Local Radio being destroyed - no more Sportscene.

I feel like the BBC does a reasonable job in difficult circumstances. With a remit to cover areas not commercially viable, they output coverage of local news, minority groups, non English coverage of regional and small uk nations, educational output, children's TV, specialist output like scientific programs, and more.

Those people who suggest advert driven programming, expect more like ITV than BBC. Dreadful output driven by audience share. More love island, because vacuous idiots are cheap. Less niche output, more mainstream stuff.

As for the overpaying for talking heads, that's the market they operate in. As was mentioned elsewhere, the other channels pay far more for the on screen talent such as Ant and Dec. You might object to MacEnroe being paid handsomely, but few people can offer his kind of insight.

I'm sure the BBC waste money but the examples aren't great. Sending someone to Wimbledon from Derby? Could cost some petrol and a night in a Premier Inn. Hardly earth shattering.

I like the BBC, despite their centrist bias.

Wait!  WHAT????

What is it with you this week?  First you just blurt it out that Elvis has died... with no consideration for people's sensitivities... Now this!  I'm stunned... Stunned, I tell yer!  When the hell did this happen?   ?

I just hope you don't blurt out any more shocking revelations between now and when Santa visits.  I doubt my heart will cope!

It's disgraceful isn't it? I'm so shocked that I'm going down to Woolies to treat myself to a bag of Pick n Mix and then nip round to C&A for as new pair of polyester underpants.....

Not sure all the local radio presenters being made redundant would agree with you especially when their budget is a fraction of the cost to run the BBC.

Local radio is a lifeline to many older people who would probably never use any other service as well.

Cutting back on local radio to pay for minority TV programs is a bad example.

Get rid of top ten earners in the BBC halve the wages for the other top earners all are replaceable and stop paying stupid money to guest presenters this would help save local radio.

I knew a woman who used to shop at C&A for her knickers...so she knew which way to put them on.

Technology moves on. You don't need to go to the library anymore. Derbyshire libraries do give access to a good app though that lets you access loads of different magazines, etc though, but still no need to physically go to the building. And 35 is a bit of a random age to pick - a good chunk of that age range will have grown up without the internet, etc and would probably still have gone to libraries, much like myself, if they wanted to read something but couldnt buy it.

As for the BBC I don't really care if they disappear. I don't watch or listen to anything other than the football and I don't pay for the tv licence either since I don't need it.

If you are watching live football on TV or any streaming channels, you still need a licence even if you watch or record the EFL round up as it is viewed as being shown live.

I agree with the first bit, but a highlight show or post match full match view of the match that’s not been recorded by you wouldn’t require you to have a licence I doubt.  But like you say, if you record it yourself you would need a licence.

Its down to them to prove you’ve done it though, you don’t have to let the investigators in your house if they come knocking.

You don’t have to let them in unless they have a warrant from a court which they usually don’t have on the first call. If they do get a warrant then they have a legal right to enter.

Don’t they have to catch you watching live tv? I have no idea, maybe they can check download history?

Are live x rated chat rooms classed as needing a licence?

asking for a friend.

I was under the impression that all they needed, was to prove that you had a piece of equipment (tv) capable of accepting BBC tv signals, unless you could prove that it had been disabled in some way. Even when watching i player on your laptop, you need to declare that you have a tv license. I used to have a little workshop which I kept getting letters for me to declare that I had no tv, when I refused to reply, I was threatened with an investigation. Every 2 years for many years, I went through the same process.

Nostalgia won't save the BBC; we will watch a slow death of just about everything to do it with it over the next 20 years. I haven't watched terrestial TV in years which is part of their problem as I'm not alone. I have a RamsTV subscription which I consider ample coverage of the club, so even pay-to-view at a club level has caught up with it there. The reality is ever greater numbers of us pay to watch the content we want (as opposed to pay to watch what we don't) and the BBC can't rely on it having a monopoly courtesy of there being little choice. There is a lot of choice now and they're struggling to adapt. Sad but the world is moving on.
