I reckon that's how DC will view it as well.

It hasn't been pretty this season but the primary aim is to get promoted. If we can do that by strengthening the squad (which we haven't really been able to do that much up until now) and really going for it next season then, DC will stick. 

I think it's inevitable that there will be some drop off in attendances (and ST sales), which must be in DC's mind but, my guess is he's thinking it won't be significant enough to result in sacking PW. I get what you're saying about a fresh mindset and personality in but who could we attract that would satisfy those disheartened with the prospect of another season in league 1 and no guarantee of promotion? A new name might put a few more bums on seats next season but, unless a new appointment resulted in promotion, a change of manager might just set us back another year.

In short, I reckon it comes down to how confident DC is that PW will get us promoted next season. I'm sure he is aware of the fans frustration and likely drop off in ST sales but my guess is he's estimated the drop off won't be too significant and attendances will pick up if indeed we are doing well next season.

If we don't make the automatics, and we don't win the play-offs then I hope we get rid of PW and replace him with a new manager who has us playing attractive football, regardless of the fact that this will see us routinely being turned over 1-0 to a last minute winner from an opposing team who have parked the bus for 93 minutes  - leaving us mid-table, but with excellent xG stats.

I was just thinking this.

Given thar we probably won't have the money to compete with most clubs at championship level (how times change), is it better to be in and around it in League One than being in that tedious race to get to 50 points and breathe a sigh of relief?

Think there is only a small section of fans that attend games that are on this forum,so really the mood cant be judged on here for the majotity of the fans.

From what I’m told, Clowes absolutely loves Warne and wouldn’t sack him within the term of his contract, no matter what happens. HOWEVER… he’s about the only one at the club who feels that way. Many other senior figures lost faith in him long ago. In fact, I was told the other day that Warne is likely to resign at the end of this season irrespective of promotion, such is the strain of those other relationships.

I should have added @Millenniumram: I have no idea how reliable either you or your source are but, if I was a betting man (which I’m not) I’d doubt it enough to offer you a bet that PW won’t resign if we get promoted.

Not sure - apart from before home games when he seems to really like Steve Bloomer's Watching - he doesnt seem overly enamoured with us/the club but he perhaps hides it well

I believe so yes, not name dropped but there’s certainly indications that the signings of Washington and Bradley in particularly were essentially “forced” through by Warne, even though others had their reservations. Think the way those signings have turned out won’t have done Warne any favours in the regard.

I mean I’m a random guy on a football forum, I doubt anyone will believe me, and nor should they probably. Just adding to the conversation around whether Warne will stay or go.

It’s not like he’s told anyone he’s definitely leaving btw, just the impression someone I know has links within the club has about his future. Nobody knows what will happen at the end of the season yet, so to be honest It’s probably not even worth discussing at this point in time.

Have our expectations as a club been eroded so significantly that we should now consider playing at the top end of League One as acceptable?

Not for me, not a chance. Aim high.
