It’s not patronising it’s how it is. 

we are in a relegation battle and there’s no room for sentiment because he’s from the academy. If he’s good enough he needs to prove it and he wasn’t good enough today.

Sympathy for Whittaker but if he’s going to be good enough he has to play well enough. He didn’t. 

If this is the path we are taking, then he hasn't really been consistent with this. We've had some poor performances that haven't been treated this way!

How you manage players at this stage of their career is important, the most important time for them. More important than a singular match. It's poor management.
