Players do develop over time and experience of playing in real football

People always seem to underestimate this, some players have the potential but can't show it without game time. They often look like poor players whilst in this phase of their career, and need looking after to get over it.

The lad is doing well, maybe he has grown up a bit and realising what his role is and let’s be honest if we didn’t already know him we would be looking at him and suggesting maybe getting him in the future - hopefully we have a sell on with Swansea and hopefully if we did it hasn’t been sold off by the administrators

Main issue was with him was two-fold. Firstly, he was tall so looked like a central striker. Secondly, only thing a large number of fans knew about him was his goals tally in the academy so presumed he was a central striker. He wasn’t a central striker and was constantly misjudged as such when it wasn’t his fault. Shame all round, especially as a Derby lad, but suppose what we got for him may have kept us going.

Some rumours he's going to be recalled by Swansea. Supposedly Ipswich bidding £1.5m for him too.

Hope he’s recalled by Swansea, as you just know he’s going to score against us in the away fixture coming up end of January.

To be fair, he was pretty crap in the limited minutes he was given for us.

Glad to see he's doing really well and appears to be (or was before he was recalled) one of the best players in the league. Hope he steps up at Swansea.

9 goals, 7 assists, 4 MotM from 19 starts + 6 sub. Impressive from the lad. Plymouth will miss him.

Glad to see Whittaker doing well, but I would honestly put it down to the level we're playing at and his ability to be competitive at it. I don't think Swansea see him as a long-term option, but the loan spell has probably increased his value to a point where they can turn a profit.

Whittaker should be seen as a great example to other Championship clubs who could use League One as a platform for players they want to sell, because it's a top heavy division. A flat-track bully is going to increase their value no end. You look at the likes of Tyler Walker, Daniel Jebbison, Adam Idah, George Hirst, Liam Cullen, Tyrhys Dolan, Josh Tymon & Joe Rankin-Costello and all of them are on the fringes of Championship teams struggling for minutes, yet they get a loan move to League One put on a show against some really bad teams and their value rockets up. Premier League teams have started doing it with Championship clubs, with great results.

I'd imagine Whittaker now joins Ipswich for £2m plus, Swansea turn a profit on a player that's really struggled to do much of anything with them - and in the Championship in general.

They've been shelling out for 3 years now.  Big fees for league 1 and big wages as well.  Lets not forget we we had 3 players on trial who choose to join them instead of signing with Derby in the championship.

Let's hope our pals at the EFL are keeping an eye on them or will we be dealt another shafting like we were when QPR went up with an enormous wage bill.

I'll stick my neck out here, and suggest all Morgan needed here was time to adjust to the next level.

He took his time to get going at reserve level, then rocketed forward.

Instead he found himself under the tutelage of rookie boss Wayne Rooney.

The night he subbed him on and off killed any confidence and momentum Whittaker had built up.

500k was a fair amount though, given what he'd achieved so far, and the dire financial situation we found ourselves in at the time.

I reckon he'll have a better career than Osula though, and 50/50 with Dobbin.
