"Apart from Declan Rice we've got no number 6's apart from Kalvin Phillips"

Are we ignoring Angel Gomes who was solid for Lille last season? Oh sorry, I forgot he doesn't pick players abroad unless it's a last resort. That is what it feels like with Tomori. Southgate's pal Dier doesn't get in the Spurs squad, Coady and Stones are injured. Oh no, I have to pick one of best Serie A centre backs, what do you mean they don't play Premier League football?

It stinks.

As Henderson plays for Al-Ettifaq fc and it being in Dammam on the Saudi coast...it is the last resort 😁

As for Block Head there's loyalty and stupid loyalty...the FA do like a soft touch in Southgate 👍

Who is Southgate going to select if he doesn't pick Maguire or Phillips?

Phillips is still England's 2nd best out and out holding midfield behind Rice and we don't need more creative players,  Maguire is alright for England, very good from setpieces and has experience at international level. We haven't got much of quality at centre back.

Personally would start Tomori and Dunk as first choice vs Ukraine because whoever we play in defence we should win anyway they are all Premier league quality players and of we don't try players now then when can they get a chance. Bellingham and our attack are so good we'd be alright in qualifying with a Derby defence.

Henderson getting picked is a bit of a surprise. Didn't think he'd fit in with the ethos of the team.

He made it clear in his recent Talksport interview that Henderson would still be considered for selection. I lost a lot of respect for him in that interview - it came across like he'd be very interested in a job in Saudi after his England tenure is over.

Maguire is such an old carthorse

Who has played 23 minutes of football so far this season.

Not sure what message that sends out to the other players, Maguire had the chance to move and play regular football, instead chose to sit on the United bench in the hope of getting a game or two.

He's now starting for England. Basically one of the first names on the team sheet then regardless of form.

Just want to see team picked with in form players, if they are at Bournemouth or Man City couldn't care, need to be in form and playing well that's all.

Same old faces and then the hypocrisy when others are left out

Southgate has made this rod for his own back. Without Maguire, he would be forced to play a very inexperienced pairing in the centre of defence. But there's little experience there because he has picked Stones and Maguire far too much.

Was probably a game for Maguire tbf because Ukraine were not that incentive and quite a few of their attacks seemed to be spooned crosses.

Even so he doesn't inspire much confidence.

Dion Dublin losing enthusiasm on the channel 4 commentary, babbling about "next levels" and "wanting to see more".

Perhaps he forgot where he was and was reading his"homes under the hammer" script.....
