Reflecting on the transfer window overall, I don’t think we should be totally negative.
Over the last decade our transfers have always smacked of short-termism. While we haven’t signed the striker we were hoping for, the signings we have made have been purposeful, shrewd and well-considered.
The consolidation of the squad, and the football club as a business, will likely require us to make measured signings that we can be confident will improve us long-term.
If we need to forfeit signing a Smith or Gregory now to be in a position to take a more proactive, potential-focused transfer strategy in a couple of years, then I’m all for it.
