Not bothered about tonight really but I think you are absolutely spot on here.

We won 3 out of 23 away games last season. How we were set up Way clearly didn't work yet we just carried on playing the same way.

We can't seem to play against teams that press us. There's a time and a place to playing out from the back.

The 8 or so defeats in a row is what cost us any chance at staying up, watched and we were the better team in about six of them. Just never create enough and always conceded a goal or two. It definitely needed tweaking. And certainly away in league one, we’ll be expected to take the game to a lot of teams

Wasn’t great but not worried, lots of changes in a game played on hottest day on record.

Players learning new patterns of play and getting to know many new teammates.  Manager learning the ropes also.

Wasn’t great!
im guessing your glass half full.
Here’s my opinion, not worth the 15 quid

A change in style for away games could give us an additional 10-12 points over a season, we might not win many, but we’ll stop the never ending away defeats. Most of our goals conceded last season were from us giving the ball away cheaply and leaving our defence exposed.  It had to change - they say a definition of madness is ‘keep doing the same thing, but expecting a different outcome’.
Its also bloody boring football !!

I have half a mind to believe lots of clubs have chosen to take it easy in training whereas we have pushed our lads in the heat of the last two days to make up for the late start to proper preseason. Lots of these lads haven't had the gruelling first week or two of preseason that they should have had and they're having it this week in the blistering heat.

It has been mentioned that lots of players seemed to have long sleeve undershirts on in the training photos. We're not daft, I think we know we're knackered and we're supposed to be.

Further to this, Rosenior refers to exactly this in the post match interview that they worked the players extremely hard in the heat for the bigger picture.

Though he does sound extremely disappointed with the performance which is refreshing in some ways because you get a bit bored of hearing "it's just a run-out, it doesnt matter" from managers in the past

Even though this is only a friendly, some things never change - the pattern and style we play stinks really - we piss about keeping possession at the back, passing side to side in our own half. Then when we eventually pass the ball forward, it’s usually a poor pass, we lose possession and straight away we are under pressure with teams bearing down on us.
Let’s be honest, we can’t keep playing in this way - if hasn’t worked for for us ever, so why do we persist in trying to play this way ?

Bit bemused about some of the reactions to the points being made which are a remnant or hangover more appropriately from last seasons away performances.

There's an adage if it ain't broken don't fix it but what's the equivalent one regards if it's not working?

Would have thought that we've endured the learning curve from all of last season to cement the fact that messing around at the back and a ponderous, negative set up away from home yielded us little in dividends so not sure why we are still persisting?

Anyhows not particularly fussed about the result more our insistency to labour a playing "style" that has borne little dividends in the last season.

How did Diallo look tonight? Didn’t get to watch.
Worth a gamble?

Well if it was based on that game, no you wouldn’t, but it’s not just based on that game.

The one time he beat his man with some good skill, he stopped and let the man get back in position. ?‍♂️

But only Roberts and Wildsmith got any real credit for me and Thompson was unbelievably poor on the oppo end of the spectrum.

6 League games before the transfer window closes 1/9. Any more signings need to be quality over quantity although only the management know the finances available.

That's common knowledge - we can't sign anyone outside of freebies and out of contract players.

So the quality you allude to must fit into the above.

So we lose our first 4 games, what then Tyler ?

Conversely if we win our first 4 games then?

Find the original comment quite weird personally as might as well tell the mods on here to shutdown the matchday threads until the 15th league game as any opinion you do have will be invalid upto that point.

It was a valuable learning experience. Correct. However it wasn't the first one, not by half.

When everyone and their dog could already tell you that what you're doing won't work against certain opposition, and provide multiple examples of it not working..

...what have we learned from the previous valuable learning experiences? Surely all the lessons should already have been learned?

For the record Stevenage have played more games than us. They are way ahead in terms of their preparation. They've won pretty much every friendly they have played, including west brom the other day, and barely shipped a goal.

I am not at all surprised by tonights performance or result, I actually thought we'd get beat today.

Just think we need to give it a bit of time for the team to gel that’s all. We have only lost a friendly……10-15 games in things should look a lot clearer as to how things stand ??
