It also didn’t help that Jewell sold the spine of our attack in Oakley & Howard (to Leicester) and brought in Savage & Villa who were inferior,

Jewell just went a bit weird and wanted rid of all of Billy’s players.

Like, what the hell were we doing getting rid of David Jones?!

And then to top it off, of the players he couldn’t get rid of they ended up fighting their way back into the team anyway!

Were any of his replacements better? Hulse sort of replaced Howard and was arguably better but other than that…

I always thought the story went that Earnshaw was a ‘gift’ for Billy because we couldn’t afford Nugent or Kenwyne Jones.

Because there was that weird rumour mid-August that we were going to sell Howard and Earnshaw to afford Nugent.

I don’t know why, but City always sh*t the bed when they go to Anfield. They clearly have better players with half of Liverpool’s first team out injured, but they made so many mistakes in possession.

Harvey Elliott, Gakpo, Diaz, Nunez, Endo, Gomez, Quansah, Bradley, Kelleher… I mean, they are decent players, but they’re not players you should be so terrified of playing against that you end up in panic mode every time you touch the ball.

Is that Klopp’s magic? That even the best teams enter sheer panic mode when they face Liverpool, regardless of whether it’s Liverpool’s B team or in the case of the cup final, their U19s?

Wasn’t too long ago we were playing Villa in a playoff final.

Fast forward a few years and here we are in League One, and there Villa are beating Ajax 4-0 to advance to a European quarter-final while sitting in a Champions League spot for next season.

Good article from The Athletic about Villa's precarious juggling of finances to avoid FFP issues and how that play-off win was so critical.

Absolutely insane end to this Wolverhampton/Coventry game. Coventry lead until the 83rd minute, Wolverhampton scored twice to take the lead by the 88th minute, only for Coventry to score twice in injury time to win.

It was a cracking game.

And they’ve drawn Coventry in the semis. So many things this season have papered over the cracks of a rubbish team. They’ll all point to an fa cup final as an achievement. It’ll end up being Chelsea vs United, the two biggest underachievers this season, that deserve nothing, and one of them will win the fa cup.

not that I wanted Liverpool to win it either, so it’s all a bit meh. Good game though.
