Goalie is the weirdest position on the pitch .  Roos had a spell last year where he looked like a 20 million quid goalie for 5 games, West Brom 0-0 springs to mind.  Then he lost his place .  Camp was superb for Derby in his first year and Villa had a bid rejected.  The reaction save to Ellingtons header in a cup game V Wigan is the best save I've seen from any keeper in real time. Free transfer 18 months later.  Forest turned down 4 million for him when he was back in form.  Free transfer 18 months later. Martin Taylor was superb in the 4 months prior to his broken leg but the previous 4 years as understudy to Shilton was mistakes and fumbling under pressure every time.

If a goalie has a purple spell and an offer is good they may well be worth either an extra 3 million or sod all in 6 months. dependent on 3 or 4 games.

Roos was a liability & Camp too short

Best Rams keepers since I’ve been watching Boulton ( would probably be considered too short now ) , Poom and Carson.
Shilts had some great games but was well past his best with us .

Wildsmith has looked very good so far if he keeps up this form for a season or 2 could join that list.

Poom for me.  He had phenomenal physicality and anticipation for low crosses.  Unfortunately, we broke him in the season we got relegated as he needed surgery for carpal tunnel with all those shots he had to save.

I think he's a great keeper.

Beats me why he has to indulge in some of the so called 'game management' though.

He has been booked for time wasting hasn't he? Some of the jinks away at Liverpool was embarrassing. A simple save and then fall to the ground.

Might have been ''embarrassing'' but it contributed to us keeping a clean sheet at Anfield, can't really argue with the methods when that's the outcome...

Cheered on by 5,500 noisy Derby fans. We weren't embarrassed. You have to do what you can to try and win a game of football.

Don't you, Saudi Arabia?

We've been on the receiving end of it a lot over the years. It's about time one of our players did it. It's also pretty funny watching/listening to the opposition fans getting worked up about it too.

Why do flair players have to do rainbow flicks, rabonas, etc... They enjoy doing it. Same thing would apply to Wildsmith wasting time.

Phenomenal header too. ?

Don’t remind me - I had Derby to win 1-0 with Ian Taylor to score first my £5 was turning into rather a lot more £5 s until that happened

I was in the concourse helping someone who had collapsed at the moment he scored so I didn’t even see it ?‍♂️

Probably the person who had £100 on for Poom to score the equaliser in injury time

What fragile finances? The club's debts have been settled, we are operating within a business plan set out by the EFL, which you would assume is to ensure that the club is run on a break even level with a conservative projected income level for the season. This projected income level would be based on attendances well below the unexpected high level which we are actually having. This figure wouldn't have taken into account 3 tv fees for live FA cup games nor would it have anticipated the bumper income from an away game at Liverpool. In addition to that, the club said that at the end of August, there was still room financially and number wise to increase the squad. within that business plan.

I would think that week to week, Derby are making more money than any other club in this division, ATM. Also, if we can't spend any money coming in from transfers on new players, there is no point in selling any players, only to let the money sit in the bank. The one consideration would be where a player could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season and a decent fee could be agreed in January. But, I'd keep someone like Knight to help with the promotion push, rather than let him go for around a million pounds and for someone like Wildsmith, with a longer contract and arguably a more important player, the fee would have to be much, much higher.

To suggest that it's business as usual within a few months of coming out of administration is a bit fanciful. Just my opinion.

Maybe you justify your statement about my post saying business is as usual. The cause of Derby going into administration was a combination of excessive fees paid for players, along with excessive wages on those players with the final loss of income of £20M-£30M due to covid. Those transfer fees are no longer a consideration, except the balance of Bielik's, those excessive wages are no longer a consideration apart from the 5 players who have stayed at the club. Hopefully, there will not be another covid closure of the grounds.

Derby are now working to a very conservative budget, but with the largest income in league 1. These are all reasonable assumptions, based on evidence to hand. It's definitely not business as usual, a normal business coming out of administration wouldn't have a governing body restricting their business practices.

That anticipation and timing against Newport was first class in every respect. Could have been sent off but because he was confident, able and his timing was perfect - he wasn’t, and consequently saved the day. We want Sibbo to have MOTM but Joe was a rock. He’s been excellent and he’s brave too. Really enjoying having a consistent No 1 with some youthful fire in his guts

I'd agree but for his positioning on their goal perhaps?

I love his gamesmanship. He was right in front of me at Torquay away and he was telling us not to throw it back to him too quickly.

Obviously, that went well.

Feel like I’ve missed the bit of the discussion this would be most welcome in; but I’ve always felt goalkeeping coaches have a huge impact.

Fielding and Legzdins started well and degraded under Taylor (and Bywater), Grant went up a level under Steele, Carson was at his best under the highly rated Zuberbuhler.

To make it about Wildsmith, he’s class. Best command of his area I’ve seen and seems *touch wood* a penalty specialist. Solid at everything else.
