I dont think a 4 year deal for a 23 year old who has joined for free & likely to be a relatively low wage (due to restrictions) is how you get into a mess. Chances are if he does well, we end up offering him a new contract on a higher wage anyway therealhantsram

Sparkle
Welcome to Derby county - no idea if he is any good at all as I have never seen him play or heard his name mentioned in any game
BucksRam
Happy with this. On paper this looks to be a good signing. Obviously we've had these "on paper" ones before but hopefully he'll give us that extra drive from the midfield we've been lacking. Good age too - experienced for this level and should hopefully have the legs too unlike one or two of our somewhat more mature players who are a bit slower and fade in the last 20. Looking forward to seeing him in action - suggest we probably need to give him a few games to settle before we judge. SKRam

Surely that's much better tactically than telling fans but also the opposition that these deals have been done? Use every advantage you have. Animal is a Ram
These days longer contracts are only really used for stretching ludicrous fees over long periods of time. Chelsea, case in point. I understand the point of the security, but then you get cases like Anya.

Signing a promising young lad for free on a longer contract isn’t the same as that. I’m hoping they’re being cute and that Forests sell on clause only lasts for as long as the contract he signed so after 2 years they’ll try and renew and any resale value will purely be ours. Gee SCREAMER !!
Effectively. any young player will only sign a 2 yr deal for fear of being trapped playing Accrington till they're 25. Worst case scenario they do badly enough to get another mid table League 1 move. Other side of the coin it's a better contract if you excel and renew in a year or a move with 12 months on a contract that a selling club will be willing to negotiate fee wise or they go on a free. Macintosh
I may be wrong, but I think the restrictions set by the EFL limit any contract to two years, or extension of.
