Liverpool v Derby (A) Matchday Thread

To take a team that's been assembled from loans and frees then to draw 0-0 at Anfield then lose on penalties shows we won the moral high ground.

I saw the pens as they showed them live on Sky Sports, They missed 2 we missed 3 bin dippers go through, What I'm hoping for is this collective team now pushes on, This should be a huge confidence booster for Saturday, With a following of 6500 it'll be akin to a home match.

I hope they make a film about our supporters, Around England in 30 days, Morecambe, Torquay, Liverpool, MK Dons, Portsmouth, Newport(possible altho Wales)

Well done to one and all Nbc Thank You GIF by America's Got Talent

Fozzie was at his best according to Warne again. Hourihane has won us games but Dobbin had the chance to do something & fluffed it again.

Got back at 1 ish, just watched highlights from Rams TV........the pen saves from Fozzy and Dobbin were very, very good to be fair

I can see why some Liverpool fans may be a little salty. I was stood at the back of the terrace to the right of the goal looking at the pitch. Somewhere to my right, a few of our “fans” were singing “always the victims…” and “it should have been more”. The inference was obvious to me. Embarrassing and totally out of order. Hope the stay away because the vast vast majority were excellent.

Well it was a good night, the players worked incredibly hard and gave every ounce of effort.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I was a little frustrated at times during the game as when we had the very occasional chance to really have a go at them we backed off and off. Their back line down the flanks was susceptible but when we had a chance to cross there were no bodies in the box or supporting. Understandable for sure, but a little frustrating. Maybe I'm still not used to us being just an average L1 side but, rightly or wrongly, I wanted us to have more of a go at times (not many times, we barely had the ball, but when we did we wasted it constantly - the few moves we did try and play we looked good).

That's not a criticism though. We looked like we set out from minute one for a 0-0 and great credit to the lads for their effort and Wildsmith's outstanding goalkeeping for getting there. He really is becoming a stand out player this season, considering when he came to us he was Sheff Wed's third choice goalie. The last 25, when Klopp bought on the senior players, we did superbly to hold them off.

The risk when you go away is always who you're next to; we got a bunch of late 20/early 30 lads who's language was not for the faint hearted and who for 90 minutes screamed "god save the king", stuff about the IRA and Enguuuurrrllaaannnd, focusing more on the home fans than the game half the time. Honestly.

Liverpool crowd very quiet, understandably for a game like this when there will be plenty of people who don't normally go and the opposition. Never really got that wow factor when inside, despite it being one of the most historic/iconic grounds in the world. First real noise came at penalties.

In all the team can be proud of their efforts. It was a decent evening out and the first time I'd been to Anfield since the early 90s. But it won't be the most memorable game this season I imagine.

Bad headache this morning, I enjoyed my trip to Liverpool again after many years. We played in a decent organised manner without overly testing them and I thought they didn’t particularly test us either which is credit to what youngsters we have left and the collection of freebies we have assembled. Penalties well at least our players stepped up to take them and at least got them on target but having seen two not go in for Liverpool we should be in the hat for the next round.

credit to all the Rams fans there with me and little credit to the Liverpool ones who were as quiet as a mouse - it must be boring expecting to win every week

Just got back in due to horrendous roadworks on the m6.

What a great night, the boys battled like troopers and did us proud.

And our crowd was magnificent from beginning to end.

It's what football is about.

I got back just after 2. What really annoyed me about those roadworks is you had the slip road shut. then you had 5 lanes merging into 1 lane for the roadworks only to find the lanes coned of for absolutely no reason. there wasn't any work going on. So tempting to go the other side of the cones.

Aside from that enjoyed the game and think both fans and players gave a good account of themselves.

I know mate, what was the point of the roadworks at all,not even any staff or vehicles present to do any work!

Anyway,as you say,superb night out!

A Liverpool fan, 2022, bless :

"That's why I love the Champions League. Proper fans who just support their own team rather than thinking they're having proper funny bantz for 90 minutes. Fans of other UK teams are the worst of the worst, and the lower down you go, the worse it gets." ?

Tbh I tend to agree. I love some to and fro between supporters but some fans when we go away, and we were next to some again last night, seem more intent on just abusing the home fans than they are of supporting their team. I'm in the south stand and cringe when we're at home and it's the "you're support is..." or "you're in the shadow of....". Must be my age.

@angieramis that you again?

Yes. Me and Lucy North Stand Ram!

On behalf of all the supporters' groups - and supporters, really. Very emotional. No-one should ever go to a football match and not come home.

Liverpool staff were excellent,  very helpful and appreciative. We got escorted back through all the checkpoints to ensure we got to our seats in plenty of time.

We still had a few braindeads chanting their vitriol at the game, but quickly drowned them out with pro-Derby singing.

Or you could have switched Google maps on and went around Warrington and avoided them all! ?

Indeed, it was a pretty quick run back though I seemed to go over a toll bridge somewhere near Warrington.

I was one of lucky ones who took the diversion over the toll bridge - you've got til midnight to pay online......otherwise they'll sting you £40  (It's something like Merseyflow.co.uk)

It was more the notion that fans of CL clubs don't go in for "bantz" that I found ludicrous.
