Caught a few highlights earlier and there was a match covered by BBC 3... Zambia vs Morocco.

But what a poor looking tournament. Reminded me of a world cup c 1982. Sparse crowds, low excitement, cagey football.

Then I saw that it's held every 2 years, not 4. Why is that?

It's great to follow the mad moments and storylines on Twitter. You get barmy stuff happening in AFCON that you don't get in other international tournaments. But I don't think I'd ever sit down and watch it.

I’m in. The universe is definitely telling me to go. Even the nice lady in the car park let me in without having to pay for parking. The universe wants me here for a reason. Hopefully ti witness something spectacular.

im not sure if my wife wants me here though. I’ve got radio silence from her. I’m not sure what reception I’m going to get when I rock up at 1am.

I’m accidentally in reading. I’ve been working here today. Didn’t even realise the match was on this evening. On my way home, but need a charge. The first charger I’ve gone to is taken, so the second charger I navigated to happened to be outside the stadium. And then it hit me that the match is on today

my wife is expecting me home in 3 hrs. But this feels like fate is telling me I have to go to the match.

You are, when you are saying though that "we should support them", it works both ways, especially when you aren't even there.

Had you said you'd support them fair enough, but your trying to advocate that  we should support the disruption, which imo is not what the majority of fans travelling down tonight would want.

    Fair.

I take it you're not going to the game then. There is one thing drawing attention to their plight, another disrupting a game in which fans have paid money, taken time off work etc...

Am I not allowed to have an opinion regardless?

I've been to more than enough away games to understand the commitment it requires.

They aren’t going to save their club by bringing it into disrepute.

I don't see it as bringing the club into disrepute because I don't think they're doing anything morally wrong. Others may disagree of course.

One thing it has done is bring far more attention to the situation. I knew the fans were dissatisfied, but I only realised how bad it was getting when I saw them invading the pitch.

Now, I'm not going to see that and be able to save the club, but far wealthier people than I may do. And it has multiplying effects too - I'm sure the national media are more likely to pick up on the situation when the fans invade the pitch, and that spreads the news further still.

Any attempt, really, we went through horrendous times and never once threatened to get a game abandoned.

Doesn't mean our way was the only way though. Like saying the only way to protest against injustice is to do it in a way that inconveniences nobody.

If it was the difference between my club surviving and going to the dogs, I'd do it every single time. I don't blame Reading fans one bit for doing everything they can to save their club.

Am currently writing a book on AI and am curious about the forum's views. Do many people on here use the new generative capabilities? Do you use other manifestations?

I use ChatGPT-3 fairly regularly to help with work. Mostly to help me come up with new ideas, tweak things and find answers to questions faster than I can on Google.

Do you think the world will have changed much in the next 5, 10, 20 years?

Yes, but not sure on timescale. Based on what people much smarter than me are saying, I would expect the effect of AI to be revolutionary.

What are your hopes and dreams for it? What about your fears?

It should increase productivity massively and may allow for some future universal basic income scenario. Primary concern is what happens if we create a monster without realising (Sam Altman's bullishness in the face of people expressing caution worries me a little). Also the potential for life to be a bit meaningless if a lot of the population don't need to work.

Deeney's biggest problem is his massive ego. Plenty of managers dish out scathing attacks on underperforming players, but it's kept in the dressing room. Deeney did it publicly because he absolutely had to let everyone know that his awful performance as a manager was the players' fault and not his own. He can't even claim that their poor play and poor attitude came as a shock. He's been playing for them all season, so he knew exactly what he was dealing with, chose to take the job anyway, and then started whinging immediately.

    Yep.

Seen a load of clips of him on podcasts recently and he just comes across as an egotistical, arrogant bell. I find this all quite funny.

    Men Up on iPlayer.

Viagra clinical trials start in Wales in the 80s with a bunch of guys all getting the opportunity to deal with their diabetes caused impotence by taking part.

It was an easy enough watch, but ultimately, I was a bit bored, and the jokes (It's not a comedy per se, but very lighthearted) were all a bit predictable.

Mrs Badge enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

Napoleon - For balance, I love Ridley Scott's movies, or lots of them at least. Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, I mean I could die happy having made any one of those films and there are others, but sadly, Napoleon is not one of them. It's epic, that I concede and as always with Scott, it is beautifully filmed, but for all its grandeur and sweep, it found it completely hollow and unrewarding.

...but so what if you didn't stay up? There's no great shame in it. If you can't afford to stay up without cheating, or find a way to compete above your budget then that's just the way it is.

We've both completed 120 seasons, with 50.8% of Derby's in the top flight, 47.5% of Forest's. That to me says what our natural level is.

There's little reason you couldn't find yourself back up there soon afterwards if managed correctly. Coming back down to the Championship with a load of parachute payments, keeping hold of a few players who show themselves capable of making the step up and 'going again', evolving the squad over time, buying well, is an acceptable method of natural growth. Not easy but doable.

Instead you (not you specifically) acted like Forest had some god given right to compete in the Premier League at the first attempt, despite a 20+ year absence.

Luton have taken the opposite approach to Forest (perhaps out of necessity), and I'd back them to go straight back up next season if they go down and keep Edwards (which may be a hard task), or find a good replacement.

Why would it matter - in the Championship we are probably going to have less of the ball.   Now if Rosenior was manager it'd be different but with Warne whilst we may not just hoof it we aren't playing tika taka.

Yawn. third place on goals scored and he still wants the manager out. What sort of supporter are you?

    1) Where did he call for Warne out?

    2) Is he wrong?

Has the Dark Side got a solid light blue triangle in the middle of the vinyl.  Careful if it has, could be 350-400 quid in good nick.

Beatles Revolver and Rubber Soul.  Only 'experts' mistakenly think Sgt Pepper was their best effort

    Not solid, unfortunately.

I've gone through the whole Beatles catalogue. Definitely want to get all the vinyl versions, but will be prioritizing stuff I haven't sat down and listened to before. George Harrison's All Things Must Pass is one I want sooner rather than later.

Genuine question then: do you think stature as an ex-professional player is a more important qualification for the role of pundit, than being able to speak eloquently about football?

Just wondering why the people providing commentary and analysis need to be ''relevant''? I'd much rather hear a complete nobody provide tactical insight where I learn something, than I would watch someone clumsily stumble through cliches, who's only there because they used to be a pro...

I agree that it's often far more insightful listening to a tactical expert (e.g. Michael Cox) than, say, Michael Owen.

There are exceptions though. Gary Neville's new series, Stick to Football, is absolutely brilliant, and a lot of it is Neville, Carragher, Keane, Wright and Jill Scott talking about their playing days.
