That's not really the point though is it? I've argued Warne has a histroy of choosing older players and failing to get reasonable money in on a consistent basis for the players he did sign. Peterborough, with a similar budget somehow manage to sign younger players and sell them for large amounts. If Peterborough can do it, then we should be able to too. The problem here is a manager unwilling to focus on youth - whether signing or bringing through from the academy.

Peterbrough don't just sign forwards to sell on for big bucks. They've also started bringing through players from their own academy - Edwards, Burrows and Jade-Jones are starting every week. One of them is a LB and another a CB.

Sorry , wasn’t disagreeing with you it was just an observation that Peterborough seem to base everything on maximising the young players they scout in terms of setting up the team to showcase attacking players who invariably go for most money👍

There are other factors why we haven't seen as much of the youth.

I get the want to solely pin this on Warne, and his track record doesn't speak volumes to want to use them- leopard, spots, etc. - but it can be hard to shift that mindset when we've tasked him with finding near immediate league success.

A lot of the lads in the u21s were rushed from the u18s as a knock-on from the admin exodus, and have only had half a season at that level. Not only that, but there's been a lot of change in the academy hierarchy. That'll take it's time to settle.

We're still in rebuild mode as a club. Can only use that for so long, yes, but it doesn't exactly scream the most stable environment to safely develop these players - especially when the fans have the expectations that they do right now, can you imagine the reaction if Warne throws in a young player and doing so loses a game?

And more excuses in the summer.

Have you seen how many players are out of contract? Total rebuild needed. How can anyone expect us look good until 7 months in?

promotion or not,i for one do not want warne involved in rebuilding our squad.we now are down to our last asset in cashin,we cannot afford any more sicknotes or failures,we need someone with nous and connections, and respect in the football world

Which is understandable if they were being left out of the first team squads so they could play in the U21 games. However, more often than not they're left on the bench for when we go "3 or 4 up". Except the times we have been 3-0 up they've still been left on the bench. They also go unused in the cups.
DRobinson - 4 cup games on the bench and not used and left out completely for 3 cup squads. Left on the bench for Carlisle (2-0) and Barnsley (3-0).
DBrown - last minute sub in 1 cup game, 17 mins in another, but an unused sub in 5. Left on the bench when we were hoping to get more than a point against Lincoln (we only used 2 subs)

Fans are typically more patient when youngsters are put in the team. Warne could even use it as a reason why he needs more time. Stickign with his expereiecned players it's all or nothing -fail and he's sacked. If he introduced the likes of DRobinson and DBrown into the team he could point to that and say 1 more season and this squad will have improved and be enough to take us up.

Because it's part of his job. Why do you think Clowes is still spending millions to fund the academy? No one other than the manager can make the decision on playing our academy players or not. If they aren't gmaking the step up to the first team then Clowes is wasting millions every year.

Unfortunately you can't prove that. Clowes may have instructed him that promotion was the priority, even at the short-term expense of the academy. Not sure I'm comfortable making big assertions like this without a shred of evidence either way. Not saying you're wrong but this kinda thing is so far behind closed doors that we really don't know.

Any guesses who the striker is that was nearly about to sign for us on loan. A young lad from a championship team on loan and has scored this season in the championship ?

Wouldn’t have been Ennis then because he hasn’t scored for Blackburn!

Listened to warnes interview about not getting a striker that's better than what we have fair enough we haven't got the money to waste on players but surely there was a decent enough striker lower down in the league to get for not alot of money like Smith from reading they are desperate for money they would of sold him

Reflecting on the transfer window overall, I don’t think we should be totally negative.

Over the last decade our transfers have always smacked of short-termism. While we haven’t signed the striker we were hoping for, the signings we have made have been purposeful, shrewd and well-considered.

The consolidation of the squad, and the football club as a business, will likely require us to make measured signings that we can be confident will improve us long-term.

If we need to forfeit signing a Smith or Gregory now to be in a position to take a more proactive, potential-focused transfer strategy in a couple of years, then I’m all for it.

Furthermore, from a practical squad management angle, players like Collins, NML, Hourihane, and Korey Smith are all over 30, have played a huge number of minutes this season, often playing whole matches, and could have done with some more rotation. We've certainly seen fatigue and injury as a result. Smith played the full 90 on 13 occasions before he got a knee injury.
