Bumping this as I just read that he's out injured until after the world cup with an unspecified "knock" picked up in training.

Is that some football euphemism for getting the poo kicked out of you by a disgruntled squad mate?

Sad for him, and Wales, if he's going to miss out. Up there now with George Best, George Weah and Roy McFarland as greatest players never to have appeared in a World Cup.

Bet he’s gutted he didn’t sign for Sheff Utd. As usual Rangers little Champions League dream has turned in to a nightmare….but he has got away games in front of two man and a dog at the likes of Livingstone, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren to look forward to ????????

Bit sniffy isn't it? Would you rather they all supported Liverpool and Chelsea rather than their local team?

Rob Page was hardly a saint on the pitch.

He was a centre half .  I wouldn't expect anyone to be a saint on the pitch but if your getting a red card do it in the last minute when you're winning and some ones clean on goal.   Not stamp on some ones foot in a relegation six pointer with 3 winnable games to follow because you didn't get a free kick.  Sent off in our last chance saloon QPR game as well.

Lawrence stopped playing for the U21s in 2014. Page was with the U21s from 2017 to 2019.

Sometimes a manager just doesn't like certain players for whatever reason

Agreed - could be his work-rate over the 90 minutes (improved a lot in his last season with us, but has never been great) and if you add the injury problems, he's hardly likely to manage a big effort. So then it's a question of whether he's worth being the gifted wildcard option off the bench, in a squad of 26 but already carrying the injured Joe Allen... on balance, I can definitely see why Page isn't taking him.

Page has given Lawrence 3 caps since he became manager in 2020 (28 games in that time). This isn't a case of seeing a player as an injury/fitness risk during a 3 or 4 game tournament (for them). He just doesn't like him. Look at the other players he prefers:
   - Mark Harris: best season in front of goal was 4 goals last season
   - Dan James: best season in front of goal was 5 in 20/21
   - Sorba Thomas: best season was 5 for Boreham Wood in 19/20, only ever scored 3 goals in professional football
Others not in the WC squad, but given opportunities include:
   - Rabbi Matondo: Can't get in the Rangers team when Lawrence is available.
   - Tyler Roberts: career best of 5 goals in a season (for Walsall in 17/18), and only 3 goals in the last 3 seasons

Lawrence has played fewer than 36 games in a season only once since he joined Blackburn on loan in 2015, so not as much of an injury risk as you may think. His work rate in previous seasons was also vastly under rated by the majority.
