the households either didn't have a telly on which to watch it, the aerial had blown down, or they didn't have a coin for the rental meter!

Is it more popular because it's better?  Or because of what the youngsters refer to as "The World Wide Web"?  🤷‍♂️

Yeah I'm sure a lot of it is down to the new media and the globalization of the game.

The standard of elite football is objectively "better" than it ever has been, and that may well be a contributing factor, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's more entertaining.

To counter this my 12 year old grandson knows pretty much all the Premier league players, who they play for and how much they cost. His mates probably do too.🙄

That's a fair point, in all honesty.

I'm sure many... if not all... of us would have been the same at that age.  I could probably still name the two teams for each FA cup final over a decade back in the day.
At least recognising and appreciating the top players throughout my teens was certainly a thing.

Maybe it's not football that's changing as much as we may think it is?  Maybe it's us fans that are changing (through age, I guess)?   🤷‍♂️

I completely understand the reasons why people are becoming disillusioned with football.

But, objectively, I'm pretty sure it's never been as popular (I don't have the stats to hand but I'm sure I saw an article on it the other day). The level of interest in the Premier League, for example, is absolutely insane. Not to mention the thousands (probably tens of thousands), of podcasts, Youtube channels, etc, that surround it. And the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Twitter accounts engaging in a ludicrous volume of football discourse every single day.

The quality of media has also really increased IMO. I found this episode of Gary Neville's new show an incredibly compelling watch.

I think the game is naturally changing with the changing generations. It's just a shame that it's coinciding with sportswashing and the like.

Bit heavy in here, innit!  😲

Anyway... What I'd like to know... not being into this sort of thing... is when they used to tweet, re-tweet etc, what do they do now?  Do they re-x?  Re Cross?

Surely tweeting is a thing of the past now, so what's the term nowadays?  🤷‍♂️

I know it doesn't actually matter, but it actually does!  👀

    "Post" and "re-post" I believe.

The whole Twitter thing is frustrating. I think you need the odd mad b****** like him to do crazy stuff like SpaceX and Tesla. But he's spending so much time making the best social media platform much worse (in my opinion) and increasingly moving towards the right that I can't really look past it. He obviously has his supporters on Twitter/X, but I do think it's tanked his reputation significantly.

I wonder whether, deep down, he regrets ever getting involved with it.

Probably embarrassed about the telling his dad bit and it getting back.  As he was subbed, I'd go with Gregory.

Hmm, knowing Gregory's 'form' for b******* I'll go with Grealish's version.

Undr the Cosh is entertaining, but it's full of made up (or at least wildly exaggerated stories) from guests.

(I could never get my head around his hatred of pink. Red yes, that was obvious, but why pink? 😀)

I hope he wouldn’t mind me saying this, but he did tell me the reason when I was standing with him at (I think) Plymouth away.

He said he didn’t like pink because it’s a “girl’s colour”, but he didn’t want to say it publicly out of fear of offending @angieram!

I will always remember two things. One, just how many people came over to him to say hello and have a quick chat. I think a testament to how well liked he was, not just on the forum, but by those at the matches too. Secondly, his unwavering belief and passion. I remember him slapping the badge on his chest at half time, telling me not to give up on them because we will win, and then at full time, with immense delight, ‘I told you! I told you! They will never let you down!’

I was one of the people who said hello to him at Leeds away. It was the first time I ever went up and spoke to him in real life.

He was adamant that we would turn it around. And, for once, his (some would say blind) faith was justified.

Forever glad I went to say hello to him that night, as every subsequent interaction with him over the years was an absolute pleasure.

Maybe they should have asked first? Twonks.

I would have thought they had to ask in order to get access to the ground on a non-matchday?

    Edit: They did

That's the Derby way thought? Reject players when they're cheap/free, sign them for big money, then give them away/pay them to leave. We need to learn how to play the market like Brighton, Brentford or Peterborough. Buy low, sell high.

I completely agree, but we're a million miles away from being able to do that with our current setup. We need a complete restructuring of the club IMO, as we're currently being run like something from the 90s.

Of course, the most important thing is that we're being run as sustainably as possible, and I have complete faith in Clowes on this. But if we're going to progress, we need to modernise. There were some positive noises around this at the recent fans forum, so fingers crossed.

Manning is a strange one. Pompey had a look at him as their potential manager about a year or so ago I think and basically said "he wouldn't stay long enough for us to appoint him" ie. He would jump ship for a higher job the second it was offered.

Gets teams playing decent football, although his mk dons side were comical trying to play from the back, gave away a goal easily every single game and were very very soft centered.

He strikes me as someone who has ambitions to get "to the top quickly" almost a pound land Graham Potter and realised early on that a style of play was very very important to this and getting the media in particular to parrot this information is important to building a profile.

He has certainly left Oxford in a much much better place, with a stronger squad and infrastructure in place so he must have been doing something right.

If he does well at Bristol fully expect him to jump to a lower prem team/ fallen giant in the championship in about 12 to 15 months.

Tbf, I saw an MK Dons fan on Twitter saying that he had the chance to jump ship when he was managing them and didn't take it, then things turned to poo.

Graham Potter played expansive football at Brighton. His first two seasons there wielded similar points and position to that of Chris Hughton (41 points and 16th spot), but the GD was much better and the foundation were then built for their top half finish in his third season. Potter’s football got him the Chelsea job.

Pochettino was similar at Southampton. His football got him the Spurs job.

Eddie Howe’s football at Bournemouth got him the Newcastle job.

Nobody is going to look at Forest under Cooper, getting 25% possession at home, having the worst XG in the league and thinking yeah this guy looks a good fit for a Tottenham or Chelsea. He is doing brilliant at Forest in the same way Hughton did at Brighton and Dyche did at Burnley, except Cooper has had a far bigger budget than those two.

I’m not advocating for Forest to sack Cooper. From a business sense, you could argue he almost guarantees PL survival (similar to Hodgson, that’s why Palace went back to him).

But there is no future for Cooper above this current level and the same goes for Forest while Cooper is in charge. So yeah, get used to percentage underdog football, lower PL finishes, only 9-10 wins every season and negative GDs.

Different times I know but I guarantee Forest under Cooper won’t reach the heights of Derby under Jim Smith. No chance.

What kind of football were his England kids playing, do you know? Genuine question.

    Interstellar

Watched it with the kids, their first time.

    Chuffed that they loved it.

The narrative gets lost occasionally and you have to suspend belief to enjoy it completely... but bloody hell it's an epic film that is just jam-packed with ideas and emotion.

Ironically it seems to bend time so that it feels very slow-paced as you watch it and then it ends... and you realise you have experienced and felt so much that you can't quite take it all in.

    9/10

Best film I've ever seen. Incredible.
