If macguires powers are waning, then isn’t now a good time to start phasing in someone new? Is Southgate just going to play the same players until they turn to dust, or is he going to ever phase any out and get some new favourites?

Wait, what? Maguire had powers.....? 🤣

Beckham had unveiled his Mohican haircut before the game - there was a lad in the East stand concourse who wanted to look like him so has sellotaped a black woolly sock to his head - great memories....

David Lacey in the Guardian wrote that the Mexico team at Pride Park would struggle to give Derby County a game.

I remember all the Mexican players being close around Beckham near the final (or half time?) whistle to get his shirt 🤣

it’s odd because Mexico are hardly minnows, WC last 16 seems about their level

I think Gareth needs to be very careful against the mighty Malta.

I reckon he needs to stick with 2dms with some more cms just in case. And find room for big Harry Maguire.........it is Malta after all

Oh, he has........

Except, of course, there are not 2 defensive midfielders playing

Yeah ok.

He's just been subbed off for that well known playmaker Tyrone mings but whatever.

He replaced Shaw

Getting a bit bored with the constant Southgate bashing. This is where social media has got us, if a manager picks a different side to some herbert who works in Tesco he's a terrible manager.

He's not terrible. But he's a bit limited and shown before that in pressure situations he has lacked imagination.

The England infrastructure has been improving for years so he does have far superior resources. Expectations are therefore higher.

The use of Trent Alexander -Arnold has been both imaginative and tonight successful -if perhaps borrowed from pep guardiola using stones.

It borrowed from Klopp using, er, Alexander-Arnold in a midfield role
